Everyone Seems VERY Happy With This Draft So Far

Quinnen Williams displaying his true Jete-ness without even playing a snap...

Yes... but he's 20 years old... Have you seen him, he's got braces. He looks like a kid/monster man child with immense talent, work ethic character etc. Not sure how any of us would behave if we were 20 years old, and drafted high in the first round of the NFL draft.

What did he do?

so..take this man child and place him on the roster of THE most inept,stupid,short-sighted and morally bankrupt team in NFL history and we should expect a witty, urbane man about town? Look, we just heard this story with the short lived Jete career of Sheldon Richardson....and doubt forget the exact same blubbering over the top praise for Leonard Williams just 2 short years ago.

You're not sure how'd he act on any other roster? Try the Pats..he'd say ZERO about the Jete and continue to keep his mouth shut his entire Pats career. What he just did is WHY the Jets Suck thread exists and has existed despite all attempts to soften, soothe, ameliorate and otherwise undermine the basic AXIOM at play here... that the Jets suck.

Your first mistake is in caring what career pessimists like Deus think.

No mistake I was just having a bit of fun with my overly optimistic approach and how it bit me in the ass especially with the Shelton trade.

I know that Deus knows that I know that I'm too high on player acquisitions and I'm just having fun with that.

there's something horribly wrong with you...I know I've told you this before. Makes me feel oddly at home here ...

To be fair given the odds that any player works out in the NFL each year it is always on the easier/safer side to be pessimistic.

Then you'd have been drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs.

Not enough DV and punching of women. But snorting seems like something Irsay would appreciate.

Patriots clearly put an emphasis on drafting high character players. BB knows the type of personality he wants to coach.

Perhaps someone other than Edelman can return punts this year, at least some of the time.

Day One - I didn’t love the pick at the time. I was okay with it but would have preferred AJ Brown. I’ve come around on it significantly since because I’ll think he’ll replicate some of those tough over the middle yards that Gronk got. Some of you may remember that I was talking about Hakeem Butler doing that in another thread so I’m glad that might happen with Harry (PFF grades him as the best at it in the draft class).

Day Two - Love, love, love this day. It’s right up there with the 2012 day one in terms of positive vibes. Aside from losing my binky McLaurin, day two was almost perfect in terms of adding really good young prospects for the future.

Day Three - Punter aside and the big gap between the punter and our 7th round pick, I really liked this day too. Froholdt is a really good addition (we’re pretty good at drafting fourth round interior OL) and Stidham has the talent to be a possible franchise guy given plenty of time. Cowart is an interesting addition with some upside. Not as fun as day two, but If Froholdt becomes Thuney’s long-term replacement, it’ll have been a success.

UDFA - Two really interesting WRs with quite a lot of upside and a safety with mid-round talent but UDFA athleticism. There’s a definite possibility that at least one of those could be on our final roster in September.

In their post-draft analyses, even NFL.com had nothing but kudos for the Pats.

New England Patriots
Draft picks: Arizona State WR N'Keal Harry (No. 32 overall); Vanderbilt CB Joejuan Williams (No. 45); Michigan DE Chase Winovich (No. 77); Alabama RB Damien Harris (No. 87); West Virginia OT Yodny Cajuste (No. 101); Arkansas OG Hjalte Froholdt (No. 118); Auburn QB Jarrett Stidham (No. 133); Maryland DE Byron Cowart (No. 159); Stanford P Jake Bailey (No. 163); Mississippi CB Ken Webster(No. 252)
Day 1 grade: A
Day 2 grade: A-
Day 3 grade: A-
Overall grade: A
Draft analysis: When Rob Gronkowski had to move outside in the playoffs this past season, it was pretty clear that New England needed a reliable big receiver to win downfield. Harry should meet that need quite well.

The Patriots' interest in Williams was not a well-kept secret -- he had the versatility they needed in the secondary. Giving up a third-round pick to go get him was not a Belichickian-type move, but if they had a first-round grade on him, I won't blame them for making the deal. They found a steal in Winovich in the third round. He's the type of high-motor, versatile lineman who will be a factor early on. Harris is an all-around talent who was worthy of a selection 20 picks earlier than his drafting spot. Cajuste has injury issues and doesn't have the greatest feet, but he could work his way into starting at right tackle.

Froholdt is an athletic and tough-minded Dane who fits the Patriots' Way. Bill Belichick hopes that he can work Stidham into another strong-armed pocket passer; choosing him was a solid value in the fourth round. Cowart and Webster add depth to the defense. Ryan Allen had the 19th-ranked net punting average in the league last year, so his days are numbered with Bailey in the fold.

2019 NFL Draft: Final quick-snap grades for all 32 teams

This draft does seem eerily too good . Nailed the needs. No severe reaches. Solid players.

They get a WR who looks like a big Troy Brown

They pick a CB who IMO will either become the next DMc or Chung.

They get the next Nink

They get an athletic LT who punishes in the run game and hasn't allowed a sack since 1999.

Only quibble is RB but the draft is all about getting good players. Harris is a good player who was not a reach. If Sony and Burk are healthy, great. If not...it's a need. He may be more of a 2020 need but meh.

TE is another quibble but whatever.

I loved the Harris pick. Sony Michel is a really good young RB but he misses time, and Harris gives them a RB who can fill that void as well as split reps with him. I don’t think the change to a power game down the stretch and in the playoffs was temporary, I think Belichick saw the shift to smaller faster defenses coming years ago and slowly transformed his offense to turn them into a team that could exploit that trend. I love the idea of Brady with a great run game, as well a great passing game to his backs, and a really good defense. Like pretty much everyone here I really wanted TE to be addressed, but I trust that Belichick and Caserio didn’t like what was there for them and decided to go with the best prospects instead.

I am not really happy with it....yet. There is a lot of glitz in the draft so far, but I hate to see BB / Josh take a first round WR; they have a terrible track record with high-round WRs. BB just cannot bring himself to draft a WR who is not a Boy Scout, but great WRs do not come in that favor. And who knows what Josh was thinking with his bad picks at Denver.

I have other question marks. Cajuste was wearing two knee braces in a picture I saw of him and holding a DE. I love Joejuan, but is he fast enough? Winovich has the right attitude, but he does not look that strong.

Wow, FredfromDartmouth being really negative, what a shock.

I included Thomas. I am assuming Burkhead will get released. It'll save the team $3 million I think.
I don't know why we are so eager to get rid of Burkhead. When healthy he is the most versatile of the backs and performs well in the big games.

I agree with everything but the take on Allen. I don’t think net distance matters on a team like the Patriots. He’s really not asked to air it out so much as he’s expected to place his punts well from the midfield area.

Kiper gave Pats an A-, and NY Post gave us an A+.
