Passing of the tourch.

Well constructed argument but I think your missing the point. I'm not talking about as a team, overall you guys have a better team, you won the superbowl, but at QB, no comparison anymore.

I’ll finally tell you since you’ve essentially had a “Kick Me” sign on your as$ for this entire thread. The phrase you are looking for is “changing of the guard.” “Passing the torch” would apply to a player in the same team handing the reigns to someone else, like Favre to Rodgers or Alex Smith to Mahomes. This is one of many reasons why you sound like a clown. At least use the correct phrase.

Just watching NFL live or NFL network and when they talk about Mahomes vs Brady virtually all of them agree Mahomes is a better QB and the future.

Mahomes first half passing: 4/12 for 65 yards. 3 sacks, -38 yards. 0 points. Tell us all again about how great he was in the AFCCG.

first thing to this very misinformed post. Its not like he had a good rookie playing year or great year, he had the best second year or first rookie year " whichever does not matter" in the HISTORY of the NFL, I think people say cam neuton or wientz etc those paled in comparison to his rookie errr second year campaign.

He wasn't exposed in the playoffs in fact he was MUCH better than Brady, hence the passing of the torch. Brady actually didn't play well at all throwing 2 INT's with an almost 3rd that would have sealed the game if ford wasn't such a block head.

Look you won, I'm happy for you, all it great and I'm not butt hurt in the least, but there was a 100% passing of the torch at the QB and you know that.
GTFO with your lame sauce . Your act has grown tedious.

That exactly what Mahomes biggest strength is, what's between the ears, he also has everything else. I think the tough part for most pats fans is knowing that his best days are behind him, maybe not as a team but at QB. Mahomes has took the torch, Brady knows it even if you don't think so.
Oh, you must've thought I meant his hair when I said "what's between his ears".... Because you couldn't possibly think he can read defenses like Brady. He definitely has Brady beat on hair.

Mahoney might be a future star, but I probably watch NFLN as much as you do and never once have I heard anyone there proclaim him a better quarterback than Brady. That simply is preposterous.

Again. Much Better. Those words do not mean what you think they do.

Sadly you cant see the forest thru the trees. You will eventually, but right now your still sporting a chubby for your QB. So we will wait for the blood to return to your brain before continuing. But just understand just one of my points and that is that it is too soon. Your crush will eventually turn to either love or return to something more like how you felt for Alex Smith.

Setting the record straight: this kid's real name is Mahoney. "Mahomes" is some sort of 'hood street slang a la "my homey." Just because he got that put on the back of his jersey doesn't make it right.

I have nothing against the way you feel about this topic...free speech and all. I think the difference is in how one judges the role of the QB and what makes them great. To us Pats fans, most of us remember Bledsoe with his gaudy stats and sporadic heroics (I was a fan and thoroughly appreciated him) and then came Brady a guy that would do whatever was needed at the time to win and the idea of QB-ing (for me) has taken on a new meaning. Some example of greatness to me is Brady in the SB going to the sideline and saying "Let's just kick the FG" instead of his ego getting in the way of winning and begging to go for the 4 and inches or handing the ball off time and time again because the defense is gearing up to stop the run. He also goes out of his way to fit within the framework of the entire team and not demand special treatment. But above all else, he is a leader that inspires his teammates to also do whatever it takes to win and win and win and win and win and win again (btw that was six wins...get it? ya know because the Patriots are 6x SB Champions.) Anyway, that felt good to write and hope it helps you understand the Patriots fans viewpoint about watching greatness in a QB.

This was the most well thought thru responses and makes a lot of sense. I think as fans of a team that we only or mainly watch our QB most of the time so we pick up on what makes him great or at least what we are hoping makes him better than the rest.

I think why we are so excited isn't because Mahomes is physically gifted but more that his mind and his want to win is incredible and reminds us of brady. There were several occasions this year where you can see him really upset that they lost and could just feel the difference in the next game. I think we are all optimistic that he will blaze a trail of victories for us as the years go on. Injuries aside which is probably the biggest unknown he will end of having at least half of the success of Brady with rings will make this town go crazy. Thanks for being the first Pats fan to post a nice and well thought thru response without personal name calling, I really appreciate this and of course enjoy another ring!

