Pats Sign Austin Seferian-Jenkins

Seems like a good "try-out" move that could work out well for both parties.

Bout time we signed a player who's name I recognized !

Just Bill doing his value thing.

I was going to say this same thing. If Hockenson or Fant aren't available, this move guards against that. I still think the Pats draft Jace Sternberger.

Hockensen will not be available at 32. Hell he will not even be available at 20.

I agree about Sternberger. He seems like a good risk/value bet if he can be gotten with one of the two second round picks.

I like the ASJ signing a lot. No risk involved with minimal guarantees. If they can leverage his physique and he responds well to our offense he could be a light-version of Kelce with allegedly solid blocking.

Hopefully this has been reconciled with:

On March 9, 2013, Seferian-Jenkins was cited for driving under the influence in the University District of Seattle.[33] In July 2013, he pleaded guilty to DUI and served a day in jail.[34][35] The football team suspended Seferian-Jenkins for 1 game, the Huskies' 2013 season opener against Boise State.

In addition, Seferian-Jenkins cited for DUI on the morning of Friday, September 23, 2016. He was released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the same day of the incident.

In May 2017, Seferian-Jenkins opened up regarding his struggles with alcohol, and indicated that he had sought help by attending rehab on an outpatient basis.[36]

If there is a run at TEs early which might happen there might not be enough value to take one early. Sternberger at 56 would be a good pick but he might be gone and I really wouldn't like Oliver, Raymond or Knox in the 2nd.

Living in NY, I got to see him a decent amount with the Jets, this is a good signing. Could be a Martellus Bennett type for the Pats, good size, good talent. Still need to draft a long term solution. I would hope that this signing doesn’t prevent them from trying to trade up for Hockenson or Fant if they were thinking about it.

Good move! Can't wait to see how this team shapes up.

What's not to like? A low-risk move that targets a massive hole, allowing for greater draft flexibility. (I'm not a huge fan of this TE draft class.)

The Jags have a history of letting players go after seemingly being not worth a roster spot, then they go onto to have great success elsewhere. That’s probably what will happen here. #becausejaguars

How has O'Shaughnessy been for you? We dropped him after trading for him. The few times we played you he seemed functional as a TE2.

Not sure how to explain this to the children ... they're out for blood on every signing.

2017 highlights when he had 50 receptions ...

Hopefully he can be Dwayne Allen plus*, a RZ contributor and a nice compliment to a early pick draftee.

* the plus being more than a couple of catches a year.

Only Pats fans could look at picking up ASJ for the vet minimum as anything less than a good signing. Damn, we are a spoiled bunch
smdh

Sounds like he could be a decent replacement for Dwayne Allen at the least. We’ll see if he can offer more than that, and if he can stay on the field.

He is definitely not in the league of Allen in terms of blocking. And there also doesnt seem to be a consensus on how well he run blocks:

So we shall see.. Id think of him more as what Kelce is doing for KC. We will know about his blocking about a week into camp.
