Everyone knows we received a second rounder (boooo), right? But who did we select? Follow along:

LB Christian Sam (No. 178 overall, 2018)
RB Damien Harris (No. 87 overall, 2019)
T Yodny Cajuste (No. 101 overall, 2019)
QB Jarrett Stidham (No. 133 overall, 2019)
2020 Fourth-Round Pick From Chicago

The Patriots’ Return For Jimmy Garoppolo Is Too Confusing To Figure Out

Too early to say how it will come out, but do your thoughts change at all?

My thoughts are good. Brady’s still winning titles, and we filled some depth at multiple positions. Plus to this point Jimmy has proven to have a Tony Romo level of durability.

Nope. This is something BB always seems to do. He hates to say 'This is the guy we got for trading player X'. He has shown he's consistently almost certainly going to trade the pick he traded a player away for to get multiple players. That way no one can say clearly or easily what they got for X player.

The Garrapolites will never be:

A) Happy with trading Jimmy to begin with
B) Satisfied with only a 2nd rounder in return as they maintain he had 1st rd value across the league.

Pats have received 0 contribution from anyone involved in the Garropollo trade. Zero, nada, zilch. You're telling me Josh Rosen, who f#cking sucks and never had a game the quality of Jimmy G's vs Arizon or his half vs Miami, gets a second and a fifth and Jimmy G nets only a 2nd.
Sure Bill turned it into 3,458 4th and fifth round picks, but seriously, a player of Jimmy G's caliber (much better than Josh ****ing Rosen) should've netted a player who contributes...can't wait to watch Duke Dawson cover punts..

The price tag on Garoppolo’s 2018-2020 seasons is $86 million, compared to $6 million for Rosen’s 2019-2021.

We might get 3-4 contributors out of this trade.

You are also blatantly ignoring that most of the Rosen value was because of his low caphit. Jimmy had to get paid after his trade which diminished his value greatly.

In terms of production it’s a wash.

None of the drafts picks played and Jimmy got hurt for the year.

Jimmy will be a bust in San Fran.

Wilson is the best QB in that division. Then Goff and then Jimmy. Murray is nipping at his heels this season.

Comparing the return for Rosen vs. the return for Jimmy G is a false equivalency.

In trading for Rosen, Miami got a dirt-cheap contract covering 3 years, and then a 4th year option (5th year overall) that will also be cheap, if he is even a mid-level starter at that point.

Jimmy, recall, was in his last year, and that was a tag number (much higher).

The contract values alone explain a huge disparity in expected return in trade value, a difference that in the end was pretty small.

You also act like both SF and NE knew that Jimmy G was going to step in a rip off 6 wins in a row. You are applying 20-20 hindsight.

No.

This sort of "But they took A and turned it into B" stuff is nonsense. They got a 2nd round pick for JAG. That's it.

You're telling me Josh Rosen, who f#cking sucks and never had a game the quality of Jimmy G's vs Arizon or his half vs Miami, gets a second and a fifth and Jimmy G nets only a 2nd.

The value of the second received for Garappolo was significantly higher than the combined value of the second and fifth received for Rosen. I will leave the obvious contract differences, the foolishness of judging any trade after one season, and everything else in your wacky rant to others to debunk.

I think it’s public knowledge that bill b liked everyone involved in the trade and essentially did jimmy g, shanahan, and lynch a favor. I think it was along the lines of I’ll make this easy for you but pick up the phone when I call. We have already gotten Trent brown from them for almost nothing and he helped us win a Super Bowl. I bet we get a few more players from them in the next few years that benefit us. Bill b is no dummy.

There are other pieces that were included here. Ultimately through multiple trades, the Patriots sent away:
- Jimmy G
- Pick 63 in the 2018 draft
- Pick 97 in the 2019 draft
- Pick 205 in the 2019 draft

And the Patriots received everything mentioned in the first post.
CB Duke Dawson (No. 56 overall, 2018)
LB Christian Sam (No. 178 overall, 2018)
RB Damien Harris (No. 87 overall, 2019)
T Yodny Cajuste (No. 101 overall, 2019)
QB Jarrett Stidham (No. 133 overall, 2019)
2020 Fourth-Round Pick From Chicago

I’d say he’s on extremely thin ice. They can cut ties with him after this season if he stinks it up. Before his injury, he was throwing up some ducks which was talked about by the local media during the offseason. Aside from staying on the damn field, the one other weakness he needs to address is his arm strength.

I am going out on a limb and say RB Damien Harris will be a very good pick for the Patriots. Also OT Yodny Cajust is going to be a Stud Left or Right Tackle he has very good feet and long arms. His breakdowns are due to sloppiness but that can be corrected. I know how I feel about QB Jarrett Stidham icing on the cake. Dawson and Sam are basically Red-shirt Rookies. Thought we gave Jimmy G away I stand corrected.

They got a 2nd round pick for JAG. That's all. They didn't get a bunch of players. They got one pick. What they did with that pick is a separate issue. It's the same with the pick they traded away for Brandin Cooks. They didn't get Brandin Cooks for Ryan Ramczyk. They got him for a first round pick.

I feel better thinking about what the Patriots got, when I realize what the 49ers got.

So far the 49ers gave a 2nd round pick to drop 7 spots in each round in the 2018 draft and lost ~$30m in cap space for a player that hardly played in 2018.

So far Patriots clearly won the trade.
