That report is not true, they view him as a guard first

I'd be very happy to think so, since I think Thuney is gone after this year. I was just reporting what I'd read, do you have a source for better info?

Probably true and Froholdt replaces him.

Could you please give us an actual link to the information on how the Patriots view Froholdt?

Personally, I believe they brought him in because he can play BOTH C and G. I think that with the 3 interior back-ups that were on the Roster ALL being UFAs after this season AND Thuney being a UFA, that bringing in Froholdt now is a smart thing. He can get time at all 3 interior positions during his rookie year and then he can step in where he's needed.

In all honesty. The Patriots have been extremely lucky when it's come to injuries to their Centers. The only one of their centers that's had major injury issues was Stork. Beyond that, that's been the one position that's been really steady. Having a servicable back-up there is important.

Even if Froholdt ISN'T viewed as a center and only as a Guard (which I highly doubt), getting him experience now is better than having him thrown to the wolves..

The other one was Koppen in 05 missed the last 6 games and the playoffs. Hochstein wasn't a glaring deficiency but I still have to wonder how much of a difference Koppen would have made vs Denver that year. They were killing it with up the middle pressure and the Pats had no run game between the tackles.

"...Length could be a concern..."

Could be?

P-P-Playoffs?

Arms < 31-1/2" disqualifies Everybody from Ever being on my OL. I wouldn't have drafted Kris Kringle in Any round of this draft, let alone the 4th round.

Our starting interior OL all have 32" arms. I don't know that 3/4" is going to make the difference between success and failure. Froholdt was 5 last season for pressure rate allowed. He had good games against Quinnen Williams and other SEC DTs. I think he's a terrific backup with starter upside. We'll see. :)

Words to live by.

Unless Froholdt can backup at center, I expect him to be inactive, and for us to keep Karras as a Game Day backup at center and guard. If Froholdt is good enough to be our backup center, then we can consider carrying only 8 OL's. Personally, I favor 9. The OL is the key to our offense. We need to be sure that we adequate backups.

On the flip side, thresholds exist for a reason. The important thing to me is to remember that it's just one part of the equation. If Froholdt didn't show the ability to control hands and fight through punches, then sure, I'd worry about his shorter arms. But if he shows on tape (and he does) the skillset to gain advantage over an opponent with longer reach, then it becomes less of an issue. I try to look at tape, measurements, testing, analytics, etc, and consider the weight of each result vis-à-vis the position and play style. Froholdt is solid as a guard/center backup and should compete for starting snaps next year.

captain troll has no clue what he's talking about, he's just *****ing to ***** as per usual. he said the same **** about Thuney & Mason's size. IIRC he even pounded the table about how Bill royally f*cked up drafting Thuney and not LaRaven Clark .

Eh, @captain stone just has stricter thresholds for size and testing. He's consistent, at least, and he'll praise a pick that lines up with his ideas of player need and value (such as Harry). I don't think that's trolling, even though he's on the negative side. He has his preferences, and I have mine; sometimes he's right, and sometimes I'm right. We both get things wrong, too. That's just how life goes . . .

We shall indeed. I still would've chosen Mike Jordan 10 times out of 10 ahead of this guy.

I couldn’t disagree more. Jordan’s too sluggish to excel at the next level I feel. His bench press was disappointing and I have concerns with how he’ll generate leverage at center due to his size. Guard is a different story but I feel like they chose Froholdt because they were looking for a guy who can do both, and potentially excel at either.

Froholdt is an elite pass blocker. Much more talented than the below average Jordan.

In the end, I almost always trust Belichick's (and Scar's) choices, except for DB's picked long before others' rating would have them picked. If Bill and Dante want Froholdt, then he is the better pick.

Belichick makes lots of great picks "early" off his own board. IMO, this has worked extremely well except at DB. Obviously, there have some good DB picks, but most were not "reaches".

I'm a little nervous about Froholdt too, but Jordan seems a poor fit. He's best as a drive blocker, and has maddeningly poor technique given his depth of experience.

I love the Froholdt pick, the guy is extraordinarily mobile and agile for a guy his size and can bench press the house. He is custom fit for guard and mauling defenders in the run game, also he hasn't given up a sack since 2016.

It's tough to question OL picks with Scar and co's success. It's a pretty wild move lol. We're probably hitting on 75%+ on OL picks. Scar is the best mind in the game when it comes to the offensive line.
