That is what the speculation is. Last year of Kyle's contract (7.5m) and Vikings' cap is strained (2m left).

Everyone got their TE in the draft. Vikings will unload Kyle and only partner to trade is the Patriots. Possible that the 4th round patriots got from the Bears can be compensation.

Patriots would then be set for 2019 NFL season.

IMO

It would be not bad at all...

There goes their leverage. At this point, just wait for them to cut him.

Given that the Patriots didn’t go after any TE’s I would rather see them use a mid round pick and get some security at the position.

Edit: Now that I see his cap hit I agree that waiting for the release makes more sense. 7.5 million for Rudolph is too much.

The Vikings top 13 players take up $147 million in cap space...

with 2 million left in cap space before having to account for draft choices, it is not a question of if, but rather when they start shedding players. Rudolph has no dead money if release and is a cap savings so it seems he is the obvious choice. Whether the Pats are interested, made an offer that was rejected, or decided " let's wait for him to get cut and swoop in and save a draft choice", who knows???

Rudolph is like a half Gronk what's not to like.

Is $7.5M too much for a starting TE that catching 50 per year for over 500 yards, AND has not missed ANY game is the past four? I suspect that we and the player want at least a 2 year contract. A trade would just get us a 1-year deal. MINN can't afford him. That doesn't mean that he wouldn't be a dependable starter.

2018 64 634
2017 57 532
2016 83 840
2015 49 495

not quite all set

We still need to sign a vet swing OT and a DL or two.

I wouldn’t have a problem with 7.5 when Rudolph was in his prime but it’s more than I’d want to pay him at this point.

Can he block?

C'mon , The guy is an all around TE good at everything. If gronk is a 100 he is an 80. If he is on your team, TE is not a need. The vikings right now have no cap room to even sign their draft picks never mind a practice squad or a contingency fund.

He is 30 this season so an extension does have some risks.

Trade for Rudolph or pick him up after a cut and either way, try to make it a 2-year or 3-year deal. The guy is as dependable as any TE in the league. He's not one of the elite TEs in the game, but he's 2nd tier and stays on the field.

If they like their DL now, fine, otherwise, Bailey is still there, as is Danny Shelton, who didn't suck at all after coming back from his timeout. They've got some cash, the ability to free up some more cash, and are really deep in lots of areas. Team is in very good shape.

Is it really? I thought it was a Larry Fitz look-a-like...
I mean, I’m about 99.7% sure it’s Fitz. But hey; if it is in fact Kyle Rudolph, I’ll settle for him too :D

Lot of Cap Cash, 7.6 million, .. not sure it is a good idea. This looks more like a one season rental...

They can always re-work his deal so he's here 2-3 years instead.

FWIW..

Before June 1st.

They can cut him at any time and it saves them the full $7.6M because there is no guaranteed money and no SB proration. As for the workout bonus, it depends on when that is set to be paid..
