Why do you hate your fellow Patriots fans?;)

Is the number correct? $7.1M without Dorsett, Harris. Simon, Pennell and Brooks?

cap machinations?

Next year, we have more than $85M in cap space.

Terrence Brooks 2-year deal with Patriots:

Max value $4m.

$1.305m fully guaranteed (signing bonus, 2019 salary).

Will make a min of $1.4m, max of $2m in 2019 with incentives.

No guarantees in 2020.

So both special teamers (Brooks, Bolden) can make $2m this year

GOOD BYE Ebner

GOOD BYE Ebner

Don't tease me. A man can dream.

Ebner Patriots career: Olympic Games.

I am joking but this move will save a little bit money and IMO will improve the unit and lock a guy for 2020. Ebner is a FA.

But lets see. I don't think they would gtd 1.3M to dump him a couple of months later ...

in addition this is significantly better contract for NE than I expected (considering what Brown got in NO). Its almost hard to believe they got him for 2.5 apy (half the Brown money) and could be exactly what they were looking for the last 2 years. Such pleasure to watch BB opperate..

Agree, i was in shock when i saw it first. It's a steal in my opinion. He may not have the same pass rush abilities as others on the market, but we have Adam Butler for our pass rushing DT. Great bit of business by BB.

He is NT. His job is to stuff the run, eat OL, push the pocket and make others feast on stats. Pats needed this for 2 years now. If he can stay focused he could be the most underpaid vet on the team.

Usually we at least get to August before people start calling for the entire special teams unit to be released.

Terrence Brooks (Patriots), $3.25M, $500K signing bonus, $1.305M gtd, salaries $805K (gtd), $850K; $200K March 1, 2020 roster bonus; $18,750 per game 46-man 2019, $25K per game 46-man 2020; $300K playtime incentive 2019; $450K playtime incentive 2020

So NE dip in FA market so far:

2 average core ST contracts to players they see making 46 (Bolden, Brooks +usable backups)
2 min vet WR contracts basically (Harris +R, Ellington) - TC backup competition
1 #3 TE vet contract (LaCosse +ST) - TC competition
1 low DT contract for starting 2-down NT (Pennel) - starter/rotational

6 new players for combined less than 5M cap hit id guess (top 51 rule incl.)

Only 3 of them count in UFA comp pick calculation.

Pennel and Simon combined should take some 4M or less off current Miguel's cap
(depending on LTB/NLTB incentives)

So should be some 4.5-5M left w/o Dorsett.

I doubt very much that any move that involves our core ST would be made before cuts. Just in case one of the others suffers an injury. They might want to save that money but I don't think this will happen before August.

That beings said, I wonder who'd be up next for the role of upback/personal protector if he were to be send away. It didn't sound like Brooks played as one before. Makes you wonder if that signing has more to do with King than Ebner.

Yes pretty much this. 4-4.5M
Dorsett 2M-3M

That leave us with extensions and Allen and Gost to sign.

imo the two core ST signings have to do with:

1. two core ST players currently not returning (although i do hope they can bring McClellan back) + Hogan who was a regular

2. insurance for both Slater and Ebner who both struggled with injuries 2 years in a row

btw- McClellan and Humber iirc were the most productive punt rushers last season and Bolden was #1 the season before.. Brooks is a gunner. Pats usually play multiple gunners changing positions (inside/outside)..

Lot of news came out today on contracts - Pennell, Simon, etc.

It'll be interesting to see Miguel's take on it and where they currently stand.
