The draft

Isn’t this more a case of you were wrong about the player being ready to play than you were right, and Belichick got lucky?

Sometimes Belichick gets it right. Sometimes he gets it wrong. I'm not saying it's luck, just human fallibility; no one gets it right every time, particularly not when you can't predict for injury or attitude or any myriad of other factors. Belichick does a phenomenal job, and it's sad that he's so underrated around here. I think he's the best overall GM in the game, given his ability to find players in the draft, undrafted free agency, trades, free agency, etc.

Belichick clearly made the right call that Jones was ready to contribute, but as a prospect he was a little shaky for a first rounder. He had poor statistical production (a season high of 4.5 sacks), only ran a 4.87 at the Combine, and his tape looked a little awkward and likely developmental. Jones had some clear traits, and obviously he capitalized fantastically on the coaching he received, but he wasn't a can't-miss prospect. It's not luck that Belichick turned out to be correct, but it also wasn't guaranteed (look at Easley).

Niners couldn't walk into a better situation.
If it pans out like this

It would hurt them. They want Bosa, not Murray. I do suppose the Niners could trade that pick away if Bosa isn’t there and pick up an extra second and move down a few slots, but again, the guy they want is Bosa.

What if Belichick throws everybody off by selecting RB Jacobs or Montgomery forming the best RB group in the NFL supplanted by the greatest QB who ever played. The GOAT who will not have to drop back as much and take hits.

Some valuable RB's will drop in the first round enhancing their selection spot value.

Ok, seriously...I think his love for the Patriots just might be as equivalent to ours...Billy, please make the move...he's LITERALLY asking to be drafted lol...can't make this up..

LOL I kicked myself for replying bc I knew I'd get this type of response.

Where was I was wrong Andy? And where did I say Bill got lucky? You really are useless. Literally manipulate post to have something to do w your life.

I stated he was a player & contributed. Jones was a project though. Just an example of taking a prospect who wasn't an immediate impact player.

Sometimes people hear or read things & immediately jump to something.

I can't imagine any serious football mind not thinking Jones was a project coming out of Cuse. It's not a bad thing. Project doesn't = bad but there was a clear difference between how ready he was compared to HT, DMC etc.

All had growing pains. All made real contributions but none started at the same point in terms of being NFL ready.

I’m not saying it’s right because Belichick did it. I’m saying that when a player is drafted by anyone and someone says “bad pick he isn’t NFL ready” then the player proves he is NFL ready it’s wrong to say the guy drafted someone who wasn’t NFL ready and got lucky when actually the analysis that he went NFL ready was wrong.

I as well kicked myself for walking into the arrogance that surely would follow.

Jones MADE AN IMMEDIATE IMPACT.
The fact that you thought he wouldn’t is where you were wrong. Rather than accept that you believe Belichick picked a player in the first round who wasn’t ready to contribute (which is contrary to basically every first round pick he has ever made other than Easley) and luckily something miraculously changed and he contributed.

They would get more for the pick if Bosa was still on the board than if he wasn’t.
Teams will trade up to 2 to get Bosa. No one is trading up to 2 for Murray.

Trading up using 1st-3rd round picks is a losing proposition. If you get 6 chances in the first three rounds, you're going to hit a few times. I'd rather have two more chances in those rounds than the difference between the guy at 32 and the guy at 21. And moving down only matters if you end up with no one left to take in your top tier and you can pick up additional useful picks (and picks in future drafts; rather have a 4th next year than a 5th this year).

People get enamored with players but it pays to remember that most of the players in the draft won't be any good, and that includes 1st rounders.

Belichick's first round success rate would seem to argue against your position.

Its amazing anyone even bothers w you after all these years.

Btw I had Jones barley missing the 1st when I graded him when people who get paid to do this had him in the 3rd. Turned out to be exactly who I thought he'd be.

Feel free to not. I understand that you have issues being corrected. Stay in your safe place.

People who get paid picked him in the first and he has proven to be worth even more than that. Are you saying if his draft was redone in hindsight he would be an early second? Really?

LOL Yea I'm taking advice from you. Please feel free to compare grades any time you want?

You're a sad individual.

Grades of what?

You didnt answer the question. Is jones a 2nd rounder in a hindsight redraft?

You're a sad individual.
So of course you make it personal. How about you discuss something honestly without responding to a reasonable comment with a personal attack?
