...Is Russell Wilson on his way out of Seattle?

Clearly not everyone shares your negative opinion of Breitbart. Your political perspective is evidently in play here and this forum is certainly not the place for that.

Yes, his post was obviously politically based, and stupid. It is what it is. Time to move on.

$35m per is crazy money, even with the rising cap. But, crazy money is what QBs are getting right now. If Brady is willing to take sane money on an extension, that'll give him a relative advantage in his final couple (or say, 20?) of seasons.

The explosion of QB pay has been spectacular since 2016. The low 20's was elite QB money before that and now 3 years later it is clear the low 30's is where the so called elite QB's will START the negotiations at. That's about a 33% increase in just 3 years.

And don't forget the dribble down effect. Now that QB's will be getting $35MM/yr, do you think over rated, diva, "elite "WR's are going to be happy making just $15MM??????

I think we just hit a turning point in roster building. Like society (since this turned into a semi-political thread ;) ) Future rosters will continue to favor mostly those at the top of the economic ladder, while more and more of the roster will consist of the bottom dwellers (relatively speaking), with an ever shrinking middle class.

BTW- I noticed several posts continuing the myth that Tom has played for less. STOP it. While he never rung the last dollar out of the franchise. For most of the past decade, Brady has been among the top 3 paid QB's in the league. Until 2017 he WAS the top paid over a 5 year period, before Rodgers passed him that year.

That being said it will be very interesting to see what that extension is going to be when it happens.....and it WILL happen, though probably not until well after the draft.

would be nice if you are going to make such a claim that you provide frame of reference and data.

2012-2016? or 2013-2017? for your 5 year reference. regardless, in cash intake it's grossly incorrect

I think it was in 2016 I read where no QB got more money IN HIS POCKET over the past 5 years (I think it was 2o11 or 12 that Brady got a large extension) and that would continue until 2017 when Rodgers would pass him. I remembered it because it wasn't the first time or only time I saw it. I'd love to go back and find it...if I knew how.

BTW- on NFL live, when they were discussing the possibility of using a percentage of the cap as a contract possibility with Wilson's contract they put up a graphic of players who took up the biggest percentage of their team's cap over a period of time. I was surprised to see Brady name in the top 3.

Again, I'm just trying to counter the myth that Brady took SOOO much less to help the team. IIRC when he did that big extention in '11 or 12 he got a signing bonus of over $40MM. It was that upfront money that allowed his cap numbers in later years to be so low. Brady has ALWAYS gotten a ton of money UP FRONT when he extends. I'm not denying that he was always fair with the Krafts and, like I said, never wrung the last dollar or demand to be the highest paid.

But as you know, so many of the contracts you mentioned have a lot of "funny money" in them. Remember Drew had a $100MM contract too. Just sayin'

no worries, was curious what you were looking at /referencing.

i posted both cash intake (real $) and Salary Cap (funny $)....

i'd imagine you would have to look at like 2010-2011 small window to have Brady at the top. Probably also 2006-2008 time frame but not totally sure as I didnt look at those #'s

whenever a thread for other QBs show up and people start questioning said QB, no matter who, only one thing comes to mind:

We're ****ed when TB12 retires

I mean, Rodgers isnt good enough, Wilson is not good enough

Poor future heir, dead even before arrival
It's actually pretty maddening. According to this mb there are no good QB's in the league.

Just goes to show you the majority of fans only watch their team play. Thats the knee-jerk in the gdt, idea that starting QB's cant read a defense & there are no good players in the league.

Wilson was one of the most efficient QB's last year w the 2nd least pass attempts I believe.

He's easily top 10 which means top 5 isnt a stretch at all depending on who you ask.

Still wish I had him higher coming out.

I do not get the connection with Russell Wilson's reported contract and a billionaires gift to rebuild Notre Dame???

There is no connection.

...
I don’t know how Wilson would have fared with KC. I’m sure he would have done just fine, but he isn’t capable of quick decisions in the pocket and then throwing pinpoint lasers all game, which is what Mahomes did for a long time until he started trying to scramble and make Rodgers-Wilson plays as the season waned down and he seemed to embrace difficult plays much like those two.

Our guy can throw pinpoint lasers even when you're blinding him with pinpoint lasers.

Yeah I'm sure if I posted a OccupyDemocrats article about the Cathedral none of you would have said a peep. C'mon. We all know the biased sources out there, there's better ones to use than Breitbart. @ me, fools.

I think you don't watch enough Seahawks games. Wilson has played behind awful OLs most of his career, and with mediocre receivers (as the team spent money on D only). He's also been incredibly consistent, with nearly 4,000 yards/year and a QB rating of just under 100 over seven years. Incredibly consistent...8-3 in the playoffs (more than 7 franchises), one amazing play from 9-2 and two rings. He has a higher winning % than Rodgers. He's missed the playoffs ONCE in 7 years.

I'd take him over any QB in the league not named Brady for the next few years. Mahomes landed in the sweetest position in the NFL last year, with a great receiving TE, a fantastic all-purpose back, and the most explosive WR in the league, a great OL and a head coach who knows how to run an offense. Like Dak Prescott, the guy spent his first year in the spotlight with a clean pocket.

Let's see him going forward before the beatification, okay?

Brees is on the downside. Never liked Rodgers' game. Rivers is meh. Goff is anemic. Wendtz can't stay on the damned field, Luck has never won anything, Rothlesberger's lost the ability to extend and stay healthy...

Other than Brady, the SB winning QBs currently in the league:
Rothlisberger (2) - 37 years old
Eli Manning (2) - 38 years old
Brees (1) - 40 years old
Rodgers (1) - 35 years old
Wilson (1) - 30 years old
Foles (1) - 30 years old
Flacco (1) - 34 years old

So go ahead, name me all these superstar, more deserving QBs.

So you just straw-manned every other QB in the league and now want me to answer your question?

I think he’s gonna stay imo

Career earnings: 217.2 million, fourth in league history, behind Brees and both Mannings.

Russell Wilson Career Game Log vs. Patriots | Pro-Football-Reference.com

Small sample, but arguably the most successful QB ever against BB. High level passer, scrambles to pass rather than run & incredibly durable.

If Wilson continues his feud with Seattle through 2020/2021 (franchise tags) watch out for Bill.
I don't get why Wilson would play if he's tagged. He's going to get paid somewhere, so why not hold out for a trade if he truly wants out? Sure, getting tagged means a massive salary one or two seasons; however, being tagged also means risking a larger sum down the line if he's injured. This problem with the franchise tag is obvious, but worth restating.

I don't see Wilson wanting out of Seattle. Instead, I could see this as a bargaining tactic where he plays hard to get. Most players would get shipped away for these types of games, but Wilson is a special player. If anything this whole standoff suggests, though, is that Wilson is far less invested in the team than many franchise quarterbacks out there who think more about legacy than Wilson seems to be doing.

Late to the news? He did get paid. He's now the highest paid player in the game.

You are right Ken even if some of the fans dont want to hear it because they love this romantic story of how amazingly selfless Brady is even when it comes to contracts.

In reality Brady was clever enough to realize how BB deals with players that keep negotiating for market setting deals even as they get older. He conceded some -- ultimately irrelevant (what are 20m over his career for someone who made as much as Brady) -- money to make sure that he would always end up on the right end of the BB value equation so he could continue doing what he loves in an environment that gives him the best shot at competing every year.

Acknowledging this puzzle piece doesnt mean he is less of a leader or competitor. It just shows that a chance at rings was at a higher priority than a few dozen millions over the length of his career.
