NFL Draft: Day 2

Usually Goodell will say with the 32 pick the SB Champion (insert team) selects. Didn’t do it this time. Douche.

Screw Volin. He disrespected Da Burkmeister.

Sounds like a slightly better version of Malcolm Mitchell.

Pretty much. The ability to get separation will be his question mark at this level. He wasn't consistent enough at it in college from what I saw (granted, I didn't do nearly the amount of work on the draft this year that I previously have so take that for what it's worth). But he can win jump balls and has very soft hands. In space, he's also tough to bring down. Think Larry Fitzgerald without the natural ability as a strider coming out of college as his ceiling right now.

For day two, if we're going to double-dip at WR, I would like either Renfrow or Isabella. At TE, Sternberger, Smith, Caleb Wilson, and Dax Raymond. There are also still some quality OL on the board.

If the Ben Watson rumours are true I think we focus on defence today with maybe an OT and another WR. I don't expect 5 picks though. Will be 3 or 4.

Drew fricking Lock
It makes Sense take Harry at 32 then at pick 34 trade up for Lock Let's go!

He'll be gone to Denver, who has 2 picks ahead of us. I don't see Bill trading up for Lock.

Ran 4.53 and Josh Gordon 4.52. If they match him against a small CB he will get no separation but will win on the jump ball, if they match him against a S like Chung he will win too. He is a matchup nightmare. Maybe his role won't be a speedster, they can draft a guy like Campbell to open the field.

If you are a combine warrior with 0 production or a 5'9'' 166 lbs you NEED to be a speedster ... All good DT and EDGE guys worth a 1st were gone. It is a good pick.

I think people worry too much about filling out the 53 (and even the 46). I make that mistake sometimes too. In reality what you're looking for is more like 35 players (not counting STs).

The Pats really REALLY need a TE as they have no starting caliber ones. That needs to be handled today. Their backup is rather questionable too, and I would consider a double dip.

As for WR all you need is 3 at any one time. Edelman/Harry should be locked in. For your 3rd Dorsett is your absolute worst case. That isn't ideal but he's plan C. Gordon and Thomas give me confidence to punt on this position for the rest of this draft. They do need another guy for the future though, so if you see value you can jump on it and it will make sense. (My guy to jump on would be Andy Isabella if he falls. He would be a perfect compliment to a guy like Harry long term).

RB/QB are both fine. - If a QB falls then it's worth considering.

OL is questionable. Cannon is getting older and Wynn is unproven. IDK how to feel about their backup situation particularly at OT. They could use a guy there but trading for a vet may be better. The interior is okay but if you see value you may as well jump. Hopefully the 5 starters stay healthy all year and turns into a non-issue.

DL is much more pressing. You really need 7 guys there as it's a rotational heavy position. They have only 5 I feel confident in. Wise/Bennett Butler/Guy/Pennel. Maybe Simon keeps up what he did last year but I don't feel super confident. A pick there on day 2 would really help out with that spot.

LB is fine.

CB is fine, but if one falls so be it.

Ditto for safety, but you need to find an heir either this draft or next. This draft will probably have better value than the next draft so I wouldn't hate a safety pick.

All do respect. Why would you give 2 or 3 picks to draft Lock without the 5th year option? Why don't you use your 32 if he is your guy and pick another WR at 56. Only one WR were drafted before the pick. They have so many holes. If Wynn goes down again who's your backup? We don't have one. Our entire depth behind Thuney and Mason is Karas. We don't have depth behind Chung. We don't have a TE1. We don't have a RDE to pair with Bennett. We lack another body at DL. QB is a need for sure but if Brady goes down season is over, so Lock is not a difference btw a trip to Miami or not.

Goodell was too worried about making sure that Giants fan got his season tickets. He looked pretty enthusiastic for that.

They have 5 picks today. Ideal World IMO they pick:

TE / T / DT / RDE and upgrade iOL or WR3 or S

I did an updated mock and my result was:

TE1: Irv Smith Jr. - I am fine with Sternberger and Knox too. They need to keep drafting at this position
ST: Yodny Cajuste. I am fine with Edwards, Bobby Evans ... I trust Dante.
DE: Charles Omenihu. My binkie.
WR3: Myles Boykin. Another big WR. More of a speedster this time. We are now really big, young and in good shape for the future.
DL: Thrysten Hill. 2 down player with good upside. Another good option still on the board was Khalen Saunders.

Options at 134: Brett Rypien QB / Ryan Bates G / Dru Samia G / S Amani Hooker*(Pick). I would love to trade a future 3rd for a good CB like David Long. If he falls into mid 4th round. I think Crossen is just a ST body.

QB: Tom Brady**
WR1: Julian Edelman**
WR2: N'Keal Harry
WR3: Phillip Dorsett**
RB: Sony Michel / James White / Rex Burkhead
TE1: Irv Smith Jr.
LT: Isaiah Wynn
LG: Joe Thuney**
C: David Andrews
RG: Shaq Mason
RT: Marcus Cannon
TE2: Matt LaCosse
FB: James Develin
ST:Yodny Cajuste
IOL: Ted Karras**

Defense:

LDE: Michael Bennet
DT: Lawrence Guy
DT2: Mike Pennel
DT3: Adam Butler**
DT: Thrysten Hill
RDE: Charles Omenihu
LDE2:John Simon
RDE2: Deatrich Wise Jr.
OLB1: Dont'a Hightower
MLB1: Ja'Whaun Bentley
OLB2: Kyle Van Noy**
MLB2: Elandon Roberts**
CB1: Stephon Gilmore
CB2: J. C. Jackson
CB3: Jason McCourty
SCB: Jonathan Jones**
SCB2/SS: Duke Dawson
FS: Devin McCourty**
SS: Patrick Chung
FS2: Duron Harmon
SS2: Obi Melifonwu**

manman you got me on WR Terry McLaurin: Ohio St WR's at times surprise Mclaurin reminds me of Terry Glenn. Him and Harry would be two really nice picks going forward. I have a man crush on JJ Arcega-Whiteside he reminds me of Harry some similar skill sets.

Edelman
Harry
Dorsett
Watson/ASJ
Michel/White

Wynn
Thuney
Andrews
Mason
Cannon

I’d guess that is the opening day offense. The hope for the team will be one of Gordon returns/Thomas returns to form and a rookie TE could help somewhat down the road.

If Wynn is healthy that is a top 5 OL with enough weapons for the offense to work. It’s not a top end year like 2011/2014 but it definitely isn’t 2006/2013.

I’m cool with anything today as IMO we’re looking at the 2016 offense without Gronk (Edelman, Hogan, Amendola, Mitchell, Bennett) paired with a great defense. My preference would probably be a Khalen Saunders type or the best remaining safety. edit: Zach Allen too. The team needs some rotation snaps at DE.

Phillip Dorsett will have to have the camp of his Life to make this roster he's far from a Lock. Also Bruce Ellington could surprise WR's like him do well here traditionally.
