Can he come to Chiefs games in Fixboro?

Just curious, how do you know a direct hit would have caused irreparable damage? And four people agreed with you - how do they know a direct hit would do damage. In the picture I saw it was a pretty big laser spot size, for the fluence to be above the damage threshold it would require quite a bit of energy.
Lasers are very nasty on eyesight. Even a fairly low level laser can actually cut a gash through your retina that never heals again. Anyone working with lasers for a living or even as a hobby knows to wear special eye protection or can expect to have holes in their field of vision that last the rest of their lives.

This idiot was deliberately risking the vision of a guy who relies on vision to make his bread. I don't know how powerful the actual laser pointer in question is buy why the hell would you take that risk with another man's health? It was a ridiculously petty thing to do that maybe wasn't guaranteed to do harm but definitely risked harm to another human being and I'm all for bringing the law crashing down on any idiot who thinks that's OK.

You should know, then, that a laser will impart the same energy at 300 feet as it does at 10 feet as it does at 1000 feet. If the laser was more than 5mw yes there is the possibility that permanent damage to the eye could result.
If the FAA goes crazy anytime some knucklehead points a green laser at a plane/helicopter, I trust they have legit cause for concern. Same rule applies for sporting venues, lasers and athletes' eyes.

Blinding doesn't need to be a permanent thing".

Agreed - faulty assumption - my apologies.

There are actually quite a bit of articles out there that detail the damage it can do to the retina.

It is dependent on the distance - since the fan is in the stands it is unlikely to cause any damage.

Yes the energy drops very little but damage is a function of the energy density, or energy in the laser spot size. As the spot gets bigger with distance the energy density drops - it is a squared function so it drops rapidly. There is little chance eye damage could happen.

As Deus notes any non-damaging event should be banned and yes it is petty and the punishment is justified.

Having said that, leveling unfounded accusations of eye damage is no better than "more likely than not" while ignoring the Ideal Gas Law, and allegations of sex trafficking. Patsfans.com is better than Goodell and the Jupiter police. :)

This too seems pretty clear-cut

I like to judge people by their intentions as much if not more than their actions.

I would be willing to wager a lot of money that the guy didn't know that he couldn't cause damage at that range with a hobby laser. In fact, I'd be willing to bet that he very much thought he could and didn't care or even more likely was hoping it would.

So you probably need to stop dying on this hill, imo.

that the guy didn't know that he couldn't cause damage

He either didn't know that he couldn't cause damage or he knew that he didn't know that he knew that it could cause damage. That's what I think.

More to the point, if he didn't think it would damage Brady's vision there was literally no reason to bring a laser pointer at all.

64-years-old? My little niece is more mature than this guy..and she isn’t even born yet.

That guy doesn't go a day without drinking for 1/2 of it.
fortunately, he probably had a few in him by the 4th quarter....and couldn't aim perfectly to hurt TB12.

Recommended sentence.... required attendance at all Jets games, for life. oh wait, that's probably cruel and inhuman punishment....

Distraction?
Nah man, we all know that Brady's got that laser focus. you're not going to distract him with pretty lights. Potential retina damage on the other hand...

It's certainly unusual, and probably cruel.

Imagine being a 64 year old grown ass man shining ****ing lights at players' faces lmfao

Whoa, guess there goes the Chiefs' draft. What's that? Nothing matters except if you're the Patriots?
