Greg Schiano Steps Down From DC Position

Pepper Johnson for Defensive Coordinator

He has a half dozen NFL rings as a player and coach.
He's left before I'd see Aaron Glenn here before him.
Its more then likely Stephen Belichick.
I know it will never happen it be a nice story for Mangini to come back and they win a 7th Superbowl together.
The way it went down really sucks.

Like I said, he has the IQ and the passion to hit the ground running.

I can think of nobody else in as good a position, right now. Nobody with remotely the degree of familiarity and respect that Mayo has in our system.

Mayo's official position will be the LB coach but IMO, he'll immediately be groomed for the DC role, and if he keeps checking off all the right boxes, he'll acquire more and more responsibilities as the season goes on.
The timing of Mayo's announcement and Schiano moving on is curious.

That was the first thing that came to mind, but being the Patriots we will never know

He's had a few chances to be DC within our system. He was passed over for a reason.

what a ****ty crazy ass off season. wtf is going on?

So what about us middle class working class chumps? We don't get to just not work and "spend time with our families"
Anyways ...don't let the door hit you in the butt, Schiano!

The next thirty years is destined to be JKraft/JMcD/SBelichick, right? It'll be interesting to see when Bill thinks it's time for Stephen to move up. Seems like the kind of dad that has higher expectations for his own kids.
Hope his kids do better than Shula's kids.

I'd love that to happen.

I think a potential darkhorse for this could also be Joe Judge.

ST coordinators have generally almost the most experience with creating varying gameplans every week, getting players from different backgrounds together and doing their best under lots of time pressure (many ST contributors have their ST meetings in addition to the regular D/O meetings).

He also has experience of how things are done on a coaching level and knows all players.

Perhaps living away from family with little time to go home created issues for him.

And he went to other organizations in an attempt to earn that chance and he hasn’t gotten there either.

There’s a difference between being a technique teacher (position coach) and a strategist (coordinator). Some of the best technique teachers are horrible strategists, and vice versa. Although in the NFL you tend not to get coordinator positions unless you succeed as a position coach so we probably don’t see many coordinators who aren’t good technique teachers.

It seemed like a good fit to me, but who knows. I will say that “wanting to spend more time with your family” is such a red flag cliche by now I’m surprised he used it.

We seem to be going in the wrong direction

Don't really think there is a connection. BB just recently did a radio show where he confirmed Schiano being the DC. Was taped very recently:

Curran and Perry confirmed that Mayo was rumored for quite some time to have an offer to join the staff.

If genius Mcvay can be a HC at 30 years old, then I don't see why Stephen Bellichick at 31, with his pedigree and tutelage from the grand master, can't replace Flores.

Yep.

2001- RAC
2005- Rat
2006-Pees
2010- Fat Matt

I think Belichick is going to take his time with his son and make sure he's ready and in the right situation before he hands over the reigns. The right situation probably isn't taking over as DC in everything but name following one of the greatest SB defensive performances _of all time_ and after losing our best or 2nd defensive best player (love HT but it's either Flowers or Gilmore as #1 for me)

My bad. I didn't complete the thought.

Bob Fraser was rumored to have been hired. Fraser is a LB coach. Mayo is a LB coach.

Speculate from that point.

He needs to get a friggan haircut.

I'm not crushed to be honest. I was iffy about his hiring to begin with.
What sold me on him was the fact that BB was sold on him. So I think it has to be considered a setback.
