Patriots sign German TE/FB

I dunna know. I liked 4. A bit high on the cheeseball factor but entertaining. I was a teenager as well when it came out. Maybe I'm being nostalgic.

I still quote Clubber Lang to this day.

I find 2 boring. I wish I didn't but I do.

5 is pathetic.

I think "Rocky Balboa" is decent. Its a good transition to what Rocky in the Creed films is now.

I liked Creed a lot. Creed 2 was ok.
I thoroughly enjoyed Creed. I am not saying I didn't enjoy IV, I did. But my enjoyment doesn't make it any less bad. Bridgete Neilson is terrible. Drago can't even speak. The forced dialogue to make the Soviets scary is ridiculous. With the premier and the rest of the polit bureau looking on. Ugh. But we have this : If I can change, and you can change, maybe we can all change!

That's right, boys and girls, Rocky Balboa ended the cold war.

This signing is the most Patriots thing ever. Guarantee he makes some key plays in a divisional round game or something.

Needs to make 53 to be eligible to play. Otherwise they can keep him without losing a PS spot for the year but without eligibility to play.

Also that international program apparently rotates between divisions each year and the AFCE was selected this year. There was a pseudo proday with like 7 athletes or something and thats the one the Pats chose for essentially free.

Definition of a (camp) body. But am sure BB will be happy about a free PS spot.

Y'know the conspiracy theory right? In the 80s under the Reagan Administration, the CIA and Defense Department dumped close to a billion dollars into the film industry. The stipulation was they needed to make pro US military & anti-Soviet movies.

The interesting thing about Rocky 4 is Dolph Lundgren is actually genius level intelligence. He has a masters in chemical engineering or something to that effect and had a scholarship offer from MIT. But yes, in the movie they make him out to be a moron.

Rocky 4, Red Dawn, and Top Gun are really the Holy Trinity of Cold War propaganda. Er, cinema.

Yes, I remember the conspiracy theory. That's why we have Top Gun.

You beat me to it.

...and Braddock, Rambo, Clint with Heartbreak Ridge and Firefox, Ahhnold and all his movies.

Rambo 2 with the Viet-Cong and then Rambo 3 in Afghanistan.

It’s a pretty bizarre program when you think about it. I’m all for international outreach, but this is a guy who spent 4 years at Tennessee, went undrafted, and wasn’t signed to a 90 man roster. I’m not sure why he’s included along with guys who are new to football or at least new to football in the United States.

JAKOB JOHNSON on Hudl August 21st, 2016

JK ...:p

First Blood was an anti war movie, so the money came in after that. Platoon was 1986, so Oliver Stone must not have been on the program.

What am I saying, of course he wasn't on the program.

Agree on both. Sly took the cash.

Platoon....man that movie still bothers me. Once was enough.

I didn 't think the Patriots could sign a worse player than Lang but
here he is.

From the looks of this guy, I hope he can pass a urinalysis.

Here's a decent article about him from a couple years ago.

Tennessee Vols tight end Jakob Johnson working to have more catches than tackles

“We always joke with him,” Wolf said. “I think last year or the year before that, Jakob couldn’t catch a cold out here on the field.

“He committed himself every single day for 30 minutes after practice. He probably caught thousands of footballs last year off the JUGS machine after practice. Now I haven’t seen him drop but five or six passes between spring and (preseason) camp so far.”

Wolf has watched the mind-numbing repetition unfold with both wonder and considerable respect for Johnson.

“In my four years, I haven’t seen anything like it,” Wolf said. “Everything he gets, he’s earned 100 percent. I’m grateful to play with him.”

He was invited to be part of the pathway program last year already but an injury prevented him to join. Apparently whoever invites eligible players gave him another shot this year.

But you are right that those 4 years he spent at Tennessee are a bit weird but then again he essentially started at zero compared to HS recruits.

In the end it might be all about Germany being a market. As insignificant this is for most of fans here it will create a bit of buzz in Germany now and through camp.

Speaks several languages also.

And is ripped.

Oh lawdy...

I think they go in order 1-4. Throw out 5 and Balboa but Creed and Creed II were pretty good. Creed was actually excellent and Creed II wasn't great but I liked the end.

Creed 2 basically rips off Rocky 3 and 4 but it works somehow. I actually laughed out loud in the theater at moments that weren't meant to be funny because of that.

He was allotted to us at random ... that's how the program works.

Camp fodder
