What to do with Stidham.

There is a middle ground. Stidham could be good enough to be a backup and replace Hoyer in 2020, and no be good enough to be Brady's replacement.

FWIW, I see us drafting another quarterback next year and carrying Brady, Stidham and the new quarterback.

Pretty much how I see it.

Except for tight end and defensive tackle, this team is stacked!

Can we really afford a roster spot for a fourth string qb?

Hoyer does a great job as a scout team qb preparing the defense for that week’s opponent.

If Stidham shows us anything even remotely worth anything, maybe he needs to develop the forboro flu and take a red shirt.

Can we afford a 4th string QB is a question that as Patriots fans we should unequivocally answer with YES for eternity. The last time it worked out pretty pretty well.

In all seriousness I haven't seen enough of him to have an educated opinion about him but this whole 1-2rd round talent later in the draft sounds a lot like Mallett. But we'll see. I still see Brady play at a high level for atleast 2 years and I think with how much you have to pay QBs these days, every year on a rookie contract is so important.

See if he can develop into a starter or just draft a true heir in 2 years and let him sit 1 year behind Brady. I truly think that how the Chiefs got Mahomes is the new blueprint for a seamless QB succession.

Please repeat 10 times.

There is no such thing as the Foxboro flu.

No, that is ZERO, that is NADA, player not drafted in the 1st round have ever started the season on the patriot IR under Belichick and then contributed, NEVER happened.

?
We know Tom Brady has 1 more year. We hope it may be more but right now we know he is playing one more season. It's possible this is the last year. So barring injury (pray not) this gives Stidham (and any other inexperienced QB kept on the roster/PS) one year to develop and show they have what it takes to be a productive NFL QB. I don't know why anyone would think Stidham can't be that QB (not that he will be, but he certainly can be). His 2017 season says he has the raw tools. Let's see what he can do with this pro development time.

We should hope come 2020 training camp we start hearing "hey, this Stidham guy is really showing some things" (a la 2001 training camp).

He certainly can be. But I would rather take 2 shots instead of one on the most important position on the field.

Now we obviously also could wait 1 year and see if Stidham is the man or not but I think the 2020 draft is perfect for us to get a quality QB.

Fair enough...

If I had to put some percentages on this (barring the I word of course):
65%- Brady, Hoyer, Stidham make 53 man
35%- Brady, Stidham make the 53 man
Whatever percentage is less than 0%- Etling makes the 53 man.

But probably not, ask my wife, I’m usually wrong more than I’m right. According to her at least.

If they're going two QBs Hoyer is toast, I don't think there's any chance he beats out Stidham based on where he was drafted. If they go three he's fine. But I still think Stidham has to worry because I feel like they're gonna take another guy next year regardless.

Etling has an uphill battle to knock a 4th rounder off the roster. They will go Brady/ Hoyer/ Stidham and take their chances on Etling to the PS.

As others have said their is extremely little chance that Stidham isn't on the 53 (really bad legal issue, injury among the exceptions). It'll be Brady, Hoyer and Stidham or Brady and Stidham at the 2019 QB depth chart.
And to reiterate what other have also said on the idea of PS for Stidham: zero chance. Any attempt at putting Stidham on the PS should just be simplified by cutting him. Just eliminate the extra work and hassle, and just accept that another team will gleefully get a free 4th rd draft pick QB as their new 3rd string QB.

Stidham shouldn't worry about a QB drafted next year. The patriots need a future starter and a future backup.

Im not expecting much from Stickman.

Remember when this board wanted a 1st for Rohan Davey? # 3 round QBs Mallet, Oconel and Brisket were god awful terrible. Brisett came on the high recommendation of a Bill Parcells and was the supposed to be a keeper. Diamond in the rough Cassell was supposed to be the guy and then it was Mr Jimmy.

Jimmy wont be be bringing any trophies to Frisco either. His hype is about worn off.
