Jones, Dawson, Jackson

Depending on how they perform in camp, we might be willing to trade one of these players. If all look good, Jones "should" be on the trading block. He is in his contract year.

Who exactly would trade for him?

JC Jackson is on the team unless he commits murder.
Attacks a woman or child
Or is injured

Jones is relatively cheap (around 3m, I think) and has a clearly defined role. I certainly hope that he’s not on the trading block.

Keep all. Love me some Jones. Even if he becomes expensive next offseason - still worth it for 2019.

We'll see what happens in TC.

Dawson should be the one traded but I don't see any team trade for a redshirt 2nd round slot CB.

I don't see Jonathan Jones extended, so I'm gonna say Jones gets traded before the season starts.

CB1: Stephon Gilmore
CB2: JC Jackson
CB3/4: Joejuan Williams/Jason McCourty (matchup dependent)
CB5: Duke Dawson
CB6/ST: Keion Crossen

Jones is a lock to stay here (unless a team offers us a lot of value, as always). He'll sign elsewhere for what will be the top nickel contract ever at the time in a year. Let's enjoy watching him on this team 1 more season.

I have high hopes that Jackson can assert himself as a starter. I love JMac but Jackson is young and has a much higher ceiling.

I don't think we'll ever see a meaningful down from Dawson in a Patriots uniform.

Count me in the Jon Jones camp as well. Fast, coachable, and improving every year. Excellent ST player and has looked good defensively in post season.

Besides, he's a Super Hero. ;)

Doesn't "contract year" = "draft pick in 2021" after he leaves as a free agent next year? I'm not sure but think that's how it would work. The Pats seem to covet working that system.

I assumed he put Jackson on the list by mistake.

Hes not going anywhere.

Dawson has limited value right now and the other two are probably keepers, especially JC. Of course it depends on the return.

It would have been interesting to see PatsFans in the alternate reality where the Patriots lose in the opening round of the playoffs and Jones’ seasons ends with an average of 13 snaps over the last 7 games.

He had a bigger role in covering Hill and Cooks, but Hill is presumably out of the picture and they very likely won’t see Cooks this year. What is Jones’ projected role then, back to 13 snaps per game?

I am for keeping em all remember Justin Coleman??I don't remember him being that good here but he was well coveted in FA as the Top Slot CB. Go figure he was more than expendable here. Jones and Jackson are both superior players here.

Jones is the only realistic trade candidate. Young and still relatively cheap for another team not to have to worry about cap ramifications right away. Dawson wouldn’t fetch more than a late rounder as he is completely unproven and wasn’t able to see the active roster. As far as Jackson I believe the team views him as an ascending talent who they would need a substantial return for.

Jones was fantastic in the postseason, at both corner and safety. In my mind, his injury was the biggest personnel loss of the 2017 season.

Jackson isn't going anywhere. I don't see Jones going anywhere. Dawson might just get cut. I don't necessarily see a trade here.

Here are the 8 guys currently on the depth chart at CB:
- Gilmore
- JMac
- Jackson
- Jones
- Dawson
- Williams
- Crossen
- Webster

Assume they're all healthy (big assumption). Gilmore, Jackson, and Williams are locks. JMac is someone I think BB really likes, but he's older and may be on the chopping block, especially if Jones and Williams show really well in camp Jones should stick because of his speed, talent, and versatility. So the most likely cuts/trades (more likely cuts) would be: Dawson, Crossen, and Webster. Not all of them of course. But that's the likely pool. Crossen is a physical freak and I think they like his potential. Obviously they drafted Dawson fairly highly and I think they want to give him a chance.

One thing is for sure: this is as good and as deep a talent pool at corner that I've ever seen on the Pats. When they had Haynes and Clayborn, that was the best CB tandem they've ever had, but this group is both excellent and deep. Very exciting.

NFL Leader in Opponent Passer Rating:

2018: JC Jackson (42.0)
2017: AJ Bouye (31.6)
2016: Xavier Rhodes (47.0)
2015: Josh Norman (54.0)
2014: Vontae Davis (38.8)
2013: Richard Sherman (36.2)

The team will ride JC Jackson out in the hopes they found a rare high level UDFA find.

I could see Jonathan Jones moved as Sciz makes good points on his playing time last season. However, he is probably netting us a 2021 4th-5th round comp pick anyway.

Dawson looks like a wasted pick but the team had no idea Jackson would come out of nowhere nor Jason McCourty would be this good.

I hope you're not talking about JC Jackson. That kid was a revelation last year as a UDFA able to come in and hang with some pretty big name wideouts. He goes nowhere.

Dunno as much about Dawson and Jones is a valuable but expendable depth guy. Jackson goes abso-bloody-lutely nowhere for at least the next few years while he's on his rookie contract.