I have seen it on both networks ( NFL and ESPN) several analysis obviously they all gush about how great brady is but also know that much of the success has been because of the overall team and coaching. a couple of days ago one of the analysis on nfl live was even talking about how dominate the Pats would have been this year with their D and the numbers put up by Pat, basically saying it would of been a 16-0 year like it was in 07.

Alex Smith has never ever even come close to this kind of year. He is the definition of game manager, probably the furthest thing from what Mahomes is as possible. We liked Smith for what he was but wasn't a winner in the playoffs.

The butthurt troll has been placed on ignore. Ah, Elysium!

The key to your comments is 'this year" It's just one year, stop projecting his one year into every year. He may well be great, but right now he is just a one year wonder. Stop and think for a second, Mahomes won one playoff game...ONE... He hasnt done s##t yet, except get you excited. The league has plenty of good arms and runners. But give it time, he seems like a good kid, but win something before crowning him king. Why is that so hard for you to understand.

What was his second half numbers?
What? You mean after Andy Reid did his homework for him at halftime and helped him figure out our stunts? The kid still struggled, and did so quite clearly, with setting protections at the LoS. He’s a quality QB, but until he gets that down, let’s pump the brakes on the “tourch” passing.

If you swapped skill position players how do you think Mahomes would have done? How do you think he'll do when he doesn't have a pro bowl quality player at all the skill positions? The Chiefs were 3-5 against teams with winning records this year. Kelce turns 30, Watkins is often injured...we'll see how he does in time.

look that sounds great but I think Edelman is a top 5 WR in football and your defense and coaching is second to none.

One thing to look at is the Chiefs didn't have any games they were out of or had lost to a poor team. You guys had some head scratchers this year.

Just crazy saying he had a bad first half and not paying attention to the second.

Its like if you have a very good baseball player and he strikes out in the first and fourth inning but then hits a home run and the triple with 6 RBI's and focusing on the two strikeouts. Does not make any sense. If football was two quarters I would get it but its not.

It was obvious that one of the top two teams had to lose, unfortunately for Chiefs fans it was their team. I like the Chiefs (easily my second favorite AFC team), but they couldn't beat the Patriots in their home stadium against a well coached team with the most clutch performer in the history of the game. Who cares what happens in the first half if your team wins (remember 28-3), but all bets are off if you can't pull it out in the end and the critics will be everywhere. I think Mahomes is getting a free pass from the media (for the most part) and most football fans because he came up short against the greatest two individuals to ever influence an NFL game (BB and Brady). But next year if Mahomes loses to anyone else, especially at home, watch out, the vultures will tear into him. Especially since these mediots are staking their pristine (sarcasm) reputations on him.

Yes and no. Jax coming out of the gate looked like the real deal and they had an ax to grind after losing the AFCCG last year. Detroit and Tennessee two former Patriots came up with great game plans and in both of those games the OL was a mess with injuries. Miami has always been a house of horrors and they lost on a play that happens once every couple of seasons. Pittsburgh was a combination of the team killing itself with penalties and the zebras also home cooking for the Steelers.

But at the same time they beat Houston, KC twice, LAC, LAR, Chicago and Indianapolis all playoff teams.

Also in regards to JE11 remember he missed the first 4 games and had inconsistencies working his way back from injury. The finished product looked like the guy vs the Falcons but there were a lot of drops getting there.

Mahomes is no Bortles but look at the Jags drop off. Matt Ryan and the Falcons went from SB to WC to out of the playoffs. The Eagles went from SB to WC to.......Wentz/Foles weren't there only issues.

It's one season and to be honest I would have rooted for the Chiefs in the SB had they won that game. They were very complimentary in defeat and I haven't rooted for another AFC team since the 90's when the Pats don't make it.
