Been thinking and Iv come up with a realistic scenario.

Bill knows that after all the upheaval and players leaving that 2019 will be very hard. I think he, and brady to some extent, have marked 2019 as a rebuild year. With the Draft picks we have and the fact that there are no major contracts up next year I think they have set their target on the 2020 season.

Gronk will sit out this year to recover his body and recharge as there is no point in him taking damage during a down year. And I think he comes back for the 2020 season all guns blazing.

What do you think guys

They’re going to rebuild during the draft with trades of picks for players and moving up. They’re not punting on this year.

Belichick's strategy EVEY year is to win a Lombardi. It's worked 33% of the time the last 18 years.

I think there isn't any chance of Gronk coming back, even in 2020, he's done. Next man up.

Disagree.

The defense put up the greatest defensive performance in SB history. They lost what one player of note(Trey Flowers).

On offense we lost Gronk. But for the most part Gronk wasn't Gronk in 2018 anyway. Not to mention that they won a SB in 2016 without Gronk. While Brady was throwing to a 7th round former QB, a UDFA, an UDFA former lacrosse player, a 4th round rookie who never played another NFL game, and a gimpy Martellus Bennet. Oh and James White who is still around.

Which leads us to the RBs. Really became a strength of the team in the playoffs. Build the offense around that. If Michel can become a better receiver maybe we build the first dual-threat RB offense with Michel/White/Burkhead. Maybe add another dual-threat RB in the draft with all our draft picks.

And if Josh Gordon can get cleaned up...:D

And before you bring up: "What about Trent Brown?!?!?!!?!?" How many people last year would have predicted Trent Brown would be getting the largest OL contract in NFL history in FA? o_O

lot of good points raised gentlemen. My biggest worry is the coach turnover rather than the players leaving. flowers replaced by bennett and brown by whoever. Its that core of coaches that left for pastures new.

Patriots fan thinks this is a rebuilding year while everyone else thinks Patriots are one of the top 2,3 favorites if not THE favorite to win SBLIV. Never change!

we dont rebuild. we maintain with different faces. we plug and play with the next man up mentality. We pillage other teams up and coming players that cant break the starting line up. We coach them up on the Patriots way of doing business. They perform well in our system and we let them go or trade them before they get to the big pay day. We repeat this cycle every year.

but what we dont do is rebuild

Your time with TB12 is limited. They are going to try to win in 2019 and 2020 and beyond. Hopefully they grab Andy Isabella.

I will answer, just in case you were serious.

2019 is NOT a rebuilding year. The bettors and the mediots have us as the bast team in the NFL.

We replaced Flowers and Brown, with Bennett and Wynn.

There are many players whose contracts are up after this season.

They just won the SB. You think they are giving up on repeating to rebuild with a 42 year old GOAT?

No.

I think you should have saved the second half of that blunt for tonight

To paraphrase:

Rob Gronkowski isn't walking thru that door. Ben Coates ins't walking thru that door. Russ Francis isn't walking thru that door.

Congratulations! You are officially the first guy to count Brady and Belichcik out this (next) season. Don't worry, I am sure plenty will join you when we suck in September.

Bill and Tom will never give up. The 2019 season may be a down year but it won’t be for lack of trying.

No. No years off.

Who'd they lose last year? Cooks, Butler, Lewis, Solder, Amendola, Patricia. Probably should have gave up then.

How can anyone put forth any theory about strategy in March, before we’ve even had the draft, which could significantly alter the composition of our team, let alone any trades or injuries.

My guess is that there are 12 or more players that will have a major impact on the 2019 Patriots that aren’t even on the team yet. Let’s see who those players are before we try to predict what the two year plan is.

So long as we have TB12 we are going for the win.

Not concerned about the defense even with the lack of coaches right now. Lot of experience on that side of the ball.

The offense does look worrisome today. Allen and Gronk will be missed in the run game. Love Edelman, but at his age, position, size and history relying on him to make it through the season without injury given the load he is likely to carry is a long bet.

Rest of the league is not going to be too interested in helping us via trades. Think we have seen evidence of that already this year.

The good news is the offensive coaching staff looks strong and somehow BB and team always pulls it together. Not going to fret in March.

Let's wait until they are 5-6 in week 12 before we figure it out. You'know, IF.
