Dawson was on IR I believe and brought back. Crosson was available all season. Of course crosson got the nod. I hope Dawson is able to contribute this seasosn.

Lets not ignore that Flowers in 2015 was in the exact same boat.

Injured early, healthy scratch most of the season, exploded onto the scene in 2016. Dawson could do the same.

Great write up. thanks

Jones is a good cornerback on a reasonable 1 year salary and generally these are the players the Patriots hoard. With the youth at the position he would give us the best return if opportunity arises.

He should be psyched, couldn't have landed in a better spot to utilize his skill set. Crowded field, but it'll sort itself out a bit. Even tho I love the pick, he does have fairly high bust potential due to the lack of speed, but think he'll be a good player. He could eventually take away those tight end responsibility away from Chung.

what would that be? 4th round pick?

In 2019-20, if there is one place you need strength and depth : DB. Would love to have more at DL, but I don't think it's a stretch to say that our backfield was instrumental in the 14-16-18 victories.

It was. QB + Coverage win titles.

Good testing doesn't guarantee good football players. We should remember that when going wide-eyed over watching Ken Webster jump 43" even though I think he has a shot. Good football players, however, almost always test well.

That would certainly be disappointing, considering that they talked about watching Dawson for two years and feeling good about the player. They moved up to take him. I wasn't a huge fan of Dawson, but I sure liked him better than Cyrus Jones. He seemed like a ready made slot player who could provide steady, though not spectacular, snaps for the defense. If he turned into another Jonathan Jones I'd be ecstatic.

Part of me wonders if there are some trade moves to come before the season starts. I could see us packaging a DB + picks (we now have 14 with the Hollister trade) in order to get back a TE, DT, or even EDGE player. Perhaps we'll wait until injuries hit in training camp.

Regardless, it's a good problem to have. We suffered through some abysmal secondaries between the championship years. I'll never complain about adding corners.

Great stuff as always.

I keep thinking Solomon Thomas is the guy we make a push for, and 49ers aren’t exactly deep at corner. Add some other stuff to make it work, but that’s my spitball idea.

He ain’t no Gronk

Good to see you around, brother. I've missed your contributions the last couple years.

Big fan of adding Thomas. Buy low, see what happens?

Interesting idea.

Obi's pre-draft measurables

Ht Wt Arm length Hand size 40-yard dash 10-yd split 20-yd split 20-ss 3-cone Vert jump Broad BP
6-4 224 lb 32 1⁄2 in 9 1⁄8 in 4.40 s 1.51 s 2.55 s 4.30 s 7.07 s 44 in 11 ft 9 in 17 reps

In theory, Obi is the better athlete. Time will tell is Joe is the better player.

Yeh, it’s gonna take me awhile to get used to all the new emoji voting landscape.

I know Thomas was a popular player, but especially now with Flowers gone. Thomas has a lot of that skill set, but a terrible scheme fit in San Fran.

Just an idea, but I see that as a player of interest who can play our style right away.

...Can't wait for the regular “defence sucks“ posts in August.;)
Don't worry, they'll be replaced by "the tight ends suck" posts soon enough...

...in a thread that I'll be starting myself, with that exact same title.

@reamer where do you get those RAS cards from?

I think veteran help WILL be forthcoming in the next couple of month. I'm not sure we will be thrilled with the additions, but they will arrive nonetheless.

Don't forget a while back we added 2 DE's in July to ZERO fanfare and together they accounted for 20 sacks that year. Unfortunately they were so impactful I forget their names

DE Mark Anderson
DE Andre Carter (he even set the NEP single game sack record (4))
