Schefter Rumor: QB Josh Rosen “could be” traded?

Well said I think Brady is on a two year plan counting this year. I think after 2020 all bets are off and the Patriots would be foolish to think otherwise. Knowing the Organization I think the latter will be in play the GOAT cannot play forever. I am sure if they make a move for Josh Rosen: he will be the Patriots Starter in 2021 and if I am Rosen i want that in writing.
if you are asking a starting job from BB instead of earning it, you are gone.

If we are outbid for Rosen (for me that wd be anything more than a 2nd rounder), there is always next year's draft. I say this because we know that that draft is going to be dominated by early quarterback picks, which will tend to leave us with an excellent, if less prominent choice. In other words, I'm thinking there's going to be a good qb available to any team that wants to use a first rounder on one. It will just be the case of being very smart about the second wave of qbs available after the first is gone.

Point taken but I don't think they would Trade for him if they aren't projection him as a Future Starter. Counting 2021 Rosen would have to sit behind Brady for two years this year and next hopefully Brady retires by then.

Pretty much.
Expecting the team to pick up more than 1 UDFA quarterback to compete with whoever BB decides to bridge with. Honestly I would have no problem with that guy being Rosen, but no one should be handed anything in this organization.

Clayton Thorson day 3 is where I’m at with the qb situation.

I’d rather take Will Grier with a 2nd

None of the QBs of the last 2 or 3 years can throw the ball as well as Rosen. The only question has been his mental makeup. I' sure Belichick will have a handle on that. He certainly throws it better than Mayfield, Darnold and Allen. Maybe Murray throws better but he's diminutive.

The Pats would think he could be a starter if they traded for him. He is not going to be a starter because the Pats traded for him.

If we get Rosen I have no doubt that he will end up better than all the QBs in this class other than Haskins and maybe Murray.

In 2020 we are most likely going to miss out on Tua/Fromm/Herbert.

I think this is a no-brainer. If we can get Rosen without overpaying we should be going after him hard.
Let's look at some first year stats between Rosen and TB. Let's start off by saying Rosen played for the worst Team in the League and Brady won the SB in 2001 so the talent is evident. Brady also had one camp under his belt and not a pure rookie. Rosen was thrown into the lions' den.

Brady started 12 games in 2001 and Rosen 15

Brady threw for 2,643 and Rosen 2,278

Brady average per catch was 6.9 yards and Rosen 5.8 yards

Brady had 18 TD's to 12 ints. Rosen was 11TD's and 14 ints.

Brady was sacked 41 times with a good OL. and 3 fewer starts. Rosen was sacked 45 times with a paper mache OL.

Brady's QBR this year was 68.8 and Rosen was 66.7

Brady rushed for 43 Yards in 2001 and Rosen 138 first year.

You can read nothing into this but I would say the "sacrifice" Rosen took this year could go well for his future with a good Team. The Pats will never have an opportunity to Draft a top talent QB as long as they are still a top team. Rosen is 20 years younger than Brady.......20 years!

Rosen is slightly more mobile than TB and perhaps one of the top half of starting QB's in the NFL as far as cerebral. BB demands smart guys.

At pick #32 we are talking Daniel Jones rated as the 51st bet player in the Draft. Grier is rated #157. That is NOT good value for #32.

That being said I think Kyler is going 1st. The Cards will trade and have been offered a 2nd rounder. They are holding out for a 1st.

The only other possibility I see is Haskins is dropping a little and Locke is ascending. I would not be surprised if Locke is taken in the top 12 and Haskins tumbles. To #32? I don't think so but I would still take Rosen who is only 3 months older than Haskins.

You also have Rosen as a 5 year guy 1 st rounder, There will not be a great value at QB in Round one (probably traded anyway) at pick #32 so if he goes Jones in Round 2, he is a 4 year guy. Rosen has the same contract.

Not that Hoyer is not a great Team player, but Rosen would be cheaper to keep as TB back up until the passing of the torch.

Let's look at this another way. Steve Young was picked up in a trade from Tampa to the 49ers to take over for Joe Montana.

Young's numbers in Tampa were ironically similar to Rosen's as a starter.

His Tampa Bay Team was 2-12, he threw for 2,282 yards. He threw 8 TD's and was intercepted 13 times. Young was very mobile and still sacked 47 times! His QBR was 65.5

The Buccaneers received second and fourth round draft picks in the trade

Just sayin'

I would trade a 1st for Rosen, we can trade back up into the 1st if we had someone in mind, watch his college tape with an actual o line, worth it imo, or at least a 2nd and a 3rd since we have 3 3rd round picks.

Im a little late to the party, why are the cardinals trading him 1 year after taking him 10th overall??

Grier is intriguing, but IMO the wait-until-pick-56 approach only works if you can list plans A, B and C at that point--Grier's availability is far from certain. In fact, we're already starting to hear predictions that the Patriots will take him at 32.

I watched the last three or four of Rosen's games from last season and one thing I can say about him is that for a guy who had a horrible season he still seemed composed and was still competing. I wouldn't be against picking him up although I have no idea how he'll turn out.

It is all based on the rumor - perhaps true, perhaps not - that they are interested in selecting Kyler Murray with the #1 pick this year.

Lots of good stuff in that analysis, and I'm not saying that just because I agree with all of it. ;)

I think it's all a bout the price. The Cards are holding out for a first and the Pats will NEVER give that up for an asset that is likely going to sit for more years. However, if the deal can be sweetened, I think it could be done. The least painful way would be to give up the #64 PLUS a 6th this year and one of the comp 3rds we will have next year.

To the Cards those are 3 picks for a QB you don't want, and would be considered a fair deal. For the Pats in a year they already have 12 picks giving up 2 isn't that painful for the chance at your QB of the future. Plus it looks like they will have three 3rd round picks next season too, so giving up one of them won't be a killer for them.
