Thoughts on Sony Michel

This article is more than a week old but it's uninhibited commentary by Ivan on Sony.

Basically Ivan said because of the knee injury he hasn't been able to go full tilt. Also said Sony has no idea how good he can be.

Sony is so humble and down to earth. I love this kid.

Patriots RBs coach says Sony Michel 'doesn't realize how good he is yet'
I felt Sony wasn't 100% all year, probably was 85-90% near the end. Made some great cuts during the 1st Jet's game, and that's just one of the things that makes him special. I expect to see more of the elusiveness by Sony Michel next year. Don't be surprised by some 50+ yard runs next year (if 100% healthy).

probably more durable, but don't see his running game being better.. and Rex at this point is a much better receiver.

Sony Michel 2018 Y/A = 4.5.

Rex Burkhead 2018 Y/A = 3.3.

he can make someone miss occasionally, Sony rarely does.

You should take another look at those two 26 yard runs that you brought up earlier. You'll see that the opposite is true. Michel and Burkhead both went through the line but Michel was the one who was pulling away from the defender in the middle of the field and Burkhead was the one who was tackled by him.

Sony is, without a doubt, the better runner than Rex. That being said I sort of echo you on pumping the breaks a bit. We aren't talking about a budding superstar yet.

But he is a smart runner and a hard runner who locates holes and is decisive. He is a valuable offensive piece who should only get better. I like the kid and ultimately he has already contributed more than our last several first round picks, easily.
He had a really good regular season despite an injury that cost him parts of TC and the start of the season. But what really gets me excited is he stepped his game up in the playoffs and again in the SB. He's exactly the kind of kid that gets me excited a budding superstar is a good term.
I might even go as far as to remove budding and just call him a superstar but then telling me to pump the brakes would be reasonable.

Yeah I don't think it's all that easy to come in as a rookie without training camp and then expected to perform right away because the team lacks that type of runner. So the Detroit and Jacksonville game 2 games to groove into action, he missed the Houston game. That's 3 games not being 100%. Then Michel gets rolling with a couple 100 yard games before he suffers what appears to be a season long injury. He got lucky but he again has to get back to where he was during the KC, Indy stretch and even that was not 100% because he missed training camp. He then again takes bye week and then Tennessee game to get back to about what 80%. After that he stays healthy and has very good games vs NYJ and BUF before he finally is close to being healthy in the playoffs and dominates there.

so we are talking about a 1,267 yards, 4.5 ypc, 12 TD RB over 16 games who was only close to being healthy for about 13 games.
