Patriots Sign Demaryius Thomas

I prefer Thomas to Chris Hogan so this is an upgrade. Just surprised by the money. Maybe it’s incentives based. Just hope he can stay healthy and another receiver that will say Brady is the True GOAT. ;)

I think production-wise he will be in the same ballpark as Hogan if he makes the team.

I absolutely cannot wait for this place to into full-blown meltdown mode when BB does something like OT, DT, CB with first three picks :D

As long as Edelman's not pissed about the money, this is a good deal. Obviously, the concern is recovery from the injury, but they've now got at least a legitimate WR corps on paper.

It's better, but I don't see the starting 5-wide receiving corps on this roster yet. Thank goodness the backfield is solid. The needs for a Tackle and at least one more genuine starting receiver are the biggest issues on offense as we get closer to the draft.

Looking at the roster as it stands, it's an interesting group right now with Edelman, Dorcette, Thomas and all the other guys. If just one of those guys in the Ellington, Harris, Berrios, Patterson group could emerge as a trusted#4 WR, Brady could have what he needs. I have zero expectation that Josh Gordon will appear in a Patriots uniform again. They need to bring in a rookie or two as an undrafted FA or as a later round pick to round out this situation. Belichick needs to pull a rabbit out of his hat in the draft like a David Givens type who was a 7th round pick.

The TE situation looks just okay to me. There will never be another Rob Gronkowski, but the more I look at video of Saferian-Jenkins, the more I like what I see, particularly as a receiver. It will be interesting to see how high in the draft they select a TE or if they trade a pick for another proven blocking TE.

Yeah one is an accident the other self imposed by the player but the bottomline is the same. Both could miss time / be gone for the rest of the season from one week to the other.

And the bottomline is the only thing that matters for the coaching staff.

To me a significant difference is that It was unlikely that Gronk could miss the rest of a season because of his activities outside of football, but most likely that is what would lead Gordon to miss the rest of the season.

It wouldn't be totally unreasonable. You don't win Super Bowls without MULTIPLE competent DBs/CBs. OT is a need as is DT

Big body target.

Should help in the red zone especially with Gronk retiring. Those jump ball fade routes to the corner of the end zone that Gronk used to run can now be run by DT.

This has potential to be a great signing.

The achilles is a concern, but I'm more concerned about his drops. IIRC, they were higher than average.

...Don't love Thomas as a player but I don't think anyone can hate the signing given the need at the position.
I can.

This is nothing whatsoever short of a Complete, Total Waste of Everything: time, effort, money and precious salary cap resources. If I wanted to sign a 30-year-old vet, then I would've taken a cheap chance on Pierre Garcon or Michael Crabtree instead of this slow, soft, expensive, broken-down, useless old pile of Donkey stank.

Another brain-dead move from the FO, who obviously thought it better to give Skippy his pet than to try to improve the team and maintain salary integrity inside the locker room.

I guess this is all they could find at the junkyard? LOL

yeah there is nothing out there. Which is why we will draft a WR in the 1st round for the first time in the BB era!

1st half - Gordon
coming back from PUP - Thomas

The question isn’t whether Gordon returns it is how long will it be before he slips up and gets suspended again. They may get some production out of him but they will never be able to count on him.

I'd love to be wrong, but this really has a Reggie Wayne signing feel to it.

Demaryius Thomas sneaky good signing if healthy he's at-least a 800yds Guy. Thomas and Gordon is a sick tandem on the outsides with a couple of Rookies in the wings.

Bargain hunting Bill!
