Gronk retirement got you down?

6th title tho no?

Of course. My comment had nothing to do with past achievements (I have not forgotten them and how lucky we as a fan base are) but instead looking at the existing team today moving forward.

Not down at all. Gronk is a great TE, but a bad Patriot. Expensive, made of glass, and unreliable is not what the Patriots need. I am confident his replacement will be 70% as good for 10% as much 150% of the time. #InBillWeTrust
At some point, it becomes almost impossible to field a Super Bowl team without some elite talent -- even if that talent is prone to injury. We can't just say losing Gronk will somehow improve the team because, as the Super Bowl demonstrated, he is a guy who can make those low percentage, crucial catches.

Hiring a JAG at 70% of the cost may be enough get the team into the postseason, but without elite guys like Brady and Gronk the odds of winning a championship plummet. Against marquee talent, you need more than a Billy Beane algorithm and a good attitude.

The lack of a star is what still makes the 2001 victory over the Rams the most implausible. In other words, I'd rather bank on trading for an elite talent this offseason to maximize Brady's likely last year or two of peak play.

He is Michael Jordan at TE. He will be back before you know it. He ain't done yet. You heard it here first.

Or the Mick Jagger at TE. Announces retirement every year and then keeps coming back. Knitted two thread themes together. Nailed it! :)

No, not at all. As a person with back pain 24/7/365 per year, on pain meds constantly, I don't want to see him do more damage to his body that will result in a terrible rest of his life.

BB the GM has failed BB the HC.

It was debatable whether or not Gronk would play for NE last year.

Therefore, no I really wasn't expecting Gronk back money wise due to his contract plus he had a underwhelming 2018 season and did not look like the Gronk of his beast days.

I was hoping to see a heathly Gronk give it 1 last go and to mentor a rookie TE and passing the torch.

Not really. I think Gronk had a great career but it was time to hang it up. He was done playing at a high level.

Whole off season has me down, to be honest. Yes yes I know it’s typical BB but the lack of free agent moves, lack of trades, lack of keeping our own folks, and the first of the trio retiring is a real bummer.

We also had a sniff of a Patriots defense that you could be proud of for the first time in 15ish years just to lose a bunch of key pieces and the DC immediately after.

All will be well, just hard to be excited at this moment.
I have some hopefully temporal concerns right now. But I try to remind myself, 8 AFCCG in a row, and the AFC is still not that competitive in my opinion.

We will miss Grabkowski.

I love Gronk and he’s my second favorite Patriot ever but I’m glad he’s hanging it up on his terms. His body has taken enough abuse and I would like to see him live a long happy life.

Given his injury coming into the NFL and his style of play I NEVER expected him to have a long carer. He gave everything in the playoffs last year, but he is cooked.

BTW as to the song, a result of the Kieth Richards hanging out with the great Gram Parsons.

Does it have me down?

Put it this way: I see a red door, and I wanted painted black.

He was done playing at a high level over a full season, but in the playoffs he was everything you would ever need, blocking plus receiving, despite being dinged up.

Yes.
Been different since that cash out hit in the Jacksonville game. I blame them, the owner, the county and state of Florida in general ( which is either in ther Bermuda Triangle, or Ohio almost triangle which is a perversion of math) the citizens of Wisconsin as well as more evildoers who are too many to name off.

As soon as this becomes for real! I’ll start a gronk sucks thread

He would have retired had they beat the Eagles. Im thankful he stayed and left a winner. The entire offense will need to be remade. We will see what happens.

Nope. I figured he'd be gone after this season. He didn't look anywhere near as dominating as before. No one can deny this. Go watch some old Gronk plays, then watch last season's Gronk. Injuries had finally caught up with him. Edelman was taking nastier hits than he was and getting up much faster.

I'm really happy to see him dancing around and looking relatively healthy. Gronk and Bruschi are the only players to retire that I felt good about.
