QB of the future

Daniel Jones looked extremely good today. Tons of arm strength, fantastic footwork, very fast release, accurate, smart. He's the next Tom Brady if you ever saw one. He'd really be worth selling the farm for if it's doable.

Stidham looked really good too. Nothing new, as it was all on tape.

Haskins looked pretty bad for a supposed #1 QB. I don't like his release, arm strength is pretty average, and he seems lackadaisical. I'm not a fan anymore.

Lock looked bad. Never have been a fan.

Jake Browning looks like the next Kirk Cousins. He probably doesn't have that ceiling, but he's definitely capable of being one of the 32 best QBs in the league, and a WCO team will love him in the mid rounds.

Ryan Finley looked pretty sharp too. Less Cousins and more Chad Pennington perhaps. Good accuracy and sharp mechanics. He's a better fit in a downfield offense than Browning. Arm strength actually looked really solid. For all the talk that he lacks it, he looked like one of the stronger throwers out there today.

McSorley is a sleeper fav of mine, assuming most see him as a late round prospect. He showed good timed speed today, and we already knew he was a good runner. Other than Murray, he's probably the best runner in the class. As a thrower, he has good enough arm strength and some things you can work with. Footwork is a bit slow. Seems like the kind of guy that would really benefit from sitting a year and learning from a QB guru, and then he could surprise in 1-2 years. He'd probably be best off in a spread offense, where he can use that speed and has some easier throws to make.

The only guy I didn't see workout is Thorson. Not sure if that footage will eventually come out or what. He's apparently not a big name guy.

Jones and Stidham are the rock star talents. Finley, Thorson, McSorley, and Browing are the sleepers. Finley and Thorson for downfield passing offenses (like the Pats have), Browning for the WCO (calling Redskins, Raiders), and McSorley for the spread (Mayfield backup?).

I was thinking the same thing watching the combine yesterday. Good size, tough, athletic, likes to run.

IMO BB will not sacrifice 32nd pick to grab a QB who will be a backup season,two or even longer. My favourite is Daniel Jones but he will be gone till our choice. The more I watch Grier the more I like him. His accuracy and most of all charisma is very catchy. He seems to be a true warrior reminding me a bit Mayfield. Obviously he has some issues like lack of arm strength or off the field problms but he is worth to be considered as a future Patriot. Taking him in the 2nd round sounds to me realistically.

Lots of QBs are playmakers in college offenses. Mayfield is actually good though... Say what you want about his moxie and finding other guys with that aspect, but Mayfield actually has good arm strength, good accuracy, etc. His personality hides those facts.

I was talking about Grier's issues connected with his lack of arm strength not Mayfield's. I agree Mayfield has a cannon in his arm.

Probably a higher ceiling than that but fair comparison

If NE takes a QB it's probably Grier in the 3rd or the 4th...whom I do like
My favorites are Jones and Stidham, although this QB class sucks

To me, Grier doesn't make any hard throws. That says a lot more than arm strength. He doesn't make any great reads. He's not a guy who can play in a timing offense. He doesn't have sharp mechanics -- in fact, he had the longest windup at the entire combine.

Wasn't impressed by him Stidham had a great release and touch on the ball.
However the knock is he crumbles under pressure and came from a one read offense.

By the time you finally get him decently accurate, you still have like 95% of QB to play, and that would already be years into his career. There's just not enough time, both in his career and in the timeline that Pats need to find certainty for their QB of the future.

We must really hate the QBs in this draft if we are looking at Bortles or Tannenhill.

The biggest problem I see here is how to come up with a contract both sides would accept.

After all, neither Bortles nor Tannehill would have any real chance of winning the starting job.

Who knows. I was listening to some Giants draft talk on Saturday morning. Their guy from the combine felt that Giants would not be taking a QB (Haskins) at 6 because they estimate his (value) about mid 2nd. The guy added most football people he’s talked to aren’t sold on any QB in this draft. It’s a very good defensive draft with about 75 guys as likely starters in the NFL The guy thought the Giants would ride with Eli again and maybe take a guy who falls. They have massive holes on defense to fill and no 2nd rounder.
