They must really be desperate. I seriously doubt he will make the team, and I hope he’s getting vet minimum

He’s getting $6M. And this doesn’t mean that a WR in the draft is no longer a possibility.

The contract number by rapsheet seems off.

Definitely with you on Tate. With Hogan the interesting thing was that the team was seemingly really done with him. Hell, Dorsett got a better deal here than Hogan got with the Panthers.

More about Thomas-Tate.

Thomas (31) is nine months older than Tate. Based on all objective evidence, he has been a better (if not much better) receiver throughout his career and was having a similar year in 2018 before his injury. He is also 6’3”, 229, as opposed to Tate who is 5’10”, 197. Thomas is a bigger target and may help a lot in the red zone especially with Gronk gone.

Tate got $23M guaranteed over four years. I’ll be surprised if Thomas got more than $3M guaranteed and likely less than that. Thomas may wind up being washed up, time will tell, but this is one MASSIVE difference in the high risk for Tate and the low risk for Thomas, while I think the upside is similar.

Not excited.
I will be less so if the Pats lose one of their 2020 3rd round comp pick with this signing.

I hope we give Edelman a pay bump. Don’t want to disrupt locker room economics. Especially for Deymaryious Thomas.

I would expect the team to discuss an extension with Edelman. After all, we have zero WR's signed for 2020.

#11 is the only receiver I trust. And despite an amazing SB (and career) he is in his 30s and has recently missed an entire year. That isn’t to say « I’m worried about JE », but if that is the sure thing....

In fact, only Edelman and Dorsett are, IMO, locks for the roster.

So, I’m looking for trades and picks to supplement the squad. Even if they draft one of the top end TEs and go even more running back centric, I see moves coming draft week.

Don't sleep on Honey Nut Berrios

If I recall, Suggs came back from an Achilles in 6 months, but I think he used deer antler spray he got from Ray Lewis killed someone....

Ray Lewis is a deeply spiritual man.

He was released by the Texans, thus he’s not a factor in calculating comp picks.

$6m, particularly an incentive laden $6m, for a top 2 WR, is not a lot of money.
That’s fair, as long as there’s not a ton guaranteed in case it doesn’t work out.

If he can regain his form and gordon can stay healthy...on paper the wr are decent.

Has to be better than Hogan right?

Doesn't mean we still dont draft a wide receiver and tight end.

Very puzzling move. Doesn’t the car accident play into this ? Is it possible he gets suspended for that ? And then bring up the fact the guy tore his Achilles at age 31, a guy who already lost his explosiveness. Also looks soft to me when I watched him. Didn’t even want him when there was chatter at the trade deadline. So very puzzled by this move. Should’ve signed Yeldon. I bet he winds up with more catches than Thomas, and he’s a RB.

That being said, best case scenario, maybe he morphs into a de facto pass catching TE type weapon. Speed is no longer a tool of his, so let him run some Gronk like routes. Honestly though, I’d be shocked if he plays 8 games.

End of the day, I trust Belichick. He must have a vision of how Thomas can help the team, but the questions are when (injury), and if (possible suspension ?).

Haven’t talked to Bill yet, but I’m going on a limb and saying if DT is healthy they will play him at wide receiver. **gasp**

Great, wanted this to happen. He has a bunch of hurdles to jump over to even have any impact here though.

Is the team jumping hurdles at training camp this year? :D

That really sucks because he’s recovering from an Achilles injury. My money is on him tearing it again after excessive hurdle jumping during training camp. They really need to do something about this.

With his age, size and injury history...I see him similar to LaFell. Not saying LaFell was similar in talent at all...but taking age / injuries into account: 2019 Thomas might equal 2014 LaFell if we are very lucky.
