Gost is back: Two-year deal

I’m not going to go look up who said that Gostkowski would get paid something comparable to Dan Bailey’s $1 million, but consider yourself shamed.

I might be the culprit. To my credit, I didn’t say Gost would end up signing for only $ 1 million but rather compared him to Bailey who has a similar FG accuracy percentage to make the point that it was a buyer’s market this offseason for kickers.

But, I’ll take my lumps where warranted. I’m really surprised Gost didn’t have to take an even a bigger pay cut to return. It will still be interesting to see how real the numbers are in year two. That’s good work by his agent to not panic and stay unsigned and good fortune that Robbie Gould hasn’t signed his franchise tag bringing the 49ers into the picture late as competition and forcing the Patriots to play their hand.

Dan Bailey could have used Gost’s agent.

Gostkowski, who played both college football and baseball for the University of Memphis, is the most accurate kicker in Patriots history, and, as of the end of the 2018 season, the third-most accurate kicker in NFL history.

And 88.6% just playoffs.

523 consecutive extra points without missing. He hadn't missed since 2006 -- his rookie season -- making 562 of his 563 attempts in his career (regular season and playoffs). Even in the playoffs, the pressure always unfazed Gostkowski, who'd converted on all 60 of his chances. [NFL record]

I figured 4 million a year. Fair deal
I was expecting one year maybe 2.5. Gost did well for himself. Didn’t seem to have much of a market. Maybe Bears had an offer in.

He has missed one field goal total in our last three Super Bowl wins. That's why he has an 88.6% percentage in career playoffs.

This is so disingenous. The deal he got is fair, but fans' nerves about him in big games are warranted. See: the missed FG vs Rams (Super Bowl), the missed XP against Atlanta (Super Bowl), the missed FG against Philly (Super Bowl), and the missed XP against Denver (AFCCG). And I know a make is a make, but holy sh*t that last FG against the Rams was a couple inches from clanking off the goalpost.

That's 4 consecutive years, in each of the biggest games of the season, where Gost missed a kick.

Signing Gost is like taking money out of one account at the bank and then depositing it right back into a different account.

I don' think Gost is given enough credit for his kick-off abilities. Especially games where he precisely left high kicks to land on the 5 yard line and force returns that resulted in great Patriot field position.

He made 5 million last year. I figured a little bump down in pay because of his age. He still has a solid leg. Most likely he brought back an offer to gauge his value and we negotiated from there

Gost is a fine kicker and I’m glad that he’s back, but these numbers aren’t right. Hell, he missed XPs in playoff games in both the 2015 and 2016 seasons, alone.

Glad to see he is back, in the world of the NFL fans will always remember a kickers screw ups rather than their successes..

I do see a someone coming to TC to push him and maybe unseat him..

You quoted facts. How can facts be disingenuous?

The best kickers miss at least 10% of the time. You just choose to only count those and assume the snap and hold is always perfect for him.

The more important statistic is his performance in Pats playoff and Superbowl losses where he is a significant part of the reason for the loss. Unlike AV who actually won games in the clutch, with him you just hope he doesn't miss ty lose the game. It is obvious that BB lkacks confidence in him,

Wrong

If he didn't have confidence in him he wouldn't have just paid him $4m. He would have moved on and not have sent him out to clinch the SB.

He set the all time record for extra points in a row without missing one. He has also missed extra points after that. He has also straightened out bad snaps and/or holds and missed kicks for those reasons, though there is no way of knowing that.

Brady has also had great runs of excellence and blew important games by throwing 4 interceptions

Our 4th and fifth Super bowls weren't important? Because they were part of this streak

"After a streak of 53 straight made postseason kicks (field goals and extra points) from 2012-16.
Stephen Gostkowski not thinking about previous missed playoff kicks

Why wasn't that important?

The above quote was true right up until the AFCCG at the end of 2015.
Pre that game in playoffs Gostkowski was 60/60 XP and 22/23 on FGs
Since then in the playoffs, he's 28/32 on XPs (87.5%) and 17/21 on FGAs....(80.9%)

That being said, I am glad they resigned him. It also gives Gost his best chance to add to his impressive total of postseason points and his chance to overtake AV for overall post season points scored. ( he trails him 238-205)

Not really.Brady has thrown 4 ints in a game only 6 times in his career, none in the playoffs and none in important games late in the season.
1) '01 vs Den week 7
2) '03 week 1 vs Buf (31-0 Lawyer Milloy fallout game)
3) '04 vs Miami week 14 weird 29-28 game ( meaningless game)
4) '05 week 11 vs KC
5) '06 week 8 vs Indy
6) '11 week 11 vs Buf.
