Official Day 1 2019 Draft Thread

I won't watch this made for TV farce for a second. I'm a Pats fan, so the draft is the worst time of the year for me. Everyone will win but us. Its been that way for close to 20 years. Only the years that Seymour and Mayo were drafted had any interest.

I'll check back Friday evening and see what the first 6 picks have gotten us. I'll even probably pontificate about the pluses and minuses of those picks like I actually know something. I'll take even less interest on Sunday cause I'll be playing poker down at Foxwoods, but that won't stop me from even more poorly informed opinions that could last for a few weeks. ;)
I’ve never seen us trade up for a very high pick so I agree with this statement. If they wanted a high pick they could get it.

Cleveland and JAX have had high draft picks for years and how many Super Bowls? Zilch
How many players on the Super Bowl winners during that time have come out of the draft? What... like... all of them? Super Bowls are won on calendar dates in February but they’re really won in April. This is the talent pool. You hit on those picks and you’re contending.

Right but just because you pick a talented player doesn’t mean they’re going to deliver or bring you a super bowl. They are actually very hard to get to and we are a very spoiled fan base.

Oh snap, I didn't realize the draft was tonight! Guess I'll be working from the couch tonight.

One of those rare occasions where PiP seems worth it.

My first round big board for the Pats

Tier One -

Clelin Ferrell
Noah Fant

Tier Two

Dexter Lawrence
Jeffrey Simmons
Chris Lindstrom

Tier Three

AJ Brown
Joejuan William
Juan Thornhill
Darnell Savage
Irv Smith Jnr

Here is my day 1 board (assuming no crazy falling happens).

#1 Jeffery Simmons - I can't pass on a talent like this.
#2 AJ Brown - I love the WR depth, but if he falls to 32 I think you have to take him.
#3 Clelin Ferrell - I doubt he's there but who knows.
#4 Christian Wilkins - I wouldn't love this pick but it would be okay.
#5A Marquise Brown - I'm hesitant to make this pick. from a value POV he's worth it, but I like the round 2 and 3 WRs A LOT! I go back and forth on this TBH.
#5B TRADE DOWN. - There isn't anyone I like enough to pick at 32 when you consider the larger picture of the board that will be there day 2 and our core needs. There are other players I think as worth this pick in the abstract like Thornhill or Murphy along with certain OL prospects... I just don't know if they are worth it to the Patriots right now.

As will I ... more of a spectator this draft ... just too busy to delve into it all.

Belichick is trading out of round 1 or drafting one of the top 2 RB's is all I am guessing.

The more I think about it the more I like the idea of drafting a RB. And if the board falls the way many are predicting, and Jacobs is there at # 32 then just take him. Getting the best RB in the draft at that point is a steal.

The most important draft for the Pats in.....? Long time.

Several people on Twitter have suggested that Bleacher Reports will post the picks as soon as they find out.

I think BB will trade up to Seattle's #21 and grab TE Noah Fant - if he's still there.

A trade up will be for someone like Dexter Lawrence, not Noah Fant. It's about value. Fant isn't worth that..

Be prepared for a lot of frustration:

From Charles Robinson:
The two teams that I believe have the smallest boards in this draft are the #Patriots and #Saints. Very lean boards, from what I was told. Best I nailed down with the #Saints was less than 150. One guy told me #Patriots board was 75-100 guys.

Maybe don't get upset when the Patriots pick their guy even though you've seen him ranked 2 rounds lower for months now? After all, if the Patriots' board is this lean, they are skipping over a whole bunch of players you like.

I love Big Dex, but we have two starters in place already. On the other hand, Fant replaces our biggest net off-season loss much as Wynn and Michel did last year.

Not surprised at all. Patriots only pick guys that fit their system.

Other than cb, RB is our most loaded position. If we draft one with our first few picks, I'd be shocked, especially with needs at TE, WR, OT and d line.

Seeing that this a draft thread and not a "cowtow to the commish" thread I see nothing wrong with posting a pick once it is known

I believe last year it made this thread interesting.
