Ryan Allen returns

People are giving Allen too much credit for his SB performance and Im not trying to knock the guy but we did punt from the 40 yard line all the time. If you are punting from the middle of the field I sure hope you pin the other team inside 15. There was one punt from our 25 yard mark range.

That only goes to show how important Edelman was because he was moving the chains. He was MVP worthy, among other reasons, for that.
Pinning opponents close to their goal line is a skill, it’s not a question of where on the field you’re punting from.

I am very happy with this. He's a known quantity and as such, is someone you don't have to worry about so much.

Their is a kicker in this draft I think would be a suitable option but as much as Ive complained about Gost not being perfect I certainly prefer him

I complain a lot about ghost but I’d be far happier with him than any other kicker that’s out there right now.

As long as it isn't too expensive I'm glad to have Allen back. He has been super dependable and that is worth a 2nd contract. It probably won't cost more than 2M anyway so it should be fine.

Great situational punter, accurate, and a great SB no matter what the cynics believe.

Why not a longer deal? Maybe not a four year extension but a two or even a three year deal seems reasonable. He has never been the best in the league like Johnny Hekker but Allen is consistently a top 10 punter.

Do not want to nit pic, but believe this is his 3rd contract with the Pats.. he was drafted in 2013.. this will be his 7th season with the Pats..

My only concern is this very reliable guy, was not signed for a longer period of time..

That group of people who were starting threads asking to replace / let go of Allen have been weirdly silent since late November/December. Fittingly.

Am actually positively surprised he is back. Can't remember the last punter who got a second contract under BB. Wonder what would have been if we had been able to smuggle Bojorquez onto the PS.
In fairness, Allen is among the very best punters in the NFL, and BB knows just how valuable field position is to the defensive game. Allen probably took a touchdown or two off the board in the Superbowl and BB isn't likely to be blind to that.

Younghoe Koo

I'm just kidding

Fun facts:

Ryan Allen needs:

60 punts to pass Rich Camarillo for most punts AS A Patriot - 469
1397 yards to pass Rich Camarillo for most punt yards AS A Patriot - 19923

Note I say as a Patriot - Jeff Feagles a 1 year Patriot had 1585 punts / 71,211 yards.

.

I sincerely hope he doesn't break the punt record next year. ;)

I assume its because they just don't need to. He is the longest tenured punter in BB's coaching career.
