Seems like a smart move to me. Guy has some upside and they should be able to figure out this year if he or Etling has a chance to be the "next one" or not. Odds are that neither of them will work out but I am in the camp that the Pats need to start taking some chances. If he works out he may have a chance to play in 2021. If not, try again next year.

im greedy. I want the team to be good after Brady retires. if you wait till after he's gone to try and find the next starter. it's too late. I want the next guy to be coached and molded by BB and sit and watch and learn from Brady.

BB failures
Kevin O’connell
Ryan Mallett
Probably Etling
Jacoby Brissett

BB successes
Brady
Jimmy G

He supposedly had a sieve for an offensive line. Maybe he had reason to get gun shy.
The problem is that he was doing that in 2017, too.

Most QB's drafted will be failures as not only do you need to become the starter you need to become at least top 15 at the position to be successful. Not easy to do and there will always be more washouts than stars. Players like Hoyer, and Cassel carved out excellent careers as mostly backups.

Maybe, maybe not. There’s flashes in Stidham that shows that he has the potential to be great. He is learning from the best. This was not the case with O’connell, Cassel
There’s no question that he can make every throw in the book. The potential is definitely there. But he’s got to keep his eyes downfield when he feels the rush. If he can’t do that, then it won’t matter if he can make all those throws.

Those are coachable points though. If he’s going to be great, he needs time to develop.

I wouldn’t say Brissett was a failure. He wasn’t awful, and has been decent in Indy. Talented kid.

You forgot Rohan Davey in your BB failures list.

Ah yes Rohan Davey

Actually was WAY better in 2017, had a 68% completion pct in 2017. One thing you have to like is the low amount of INTs.

Hoyer and Etling are gone if bill decides to keep the 2 qb rule

I like the pick. You spend a 4th round pick on a QB prospect that some feel has 1st round talent. If he busts you didn't lose anything. I'm not sure Jones or Haskins will prove to be any better long term.

Yep, that’s exactly how I see it.

some of those guys were drafted late. different expectations for the late picks. brisset wasn't a fail. he wasn't drafted to be the next guy. and they did ok with matt castle when you consider what they ended up getting for him when they traded him. QB is the most important pos on the team. you have to keep swinging away in hopes of landing the next guy. nothing ventured. nothing gained.

Did that OL suck as well? I know next to nothing about him but have seen videos of the kid hanging tough in the pocket and taking some pretty big hits to deliver the ball.

Stidham threw 5 TD passes in his last college game, The Music City Bowl vs Purdue. Pretty good way to end his college career at Auburn. It’s on YouTube, pretty impressive.

Oh yeah, ran for one also.

You are talking about coachable tendencies.

Good point. And from what I've seen he's accurate and has a quick release, which bodes well. The Pats might really have something here.

I'm sorry...I can't stand his name. Stidham...how can I honestly scream "Go Stids!"?..and when he inevitably throws a stinker, here comes the "Stids hit the skids!" sniping. I think he should change his name...something like Studham or Steadyhand...you know, inspire a little confidence in the fanbase.:confused::confused:

His is drafting a backup who sticks around as a backup a failure?
