Solomon Thomas on the Trade Block for Draft

I'd offer them the 38th pick in the 7th round........conditionally.....if he gets cut, we get a 7th rounder back next year

Any realistic chance we can get him for say a 4th rounder for Thomas and a 5th as a few have speculated? Or will it be a mid rounder for Thomas straight up?
Rather have Gerald McCoy and we have the CAP to make that happen and he has a three years of contract so he is not a rental. They say he is diminishing....who says that? He had 6 sacks from the interior and pushes the pocket. He is a 6 time all pro playing on a miserable Team.

Just in case you might not have know, he has been dealing with the death of his sister to suicide last year. They were very close. He was devistated.
Lot of things flying around in that young mans' head.
A move to New England away from the west coast might be an elixer.
I think he is a quality kid and is still under developed. He needs a winning atmosphere and puposeto move on.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like a very good option IF they don't get one of Tillery, Simmonds or Lawrence. Since I've seen a lot of mocks that have all three going before the Pats pick, so Thomas really could be a rebuild option.

I thought 3 was high for him when he was drafted, but he definitely was a top 12 pick. That kind of talent is rare, and well worth the risk of one of our comp 3's in return for the risk.

A couple of things since I have you on the line. I just saw the BR 7 round mock. They have Andy Isabella going in the FIFTH. Is that a possibility him dropping that low?

Second, what do you think about Anthony Nelson the DE from Iowa? How do you compare him to Allen the BC kid? And finally where is his draft range> . BR had us taking the Polite kid from FL, what do you have on him outside of a really bad combine result.

The key reason why SF was the destination is because of Hoyer. The only way to move JG at that point was to have a backup QB available who they could project to be a fit. The 49ers played ball and released him eating his entire signing bonus which in turn gave us a chance to sign him for peanuts (prorated 400k in 17' + 950k 18').

Go around the league and check how much backup QBs with the same experience as Hoyer are making.

In essence we got the 2nd round pick + saved about 8m in cap space with that trade in the last two years. There is no way BB trades JG away without securing a backup QB first.

And again this is not about being able to carry the team in case of a catastrophic injury to Brady. But not to throw the season if he were to miss a series or 3-4 games.
Agree. I forgot to mention that one.

Here is a corker for you Cousins. Jadeveon Clowney might be in play. The Texans want to do a Frank Clark deal. Clowney is superior and if not for the injuries maybe one of the best DE's in the NFL. "Jadeveon Clowney signed a 1 year, $15,967,200 contract with the Houston Texans, including an average annual salary of $15,967,200. In 2019, Clowney will earn a base salary of $15,967,200, while carrying a cap hit of $15,967,200".
Clark just signed a 5 year $104mm deal....$20mm per.
Clark is not better than Clowney and Clowney is better than the $18mm Flowers just got.
Three years from now, $16mm is cheap money.
Thoughts?

So we deal 32 + 64 and would need to pay him 100+ over 5 with over 60 guaranteed?
Agreed. If they didn’t want to pay Jones and Flowers, why would they give up draft capital and then pay out a ton of money?

I think you're missing the forest for the trees by just shrugging JG off as some "player that missed the entire season" as if injuries aren't a part of the sport and he's just another guy
Today, he is exactly that : just another guy. I liked JG. Maybe he becomes a VG player. Maybe he doesn’t. We don’t know. He beat up on a bunch of losing teams at the end of two seasons ago.

Issabella is not going to be there in the fifth. I had us taking him in the 3rd. Regardless, he was the most productive WR in this years class.

Polite made a huge mistake comming off like a prima donna. He has talent. He can play OLB as well as edge which is why I like him. He should be top twenty pick but his acting like an anal pore cost him some large $. This is why he could fall to us at 32 which is high end or mid 2nd, his low end. A steal in the later Rounds who is "Polite-like" is Brailford from Oklahoma State.

Interesting comparisonof Allen and Nelson. Allen played DE and DT for B.C. He could play the Flowers position here too but is not as fleet of foot. Better on the run. Has long arms which is a good pass rush trait so he could deveolop. He is heavier than Nelson. Mid second round pick is fair.

Nelson is very much like Carl Nassib whom the Browns drafted in the third round in 2016 6'6"-6'7" DE types. He was released by the Browns and seems to have flourished with the Bucs. He had a career high 6.5 sacks but the most impressive thing was his 14 QB hits.

I expect Nelson to be about the same. A 4.82 40 yard dash, but the most BB friendly 6.95 three cone. 23 sacks in his 3 years at Iowa and Bill B is very close to Coach Kirk Ferentz. Would be a great value in Round 4, but Round 3 is the place I feel he will go. he could be the next Kerrigan with some work.

Love to have both in this Draft. IMO Allen would be an upgrade on Butler. Nelson would be an upgrade on Wise.

We don't have to match the Clark deal but Clowney is a better player with no baggage that Clark had (domestic)
$ Flowers money might get Clowney to stay, but we own him for $16mm this year. Might be cheaper to sign a long term with him at a little less.

I love Jones and Flowers but Clowney was the #1 pick in the Draft for a reason. Better than both. Injuries have kept him down. Can be a Hall of Fame type. Been in the League 5 Years. 3 as All pro. 18.5 Sacks the last two years and 42 QB hits!!!!!!
You have to game plan for Clowney. Perhaps not as much for the other two.
Can't see Texans letting him go.....but I am all in if the do.

McCoy is much more realistic.

You can say the same thing about not paying Butler and then hauling out the Brinks truck for Gilmore. It's not that BB won't pay big money, it's WHO he pays that big money to, and what position they play. Just look in the past on who BB paid big money to. All quality guys at key positions.

And while Jones has turned out to be a quality guy who has been reliable AND a high producer. It certainly didn't look that way in that off season before he was shipped out of town.

Clowney will want at least $18M a year. Flowers set that market and all the other top DE’s went over that.

But I could see a McCoy reclamation project if he’s released.

Yep. Or how about letting Talib walk for Revis?

Maybe a conditional 4th. If he is buried in the roster it becomes a 5th

McCoy is good now and not really a reclamation project.

Yeah poor choice of words. What I meant was that he’d be brought back from obscurity playing for that crappy team. He’d elevate his play going to a good team.

Caphit of 7.7 million, folks.

If we get him for cheap it might be on the table but doesn't scream no brainer either.

1/2 that is the SB that is already accounted for

Would rather have Solomon Grundy

Superhuman strength and stamina
Virtually indestructible and with tremendous healing ability
Something like 9 feet tall
Is not going to age out of the league

I'm on board with him at DT. BB will just have to keep him in line.
Sounds like the perfect Gronk replacement too.
