Peter King’s Sportswriting Method

1. Think of a really, really obvious mainstream idea that has no supporting evidence yet can’t decisively be proven wrong. Do not try to think about it critically. Do not seek out people who know whether it’s true or false.

2. Publish story.

3. Repeat steps 1 and 2.

go all in on 2021

Nope.

Unless this was about giving a QB prospect a ride somewhere, you should fix the title.

Or getting really close to people when interviewing them...

Let’s just ride it out with Brady at this point.

If we have to go through an inbetween transiion or having no QB, then so be it.

Heck yeah. I've never understood the whole heir apparent thing. I know some is having a cheap backup we can flip for an asset later, but it has still burned my bacon that Brady has always given hometown discounts, and yet the WR cupboard is so often bare.

It's sports. You can't compete for a championship every year forever....not even if you're the Patriots!

I'd rather have some terrible years post-Brady, and load up with as many guys as possible who will make an on field impact (as long as Brady had gas in the tank) instead of having guys holding a clipboard while Tom's still around. The half-in, half-out draft strategy should finally end.

When has King been right about anything Patriots related? Has no idea of the pulse of this team. No Parcels here to throw him any bones.

Screw him and Costas. Their moral compass during Inside the NFL during spygate was pathetic. Almost as Pathetic as “what about the children?”

The North Remembers.

  • The Patriots reject the notion of a window, even for Brady.
  • BB has said "It's hard to win a Super Bowl, even when everything goes right."
  • He's also said he isn't willing to have a roster like the 2011 Colts.

No it isn't "this". "This" will go to an appropriate cellar dweller, and become a distant bust memory.

I agree with the first part of your statement (Lawrence will not be a Patriot) but not the second (Lawrence is about as sure a thing as you'll ever see).

Sad thing is the roster was good enough to win 6 or 7 games without Manning in 2011. They just chose to tank like the gutless dolts they are.

I have always been of the firm belief that, though Belichick is the best coach ever, Brady is a magician back there who makes this offense hum, and that he's 51% responsible for all the winning. When he's gone, this team will take a precipitous dive. They'll finish with 6 wins. That'll be the year to draft a QB.

Now, before everyone jumps on my statement, I don't believe that means Belichick can't win without Brady. The 2004 team could've probably won without him. A very talented D and a middling O could win the SB easy for Belichick. I'm just talking about the current Patriots. Take Brady off this team and they are a 6-8 win team.

So... wait 2 years, draft a rookie high, and sign a stopgap QB for a year.

Yeah, this is all well known. I strongly disagree with most of it.

1. For all his genius, windows do exist whether Bill wants to believe it or not.

2. Yes it is one of the hardest things in sports. So why the need for this seamless Brady secession plan? Are we expecting to compete for a Super Bowl every single season forever? Shouldn't we be optimizing our chances at this incredibly hard thing while we have, you know, the GOAT?

3. I said I'd personally rather have a bad team than use picks on clipboard holders the rest of Brady's career. That doesn't mean that in reality, we can't acquire talent to increase our odds now, while also fielding a competitive team in the future that's lacking the clear QBOTF. The players we draft/acquire that help us during Brady's remaining tenure can be kept/flipped to help keep us relevant until that next guy is brought on. What says drafting a non-backup QB will make us the 2011 Colts? That's non-sense.

I'm not saying go LA Rams, and go all in like suckers. I am saying take full advantage of what we have right now. Let's stop drafting like Brady isn't special, and stop acting like we gotta get that next guy cause this train is just gonna keep on a rolling with said next guy.

Bill’s probably driving his successor straight to the Ground Round, right this minute.
