Off comments from some in the PF stratosphere. DT is 30(?) but he's probably done? Since when is 30 beyond NFL level healing? 2018 numbers that are pretty good but he's camp fodder headed for retirement?

If his injury just won't let him get back then PFS is right, fair enough. Otherwise DT would seem a good signing that has a solid chance to. relatively, thrive here. This guy has some solid earning potential left and he's on that one year program (heavily incentive laden) that suggests he's looking for another contract splash and/or a prime shot at some glory. Either way it suggests that most important underlying motivation (a transient but notably underrated quality).
He may have earned plenty so far but a divorce, a bad investment and one winter spent with a stripper named Summer could wipe a lot of that out. He's potentially got 15m gross earning left in his NFL career. While some pass that up that would be the exception not the rule.

Does he say Omaha! while bumbling his way to an unearned title, and then walk off into the sunset with a sellout Budweiser plug?

No, he just looks like a kid at a local high school would do better, exactly like Peyton did that last season in a Denver.

Excited, disappointed, underwhelmed, overwhelmed, hopeful? We got it all in this thread.

Personally, I’m ok with it, just like I was ok with Chad Johnson. Although he didn’t work out as we had hoped, You kick the tires and see what you got while crossing your fingers for something better than expected.

Why not? Most predictable move this offseason.

Not upset, if he makes it back it's a steal. If he fizzles out, we didn't miss out by trying. When he had a QB he was great, he has a QB again.

Signing both Demaryius Thomas and Seferian-Jenkins is, unfortunately, an indication of just how bad the situation at WR and TE is for the Pats. If either or both of them can stay on the field and live up to their full potential, It is a great move. At least the contracts are short, low risk and not too costly.

If Thomas survives camp, I would expect no further outside veteran signings to the WR corps -- although Josh Gordon could be a wildcard. So let's hope a promising rookie surfaces.

Gordon is on the shadow roster for sure

Gordon is on the shadow roster for sure
We've heard that Gordon is done forever. We've heard Gordon could be cleared to go by TC. We've heard everything in between.

So, what's the truth here. I HAVE to believe that the Pats, at least. have an idea of what's going on in that warped evil mind of the commissioner. I wonder why some intrepid reporter hasn't wrangled some more definitive info on the subject. Though looking at the manner the Pats have run their WR off season, I get the feeling we are going to see Gordon's return sooner rather than later....but that's just a feeling based on nothing....so lets run with it. ;)

I'm betting when the Miguel gets the info on this contract, the signing bonus will be under a Million and only 2 will be guaranteed and he will have make the team before he get that.

There has been a LOT of negativity for a guy who has been an All Pro 5 or 6 times in his career. We have called him for being "soft", but that was our job as being Pats fans, and him being the enemy. He's had some big games too.

But here's the thing. It's April and we still have to sign about 20 more guys to get to 90. DT is just one. Expectations, if he makes the 53 man roster, would be 50-60 catches and 600-800 yards. He's not going to be an all pro WR for the Pats (who ever is) He doesn't have to be. If he's as good as Chris Hogan in his best year, this will be a steal. If he's as good as Chris Hogan in his worst year, it will just an OK signing. If he retires in TC, so what. At 6'3 and 229, he might be the guy who fill move TE role.

I don't see a single downside for this trade.

Coming off an Achilles in week 16 - he won’t be seeing the practice field any time soon.

Fortunately we are more than 3 months away from actual practices. So “soon” doesn’t matter. If he starts on PUP and can be activated early within the season it is still a pretty good timeline and I am sure the contract details and guarantees will reflect that.

And in the end the only relevant way to judge the move is my the financial risk attached. As long as he is not on the field there is not even opportunity cost.

I see that you’ve been reading my blog.

Add in 2-3 mid-to-high round draft picks at those positions and the situation looks much better. In the meantime, Belichick seems to be fine with making the usual frugal depth moves for veterans. There’s probably a decent chance that one of these two guys isn’t on the week one roster.

With Gronk and Allen gone, and with the state of the WRs, I wonder if the Patriots have given any thought to the idea of gambling heavy on TE/WR in the draft, letting the draftees fight it out with the veterans, and deciding just how heavy they'll go with WR v. TE based upon who shows out during the offseason. It's not as if they can't just dig into previous year's plays to find plenty of plays with 4 WR sets, after all.

It would make the offseason a lot more interesting to follow.

I am with you and i hope it will happen

With or without him imho is now a huge difference...

I hope to see Josh back really a.s.a.p.

Love this move. Hope he's healthy by the playoffs, can use a few games before that to warm up.
