Lions Sign Amendola

Would've welcomed him back with open arms, but there was no way in hell he was getting that type of money here.

Get paid Dola, you deserve it.

Well I guess that eliminates any pipe dream of Tate landing here...any guesses on what he'll get?

Tyler Lockett got an extension worth $10.6m per year with $20m guaranteed. Tate will probably command at least $12m, probably closer to $15m, for two or three years with $20m+ guaranteed. This is why the Patriots obtain their receivers through trades. The free agent market is usually very bleak.

I can't figure why the Patriots have such a blind spot.
Well, they’ve said it pretty much openly before. Their sight option system is complicated even for veterans to understand. It’s hard to just project someone to be an NFL caliber receiver to begin with. Combine those two facts, and it makes it even more difficult to hit on a draft pick.

So the question is, if their system makes it more difficult, maybe they should change their system? Well, it’s hard to argue with the success of the system - the offense has been rolling virtually throughout the entire 18 year run. Plus the fact that their most important and best asset, the QB, grew up and thrives in this system. So there’s no way it’s going to change.

So they’ll just need to keep digging and figure out a much better way of projecting who can make the leap from college into their system.

Danny "playoffs" Amendola should've signed with a team who goes to the playoffs. Ditto for last year. Poor guy is the third course of a two-course meal.

He’s seems bitter towards NE. Kinda like Welker when he left.

Yeah would've loved him back, but he already has 2 rings and didn't really like Belichick's coaching. If he can get paid way more elsewhere best of luck to him he deserves it.

Seriously reporting has become a joke. Jeff Howe said Amendola was interested in the Patriots over the weekend and last night it was reported somewhere, mutual interest. How could that die so quickly, if there was any credibility to it? And the whole Rappaport AB thing.

Does free agency, with all of its drama, twists, turns, and rapid developments need to be explained here?

Amendola is a system receiver. He went to Florida ( god save us and stone the crows)

Bring him back, he’s a rabbits foot

Amendola has decided that he'd rather make $4.5m to $5.75m in Detroit for a year than make what would likely be far less in New England. And, given the stage of his career, along with the way the Patriots nickel and dimed him, it's probably the wise decision.

Except for it meaning that he'll have to spend a year living in Detroit.

No, but reporting might be.

If you think at 10:26 PM last night Amendola and the Patriots were BOTH still interested, as the reporter said in a tweet (doubling down on his previous tweet no less), then indeed it is possible Kraft went in for a massage.

We can only wince at what Patterson, Hogan, and Dorsett will get.

The free agent wide receiver class is so thin that mediocrities like Beasley and Adam Humphries are going to be in the $8m-10m range.

Your post makes it clear that, indeed, the free agent thing needs to be explained.

Adam Humphries at $8-10 million might be worth it, but there’s not much cap room

I disagree about the cap room. We are in absolute great condition in terms cap space and future commitments and could sign whoever we want.

That being said I completely agree about Humphries. People need to start getting to grips that the cap is at 188m. So 8-10 is not a crazy amount of money for a productive receiver.

Detroit Lions sign wide receiver Danny Amendola to one-year deal

Was a little mad at Danny until I saw the numbers. The base is 4.5 million, I think. At the end of the day, this is a business. He likely has a finite window to make this kind of money. He played under his market value here for several years and took pay cut after pay cut. Cannot blame the guy for chasing the money. No way Bill was giving him anywhere near this sort of cash. To me, he's thinking about retirement and building a nest egg for him and his family. No hard feelings.

Still disappointed though.

Oh well, I guess we're not getting the band back together...I forgot how much I hate this time of year!

Definitely more than I thought he'd get. I thought he was gonna get something like Decker ($1.5M guaranteed + 600K in incentives). Instead he gets $4.5M guaranteed with $1M in incentives.

Yeah, and Lockett also signed his extension before the 2018 season. In late 2016 he had a really bad leg injury and his 2017 season was very pedestrian. Seattle was very opportunistic with the timing of that extension. His stock was definitely a little down at the time.
