What is his status? I believe that he was on the PS IR, and would be a free agent.

I think you're right. Don't know if PS players can even have multi year deals. Don't care either way if he comes back. His moves were completely ineffective against actual NFL players even though he looked borderline okay in the preseason.

He should be a FA. I have not heard that the Pats signed him to a futures deal. I did see the NESN article that claimed he is on the roster for next season, but OTC doesn't confirm that.

Either way I agree, he did not impress last year before his injury. He had a golden opportunity to make the team as a punt returner and he had a huge punt return fumble early in the year. He is very short but very quick. Nevertheless, I suspect his miscue will hurt his chances of being resigned.

Didn't he sign with another team like the Jets? Or the Panthers? My memory ain't what it used to be......

From wiki:

"On September 1, 2018, McCarron was waived by the Patriots and was signed to the practice squad the next day.[12][13] He was promoted to the active roster on September 6, 2018.[14] McCarron played in the season opener on September 9, 2018 and recorded one punt return but was waived by the Patriots the next day.[15] He was re-signed to the practice squad on September 15, 2018.[16] McCarron won Super Bowl LIII when the Patriots defeated the Los Angeles Rams 13-3."

I don't see how the Pats could move on from a guy who single-handedly won the Super Bowl.

He will enter the pantheon of preseason binkies that were forgotten about 1-2 years later.
is there still room for new additions? I thought it was getting pretty crowded in there. But I've forgotten who all is in it.

New England Patriots

He is indeed on the Practice squad Injured list

you have to scroll all the way down to the bottom, but he is there

They sure went through their share of little white dude slot receivers on the PS, last year. It remains to be seen how much was due to Edelman missing the first 4 games and how much may be a desire to keep a prospect for future development.

Berrios
McCarron
Billingsley

Trade him for Kupp imo

I think Berrios was that "future development" they were hoping for.
