I was listening to OMF yesterday and they were discussing the Patriots WR position. The offer to Humphries came up and it led to a discussion on how underpaid Edelman is going into this year. This is the last year of his contract and he is due approximately $4m.

Fauria figured Edelman’s agent is likely to approach the Pats privately to get an extension that includes an increase to this years pay. It’s remarkable how underpaid Edelman has been considering how valuable he has been to the team. I’m hoping they extend him for 2 more years after this season.

Edelman must be beside himself seeing all these JAG WRs getting monster contracts across the league

He deserves more money, but Edelman will be a legend in NE sports history. He has given up a lot of money for the glory and the chance to play with TB12. Let's not project our own priorities on to him - he may be perfectly happy from what he's gotten in his career. If he isn't an idiot (and it certainly appears he is not), he will use the money he's earned and his public platform to be comfortable for the rest of his life.

And he has, I believe, more SB rings than anyone besides, maybe, Jerry Rice.

He and Rice each have 3. Edelman has been to 5, Rice 4. But I think some Steelers have 4 from the 70s.

He’s arguably a hall of famer, if I were him I would demand the patriots double my base salary.

He is certainly not the brightest bulb

Or else what?

He’s 33 in May. Times running out, he should cash out before old age gets to him. He’s got the rings and fame, he could easily make more money

Edelman was the victim of bad timing and his Patriots/Brady love. No $ was forthcoming after 2013 as he was not yet believed in. After 2014 he was not going anywhere and the Pats knew it.

Sometimes less is more. With that said, if anyone deserves to be paid it's JE.

He won’t - but he is planning for a career after football.

But you didn’t answer my question. Are you suggesting he should hold out?

He’s too much of a celebrity in Massachusetts to do that and hurt his rep, but I honestly wouldn’t blame him if he did. I think he should go into gms office and ask for more money

To do what? What other skills does he have?
Edelman has appeal - is interviewed a lot and is good on television. Offbeat sense of humor. He will do fine.

I hope he doesn’t get it because it will hurt the team, since cap space is extremely tight.
Maybe they could throw some nltbe incentives at him.
But contracts aren’t about rewarding the past, they are about getting the best team in the field.
