Gronk to retire

Wonder if they knew before FA or just recently. Could the Pats have been more of a player in FA?

Damn sounds like Cook is exclusively negotiating with the Saints.
Expects a deal to be done soon.
Even though Patriots are aggressively trying.
Damnit this hasnt been our offseason

It's never our offseason. Last year was not either

Bill knew weeks ago.
Agreed!
The whole Kraft family and Brady knew.
Too much mystery around Jared Cook and he would not wait on them so it bit them in the arse!
Rosenhause knew as well.
Double dip on TE in the Draft.

Here are a couple FA or Trade answers:

Austin Seferian-Jenkins, TE, Jaguars. Age: 26 6"5" 262 lbs. Bad year with the Jags. 50 Catches with the .....J.E.T.S. in 2017

Cameron Brate is currently the 12th highest paid Tight End in the league. The Bucs extended Brate to a $18M, 6 year extension with $7M in guarantees in 2018.When compared to the other top TE’s in the league over the last two years, Brate’s numbers stack up nicely.

Tampa Bay signed Cameron Brate to a long-term contract in 2018. The six-year deal was a team-friendly deal for the Bucs as they can cut Brate without any dead cap starting this offseason, but he is due $7 million this season and the Bucs are in CAP hell.

Brate has been excellent in certain types of blocking situations.Brate is on the rise with his blocking.

Don't have 2018 mumbers but 2016/2017
  • Brate: 105 catches - 14TD - 1,251 yds - 11.95 avg - 73 1st downs
  • Kelce: 168 catches - 12 TD - 2,163 yds - 12.85 avg - 110 1st downs
  • Graham - 122 catches - 16 TD - 1,443 yds - 11.65 avg - 75 1st downs
  • Rudolph - 140 catches - 15 TD - 1,372 yds - 9.7 avg - 82 1st downs
  • Walker - 139 catches - 10 TD - 1,607 yds - 11.6 avg - 78 1st downs
  • Gronk - 94 catches - 11 TD - 1,624 yds - 18.6 avg - 76 1st downs (8 games 2016)
  • Ertz - 152 catches - 12 TD - 1,641 yds - 10.8 avg - 88 1st downs
These numbers are with Winston and Fitzmagic. Brady?

The story at the onset of free agency was that the Patriots were cautiously optimistic that Gronk would return, but were operating as if he wasn't. Remember the story on the Pats' interest in Cook came out right as free agency began.

That was 2 weeks ago. We don't know when the Pats knew for sure he was retiring - if it was today, or a few days ago, etc.

There will be roster cuts.

Downside is that obviously they miss NE camp.

Who put that music with this video? Mother ****er, lol

I thought he was going to play one more year. I'm shocked. I shouldn't be. its the end of an area. this is the cherry on top of an offseason **** cake. no free agents of significance seem to want to play here. 75 percent of the coaches leave. and Gronk retires. :(

Thanks, Gronk. You gave us a whole lot - and had fun doing it!

You say this with a lot of authority, yet your suggests you have a limited understanding of the TE position. This is a list of the most productive receiving “tight ends” - blocking abilities irrelevant - in the last 20 years. Are the best QBs ever Brady, Manning, Brees, and Rodgers too?

Might be the stupidest comment I've ever seen addressed directly to me to be honest. Not even going to dignify this with an iota of a thoughtful response. Jesus.

Late to the party. I have mixed feelings about this, including anger.

1) I loved Gronk, best TE in NFL history. Just the GOAT, a total beast, unstoppable when healthy. There will never be another like him. Gave his all despite dozens of injuries during his career. Add in his amazing personality, and it’s been a joy and thrill to watch him.

2) Why The F@ck did he wait this long. Free Agency is almost over, and if he made his decision “in a couple weeks” instead of waiting SEVEN weeks, the Pats would’ve had more time AND cap space to sign Cook. Apparently he knew before the Super Bowl (signed some Hollywood deal apparently before the SB). He really f@cked over the Pats with this timing. If he did it a month ago, it would’ve helped the Pats. Hence my anger about the situation.

3) Belichick NEVER drafts for need. I think the last time he did that was 2012 with Hightower & Jones, moved up to get both. I’d be pleasantly shocked if he trades up or even drafts a TE at 32. I just don’t see him doing it. Also, I can’t see any TE trade targets available like Belichick did with the LT position last year (Brown).

Just a bad day, I’m in a pissed off mood.

One might say Gronk chose to go out....ON TOP :D

How can you disagree this has hurt us?
I mean it's tough but he's had so much time during his waffling we could of resigned Flowers with that cap.
Gone after Humphries more aggressively or Any receiver.

You do know we now have the weakest group of pass catchers in the NFL now?
There is no arguing that.
I love Gronk and he will go down as one of the best Patriots ever.
This effing blows though.
No disrespect, but we hear this every year.

Yes, we missed Cook, but we are the PATRIOTS.

They get it done.

BTW, I feel the same way every season. But I'm learning. ;)
