B.G.C. 2019 NFL Draft/Patriot-Type Players Thread

Not a big fan of Rapp or especially Abram at 32, but both will be gone by 56. Maybe the well-dressed Amani Hooker with one of the 3rds? I'd pick him just for the Bobby Kraft jokes.
I think Deebo, Abram & Lindstrom are top 40, Rd1 guys from what I'm hearing.

I would expect Ferentz to whisper sweet nothings into Easley's ear about signing with us as a UDFA; it's the least he can do after Bill gave his son a job for no apparent reason.
I feel like someone out there in college world has to owe Bill a big favor or two & I'm hoping we call that card in this year lol.

Context ... But not great

So spent the last few days mourning over gronk... I will be shocked if we don't double dip at TE this year. There is talent in every round.

I watched some more tape on Jace Sternberger -

+ Has some of the best route running out of the TE Class this year.
+ Solid hands and big catch radius
+ Head Movement in routes is very smart.
+ Quicker than he looks.
- Think he will need to bulk up to become more of an inline TE
- Blocking is okay in the run game but needs refinement

Dawson Knox

+ Hyper Smart guy
+ Could become a 3 Down TE - Underrated Blocking
+ Finds Soft Spot in zone well.
- Needs to learn better angels when WHAM Blocking
- Lack of touches in Ole Miss System - AJ Brown, DK, Lodge.

Could Bisi Johnson be a dark horse in the late rounds or priority UDFA? A guy who already has great routes is someone that the Pats look for.. His size/speed reminds me of David Givens..

Yea I definitely remember talking about him here but I've tried to search w no luck at times too.

Former QB (Def remember bringing that up) but also spent time at DE until recently. 2* guy so he's probably never getting rid of that chip on his shoulder.
No I love him in the shallow/underneath stuff, hook defender. Great instincts & play speed. Versatility goes to all LB spots in a pinch w some work. Just really comfortable in space.
Tackling is probably his biggest concern but I dont see a huge problem. Just has to wrap up & take it down a notch.

PTP all day

Is Summers projected higher than Day 3 anywhere?

Tillery = Chris Jones

Book it!

Which Chris Jones??

The one currently playing for the Chiefs? Or the one who played for the Pats not too long again..

I haven't been able to find anyone who rates him highly, but I was blown away at how good he is in coverage for a guy who's 241. He looks like a safety out there. If I have time later, I'll cut some gifs of plays I liked and post them here. It's impressive.

I just wanted to say big props for this. You're the only one I've found who was talking about Davis last year. I'm incredibly impressed with the tape I watched this season. We worked him out, and I have a hunch he's going to be Van Noy's replacement when KVN takes a mega deal in free agency in a couple years. Super fun player to watch. His burst off the snap is the best I've seen in this entire class, but I agree he needs to move to LB for the pros.

Do you really think that someone is going to give a 30 year old Van Noy a "megal deal" in free agency?

Neither Vrabel nor Ninkovich got "mega deals" in free agency.

What also hurts Van Noy's chances is that he's a free agent when the CBA is up. Who knows if they'll have something done by then or they be striking/lockout..

I'm not doubting you. I don't take the Drafts Sites as gospel. I usually give a +/- of 2 rounds to what they say..

It will be interesting to see what the Patriots for a Chung replacement. What's also interesting will be what the Pats will do with the plethora of ILBs they currently have in Roberts, Sam, and Bentley.

That's probably me overstating it. :) Compared with what the Patriots are likely to pay, however, I think he could do pretty well on the open market.

I don't have time for more than a sampling, but look at how quick he is in space. I'm not saying he's a perfect prospect, but he's intriguing. Here are his testing numbers:

At first I thought he was slow to read the play, but I think he's actually waiting to ensure that he didn't give up an inside route across his face, which is why he played the leverage inside out. Regardless, his closing speed here is legit:

This looks like a safety. He's running with a receiver and is lockstep. I like how he turns his head to look for the ball, too. That's impressive for a 240+ LB.

Nothing impressive, but he doesn't panic and he can keep up easily with the route break.

A little good, a little bad. He plays the slot, shuffles, and turns to run with the receiver downfield. That looks about as clean as a corner. I left in the next snap, however, which shows him overrunning a play and missing a tackle. This is my biggest criticism of him so far. Still, the potential is pretty impressive.

No idea what thread to post this but I am so confused!!!

Even though the NFL is predominantly an offensive league I am still stuck in 2002 and want to focus on defense especially since this is a very strong year for the defensive line.

But it is also a strong year for WR and TE. Honestly I don't know which side to focus on...

Please, please, please don't pull a Tavon Wilson....

I agree with you.

I'm hoping we add to. DT, DE, TE, WR with 4 of the 1st 6 picks. I think that the team could get some steals later in the draft at TE and WR as well. .

I wouldn't be surprised at a triple sdip at WR, a double dip at TE and at DE.
