Welcome To The Pats N'Keal Harry

Probably the worst value pick of the night (although Gruden-Mayock flying circus pushed really hard). Just goes to show how cynical BB can be with the picks: a pick is just a pick and a prospect is just a prospect . we'll see how it goes ..

N’Keal Harry doesn’t think he will go lower than No. 33

Harry was a guest on Arizona Sports 98.7 on Wednesday and said that he hopes to hear his name called during the first round on Thursday night. If not, he says he is “95 percent” sure that the Cardinals will take him with the first pick of the second round on Friday night.

Wonderlics

Wide Receiver
29 JJ. .Arcega-Whiteside
27 Hakeem Butler
26 Miles Boykin
24 N’Keal Harry
21 Marquise Brown
18 A.J. Brown
17 D.K. Metcalf
11 Preston Williams
9 Riley Ridley

He scored quite a bit higher on the Wonderlic than Brown and Metcalf. I’ve said for years their reluctance to draft WRs is the fear they won’t grasp the playbook. Not surprising he a very high score among others players with that athleticism. Better chance - though no certainty - that he’ll catch on.

Does he remind anyone else of Stevie Johnson?

People will like this pick more when they take Isabella tomorrow
Anyone who has a problem with this pick needs to rethink their stance. Harry is a great addition.

Looking at the data, and with what little I saw/heard of this player's college days, this seems to be a pick in the tradition of

Brandon LaFell
Brandon Lloyd
Malcolm Mitchell
Jabar Gaffney
David Givens

But that's what confuses me, because that's an OWR2 kind of player. BB's either seeing something most others are missing, or he went with a higher floor/lower ceiling kind of prospect. And, before people start jumping down my throat, let me note that, as I said several times during the year, I wasn't really following the college game for draft purposes. And I'm not complaining about the pick. I'm just trying to understand BB's logic behind choosing the particular player over other options at the same position.

This kid is bigger and stronger than all of those guys at 225 lbs and more than 25 reps in the bench press If he has Brandon Lloyd or David Givens route running and ball catching skills, he'll be fine. Harry has Cordarelle Patterson speed and elusiveness, but is a better receiver.

Agree with everything, aside from him having the speed and elusiveness of Patterson. That’s not really the case, here, although he improved on his 4.53 combine time during the pro day.

Like you suggested, he’s much more physical than both Lloyd and Givens. He seems to be able to track the ball well, has the athleticism and vertical ability to go up and grab it at the high point, and reportedly (according to him) was able to successfully break down some of the plays thrown at him during his visit.

I don't have any idea about anything about this guy but his size alone gives me a lot of optimism that we finally hit on a WR

Love this guy already:

Very humbling, like him even more after this video seems "grounded"..

Good solid pick, some issues that McDaniels and crew will work on with him help him develop..

Michael Lombardi: 'You're an idiot' to draft D.K. Metcalf over N'Keal Harry

I think what gives N'Keal the advantage over A.J. Brown is the fact that he was very productive for three straight years without having other top-shelf talent lining up with him like Metcalf or Lodge.

That means he responded well and still was able to produce against defenses and defense coordinator specifically designed to stop him while being the primary target for ASU.

People always state he had little separation but defenses rarely slowed him down since he stepped on the field as an 18 year old and became ASU main receiver.

what does MS receiving yards mean?

Wow they really took a receiver. @JayNM hats off to you friend. Didn’t hear about this guy until we picked him, but sounds like quite the talent.

Why do you say that? Belichick saw a strong, physical specimen who tracks the ball and tested well during the plays they asked him to break down.

He’s also a beast in the run game, learned under a former (respectable) NFL head coach, has a great work ethic, and just turned 21 several months ago around the holidays. It also happened to be a great position of need. He was projected to go anywhere from the late 20s to mid 30s. What, exactly, is the issue that you have?

Love this pick, super excited to see this kid play

He reminds me of JJ Schuster, right down to that slow 40 time, which supposedly makes him a “possession receiver.” JJ ran a 4.54 at the combine. Artificial straight line speed, from a drill designed to measure the ability to cover punts, is less than 1% of what a WR needs to be able to do in the NFL. The 40 might be the single worst and most overrated metric there is.

My initial reaction -wtf?

As typical, for some reason I never spent any time looking at his highlights and never considered him for the Pats. I was thinking AJ Brown, Butler, Deebo, Arcega-Whiteside as early draft candidates.

Now I love the pick.
