Welcome to the Pats JoeJuan Williams

It's nice to be ahead of the curve for a change in the secondary. The ups and downs of watching veterans leave in free agency and then having to respond has been costly at times.

Gilmore, McCourty, Terrance Brooks, Duke Dawson (who has great potential), and Joejuan Williams is a terrific mix of experience, youth and size at CB. The defensive secondary is the best overall position group on the roster.

I'd love to see Belichick grab a big physical safety in the 7th round to develop.

Patriots select PICK 45 JoeJuan Wiliiams, CB, Vanderbilt

Great interview. I hate to say it like this (and please no one take it the wrong way). You can often get a feel of how smart a guy is just by listening to them talk and observing them. Joejuan seems like a sharp kid and that that bodes well for his ability to do the things we want him to do.

My buddy's daughter, Sara is a economics major at Vandy and had a couple of classes with him. He said she said he seemed pretty smart. That's all I got. Better than saying he was a moron I guess. :p

I came into this draft with at least TWO things I knew for sure. First we will NOT draft a WR in the first round, and Second was that we didn't need to draft a CB.

Well to say I was unhappy with the way the first part came out is a bit of an understatement if you read any of my post round one posts. So you can probably guess I'm unhappy with the second round choice......and you'd be WRONG!

I think in one post I wrote that I have never met a tall CB that I didn't like. And Joe Johnson might SEEM like a redundant pick, but he isn't. This team thrives on being a week to week game plan specific team, and there will be a LOT of weeks were a relatively slow, not particularly quick 6 foot FOUR CB will come in handy.

This kid has a lot of Richard Sherman in him, and while there might be some who would have rather had Greedy Williams, I think Johnson will be the better CB in the NFL. I LIKE this pick. It looks like most of the TE's I'm excited about will be there at the end of the round to boot as well as a couple of the edge guys.
I don’t get the idea we had no need at corner. If you look to 2020 had we done nothing and some overachievers came back to earth it may have been our #1 need.

Uh oh. Prisco rated the Pats pick of JJW an A+.

I'm officially taking the year off doing the draft re-cap thing. Too much to do IRL. But it's sort of a fun year if you ax me :D

I think it was a need but not a critical need

Excellent scheme fit, good player and high character person.

They apparently decided between Williams and Harry at 32 and to get both is huge.

I will never dislike another very talented DB on our team because coverage is extremely important in the NFL, just the way it is. Plus JJ is a unique corner/safety, not a player we had on the roster before.

This is the pick I'm most excited about. I think Harry was a terrific choice at a position of extreme need, but Williams is unique. Bigger and quicker than Richard Sherman. He adds the one element the secondary lacked, and this game-planning defense now has the DBs to match up with ANYTHING.

Obviously don’t know him personally, but Williams’ spirit makes him very easy to root for.

Agree. But they might have selected a critical player. And it’s certainly a critical position and possibly of every position on the team the one where outlook and depth can change the fastest and most often.

Looks to have a little Brandon Browner in him

How does Dawson have great potential? He pretty much just sucks like Cyrus Jones.

It’s been said elsewhere, but with Gilmore, this gives us the Browner/Revis secondary again. Joejuan will get the safety help when needed whilst Gilmore locks down the other WR. Or JC plays on the outside whilst Joejuan goes up against a big slot. I love the situational permutations this pick gives us. I’ve been high on this pick for a while for exactly this reason.

Exactly. Browner/Revis redux.

This kid is a physical Seattle/Baltimore type defender. Could probably play some box safety and defend TEs if he tackles well enough too.

you haven't even seen him play and says he sucks. Logic?

He wasn't anything special in college, why would he be in the nfl?
