Jones, Dawson and Jackson

You raise some valid thoughts.

Flowers was super underrated to me in the draft process and I was jumping for joy when we got him in the 4th round because I thought he should have gone top 40/50.

I'm happy we did not have to use Dawson when he got activated in mid November to seasons end because our cornerbacks exceeded expectations and remained healthy, a major key to our SB win.

But I am optimistic that Dawson will help us win games in 2019.

If others think differently, I respect that.
I didn't know much about Flowers when he got drafted but I was super excited about Grissom in the third lol. I thought he was a raw athletic edge guy who would end up a great pass rusher.

Since I followed PFF I am always hoping we draft highly productive players and not raw players with high ceilings. Grissom was another one of those who had a meh college career and had a high ceiling (in theory). Loved the Flowers pick therefore and now Winovich as well.

I would not trade any of them until cutdown day. I rather take a loss on potential draft capital than see a shortage due to training camp injury. How many times have we seen a surplus dissapear due to injury before september

My guess is the coaching staff has been retooling Dawson with added weight and strength to play more safety backing up Chung and Harmon. Crossen should be worth a 7th to someone if we need to cut down, but think we will keep him. Jones has value, but doubt we are giving him away unless a player comes back who can help us this year. Given our projected picks in 2020, his comp pick fits in better in the 2021 pool.

The Patriots will need all their CBs. They're going to be playing a 1-1-9 this year.

Or asks for a raise

Yep. Unless a team comes along and offers up great compensation for him, JCJ's cap dollar to production is relatively sweet (I'm not sending him to Canton but his play was pretty solid). Hard to understate what an advantage it is to have players whose production is notably above their cost.

The Duke better be able show his stuff this camp/preseason. The music will stop in August and there aren't going to be too many available CB chairs to begin with.

Dawson looks like a wasted pick but the team had no idea Jackson would come out of nowhere nor Jason McCourty would be this good.

Wasted? Maybe. We'll see what he does this preseason. But it is shaping up as a wasted pick though it's wasted based on a good happenstance. Hell we would even want it said Gilmore was a wasted signing because _____ and _____ came out of nowhere and are now playing at superstar level. :)

Who exactly would trade for him?
Some team probably would but if his 2019 season is as good or especially a modest improvement on last season? There will be a line forming in April 2020.

Having JJones for another season will benefit us more than trading him for mediocre value at best.

What is everyone talking about. You can’t have too many good CBs. It’s not possible. It’s a throw first league.

Exactly. And injuries will happen.

This is a first world problem.

I hope they keep every last CB from the list. After a HOF QB and an elite pass rush, a shutdown secondary is the next most important piece in today's NFL.

Plus, keeping all these young pieces in place ensures a succession plan at DB. Chung and the McCourtys are nearing the end of their careers, and Gilmore's contract is inching closer and closer to too expensive.

Losing 3-4 DBs of the current roster in 2020 is entirely possible.

Jones is relatively cheap (around 3m, I think) and has a clearly defined role. I certainly hope that he’s not on the trading block.
When BB is in a pinch, it has always been Jones who has been assigned the special plan for tough games since he got to NE. People are not aware of how Hill was kept quiet in the AFC Championship game, they think it was because we doubled him all the time. Watch the game again and you will see Jones running stride for stride with Hill, I had no idea he was that fast.

Jones ran a 4.33 I believe

You simply cannot have too many talented corners on your team these days.

Jordan Richards not exactly a CB but man...what a great feeling to have competent players all across the secondary. These are good days.
