Patriots sign German TE/FB

Getting back to Jakob. When PFT first post this in the afternoon, I googled him and led me to believe he was 6'4 23o ish. Now I read he's 280? what's the truth.

Couple of other points on the international program.

a. Right now he is part of the 90 man TC roster and will participate fully in all team activities prior to TC. The only "free" part in this is if the Pats cut him and add him to the PS. THEN he wouldn't count as one of the 10 guys.

b. And even though we need all the help we can get at TE, I would have rather gotten the guy the Dolphins got. A huge DT from Brazil who looked like he could run a bit.

Jakob has ST experience. That is the most realistic way of making the team for someone like him. Most certainly not this year but if he gets stashed in that free slot and develops a bit he might have a shot at a futures contract.

Either way unless he is totally useless he kinda opens up a PS squad slot. Lets not forget that BB runs the practice squad not entirely as a developmental unit but also wants diverse bodies that work well as a scout team. If Jakob can contribute there this would be a freebie.

In the Rocky GOAT rankings, does Rocky 4 go before or after Rocky I?

EDIT: In no way do I think Rocky 4 is better than Rocky 1. I meant to say Rocky II

I think Rocky 4 is a better movie than Rocky 2. I'm tempted to put Rocky 3 ahead of Rocky 4. They are about equal.

Rocky
Rocky 3
Rocky 4
Rocky 2
Rocky Balboa
Rocky 5

For me it goes:
Rocky >>> 2 > 4 > Rocky Balboa / Rocky 5 > 3

It's been a loooong time since I've seen parts 3 & 5 so I may be biased... Part Five was kinda cheesy, but gritty, blue-collar and stuff. Maybe someone reminds why it sucks so bas?

If he’s anything close to 250lbs I hope they hand him to Scar and give him a year of learning OT see if he can make it there.

I am not a huge fan of him getting the international development spot. I would rather someone who didn’t go the college route and see if we can find an athletic freak. The program has been going a few years now only Efe Obada of the panthers has made a roster. But I like the idea.

Low, low risk, possible reward.. for a "free" roster spot... what is not to like??

Tommy Gunn was awful. Street fight at the end was lame. The Don King character was ok.

3 last? Harsh.

I mean the program has been around for 2 years and is limited to 4 teams every season.

What you get if you go for the athletic freak that has only non CFL experience we saw with Boehringer and the Vikings 2 or 3 years ago. All the athleticism in the world can’t make up for the lack of experience. Especially when we are in the final years of a CBA that doesnt even give enough coaching time for players that go through the standard HS + College pipeline.

Thinking you will find a real difference maker in a program that is so limited is a pipedream. Being practical and getting someone who can maybe help on the scout team and has a longshot as a ST player seems the best investment of resources.

During the swinging '80s I was part of a deployment from MCAS Beaufort SC to NAS (now MCAS) Miramar CA where the Top Gun exercises were held. The movie itself was nothing more than a Tom Cruise ego-trip with very little basis in actual reality. He probably just liked the title and thought it would be cool to play a "hot-shot" ace pilot, and hey of course there just Has to be a hot piece of ass instructor to bag too right? Waste of money (ours, not his).
That likes girls.

I went to the bar where they filmed the piano scenes with Goose. Not much to see. At the time, it was a real dump. Looks like they've embraced their Top Gun heritage.

He's as German as Elon Musk is African-American.

Born in Stuttgart, started to play youth football there in 2007 and then also for the local team the Stuttgart Scorpions. Then moved to the US in 2013 to take a shot at being a pro football player.

Said in interviews that once the football thing is done (not limited to the NFL) he wants to go back home as staying in the US is not something he is interested in.

Not sure what the hell you are on about.

I believe that the remodel has a lot to do with the fact that they had a serious fire there in 2008 that basically gutted the place.
I read that back in '08.

Doesn't sound like a Patriot.

Thee free roster spot is on the practice squad, and not eligible for promotion to the 53. :(

Yeah, we can keep him all summer....and put him on the PS.

If we need to activate him to the active roster out of fear of him being snatched up...we have a GOOD problem.

See my post above.

I meant "free" in the sense of having 91 vs. 90 and 11 vs. 10 on the PS during the season.

You sure about the added spot to the 90 during preseason ?

The way I read it all the extra spot only is for the in-season PS (#11).

Nitpicking, but I'm not sure the Patriots "signed" this guy inasmuch as he was 'assigned' to the team:

Four international players added to rosters ahead of 2019 season

"The AFC East was chosen to receive these players in a random draw." and another NFL.com article says the Bills were assigned their guy.

It doesn't make much difference, but I caught a vibe here that BB had found some sneaky advantage/gem in an unknown German source.
