We have carried 3 QBs before and since he was a 4th round pick he is a lock to make the roster so no practice squad.

over the GOATLing?Hoyer is a scout team wizard. He adds value there ...more then being QB2. If anything...Stidham replaces Etling.
There is a middle ground. Stidham could be good enough to be a backup and replace Hoyer in 2020, and no be good enough to be Brady's replacement.
FWIW, I see us drafting another quarterback next year and carrying Brady, Stidham and the new quarterback.
Can we afford a 4th string QB is a question that as Patriots fans we should unequivocally answer with YES for eternity. The last time it worked out pretty pretty well.
In all seriousness I haven't seen enough of him to have an educated opinion about him but this whole 1-2rd round talent later in the draft sounds a lot like Mallett. But we'll see. I still see Brady play at a high level for atleast 2 years and I think with how much you have to pay QBs these days, every year on a rookie contract is so important.
See if he can develop into a starter or just draft a true heir in 2 years and let him sit 1 year behind Brady. I truly think that how the Chiefs got Mahomes is the new blueprint for a seamless QB succession.
.maybe he needs to develop the forboro flu and take a red shirt.
I think we will draft the Brady replacement next year.
?
We know Tom Brady has 1 more year. We hope it may be more but right now we know he is playing one more season. It's possible this is the last year. So barring injury (pray not) this gives Stidham (and any other inexperienced QB kept on the roster/PS) one year to develop and show they have what it takes to be a productive NFL QB. I don't know why anyone would think Stidham can't be that QB (not that he will be, but he certainly can be). His 2017 season says he has the raw tools. Let's see what he can do with this pro development time.
We should hope come 2020 training camp we start hearing "hey, this Stidham guy is really showing some things" (a la 2001 training camp).
He certainly can be. But I would rather take 2 shots instead of one on the most important position on the field.
Now we obviously also could wait 1 year and see if Stidham is the man or not but I think the 2020 draft is perfect for us to get a quality QB.
If they're going two QBs Hoyer is toast, I don't think there's any chance he beats out Stidham based on where he was drafted. If they go three he's fine. But I still think Stidham has to worry because I feel like they're gonna take another guy next year regardless.
