We know that Tom will keep playing probably until he is 45, now the question is, who are we going to draft? JG is gone, now we need to start grooming the next QB and learn from the GOAT from the sidelines.

Coming out of college Luck was the best prized we in years, as of late none of the recent number one rounder qbs have impressed me.

Mahomes was pretty good this year, but teams will adjust to their offense and I highly doubt he will have another mvp worthy year next year.

I haven’t watched much of college football lately so I don’t know who will be coming out of college who might be worth a pick for the pats in the next 2 years in late 1st round early 2nd.

We do not really know what we have in Danny Ettling, he does hold a great clipboard though, when TC comes this year may have a clearer picture to see if he fits into this system.. or time to move on to another potential replacement ( but we all know there is no replacement for #12)..

Ettling played in 3 preseason games, starting one.. there is not a lot of evidence that we can go on at this time.. stay tuned.

Then there are a few guys who will be floating around out there who may be a possibility, Tedy Bridgewater?? Bridgewater is still only 27 years old.

The "Golden Arm, number 19"

A few things that run through my mind as we talk about Brady's successor:

1. Would the Pats bring in a high profile college QB who is deemed to be the heir apparent and then have to suffer through the constant barrage of media and fans who talk about a change of QB if Brady falters for a couple games in a row?

2. Would Brady be ok with having his heir apparent on the sidelines? I have a feeling that wouldn't sit well with him unless he gave his blessing. Of course if Brady did give his blessing then all the "are you going to retire?!" questions, albeit constant as it is, would escalate. The questions about his retiring annoys me as it is. I can imagine how annoying it is to Brady.

3. Regarding the above, would it matter to the team if Brady gave his blessing or not? I think it would.

4. I think they are going to keep running Brady out there until Brady himself tells the team it is his last year. Whether it be due to injury or he thinks he can no longer meet his own expectations he will notify the team of his plans to retire during the season or immediately after. Then the team will draft a QB, if there is one they really covet, and let him develop for a year or most of the year behind a competent backup. Perhaps it would be Hoyer since he knows the system and would harbor no fantasies of being the QB of the future. So no drama aside from the media and fans champing at the bit to see the future at QB. I wouldn't exactly call that tanking but the Pats would probably not make the playoffs, thus giving the team a higher draft pick in the proceeding draft. Since that QB will be under a rookie deal they will be able to afford to upgrade in other areas as well. This will start the the next generation of (hopefully) greatness.

Brady doesn’t have a say in personnel moves, and o seriously doubt he will have any issue with them planning for the future at QB. Even if they draft a QB high in the draft it will be a couple of years before they will be ready to take over, and while Beady won’t just hand the job over I think he wants them to succeed when he leaves and he will be helpful getting young QB’s ready for when he hangs them up.

I can not see any qb in this draft as being anything close to a franchise qb.

With Brady in the final year of his deal, there is no need to change anything. Brady starts and Hoyer backs him up. Plus we have etling stashed in the practice squad.

We use the draft (6 of the first 101 picks) and sign selected free agents to restock our deleted defensive line and deleted offensive weapons as well as fill in depth.

2019 we make another super bowl run.

2020- we tank big time. 0 and 16. Then with the first pick in the draft, we take Lawrence from Clemson.

2020 draft. No idea who because the obvious candidates won't be possible. Tagovailoa, Fromm and Herbert will all go too early even if NE trades up.

See post #10...

QB is a very hard position to evaluate coming out of college. Even experts get it wrong all the time. To say there is no franchise QB in any draft is silly - there always may be one lurking. The Patriots are very unlikely to get a huge name - moving up is very expensive and a bust sets your franchise back years if you do. So I expect our next guy will be a 2nd or 3rd round guy.

If Tom calls it a career after a Super Bowl 54 win.. I would be 100% in for tanking for Lawrence.

How successful is tanking anyway? Doesn't seem like it's working all that often.

Unless you are 100% sure that Trevor Lawrence is going to become the greatest football player this world has ever seen, it doesn't seem to be a good plan.

Well, I am sure we would find out what the penalties for “intentional” tanking are in the NFL.

Miami is pretty open about doing it in 2019.
