I will literally sh!t myself if the draft turns out this way, especially if we get both Hockenson and Samuel. Joe Jackson is just icing on the cake.

Yeah, I agree, really like this draft.

When our most immediate need is along the DL and this might be the deepest DL draft in a DECADE, you use almost half our picks on RECEIVERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

I know this is just a mock, and I know Hockenson will be gone about 15 picks before #32. But, Steve, THIS is the year to load up on big guys and edge rush prospects. Granted we NEED to add to the receiver corps and TE.

What I'd look for in a mock is the where in the first 6 picks, we pick up 2 guys on the DL, one OLB/Edgre rusher and a S. The other 2 picks can be used on a TE and WR.

With the last 6 picks, I simply don't care. I won't have a clue who they are, except that I expect at least 2 will make the team and be 4 year contributors.

Actually now that I think about it, I wouldn't be unhappy if we used all 6 of those picks in either moving up in this draft, or added to next year's.

BTW- 3 of our picks are in the 7th round. I really like that. It seems the personnel people do an EXCEPTIONAL job of finding UDFA's that make the team. Having those 3 picks kind of allows us to grab 3 guys that we'd normally have to fight for to get them into camp.

As good as our history is for finding UDFA's to make the squad, and how enticing it would be to join a team like the Pats, if I were a FA there are a lot more teams that an UDFA would have a better shot making than the Pats.

BTW- Even though I disagree with some of your selections, thanks for taking the time to do it. These mock drafts really help me understand a bit more about who is out there.

I'm fine with 1 TE and 1 WR, but I want a highly rated TE and a highly rated WR. I don't want them to wait until the 5th round or later to address those positions. If they could somehow wind up with TE Noah Fant, then a WR, for instance, WR Hakeem Butler, this offense would be insane, EVEN if Gronk doesn't return. Two BIG, fast targets for Brady. And we saw how different this offense was with Josh Gordon in the lineup. Hakeem Butler is 6'6" 230, and ran a 4.48, Noah Fant is 6'4" 255 and ran a 4.51. Both very explosive, and talented with huge catch radiuses.

No offense to Brady, but as he gets older, he probably will become less accurate than the Brady we saw in SB 51 & 52. Doesn't hurt to have receivers with huge catch radiuses. Wouldn't mind WR David Sills in the 3rd round if available. A former QB, who's also 6'4" 215, and can read defenses as a WR and has great hands. He would be a great replacement for Hogan, who doesn't seem to be coming back.

So yeah, definitely address the Dline, but it's extremely deep, as is WR & TE.

You have a better chance of being lead ballerina in the Nutcracker, than this happening. Hell, I'd be thrilled if we get ANY 2 of these guys. But you know that we are going to get a bunch of guys nobody knows.

I love the trade of 32 to the giants for 37 and 108.

And I am a huge Ferguson fan. His hands are incredibly violent and with pro coaching, he has a chance to be really special in our defense.

As a side note, the 7th pick, our 4th rounder will make the team; they always do. I also don't care about the rest or the UDFA's, but also presume that Belichick will hit on one or two. Bullock has done pretty well in the 5th.

I don't want a highly rated WR. Belichick does much better in drafting DL and OL in the 25-100 (or 105) sweet spot of the draft. I would like a top TE if we can get him. I'd trade 3 picks for Hockenson.

The reality is that we now have as good a receiving corps as we did on our SB team. Coming back are Edelman, Gordon and Dorsett. We've added LeCosse who will replace Hollister as a move TE (therefore a lesser need for Fant). We will add a receiver to replace Hogan (in free agency or by trade) and probably one or two more as cap competition (we already have Berrios, Harris and Ellington to compete for the 5th WR spot). Other than a flyer in the 4th or later, I don't see us drafting a WR.

Taking a quick look at a CBS/ Draft Scout mock there will be 14 front 7 defenders off the board when the Patriots pick, 12 of which are Edge Rushers or DL. Imo it makes no sense to go that route when they have been cleaned out before it gets to their pick. As much as I would love a really good Edge or DL prospect taking the 7th or 8th best prospect at either position in the first makes zero sense to me.

If the 8th best DL has more value than the best/2nd best safety or top 3 OL it makes a lot of sense.

The quality is there. The 2 DL's that are mocked to us at 32 would have been considered huge bargains in other years. The #8 DL may be a better bargain than the #3 OT or the
#3 S, and certainly better than the #3 WR. Of course, the #4 QB is a thought.
