Prediction: NE requests a 2019 salary restructure and Hogan accepts.
2019 WR depth

Prediction: NE won't be requesting a "restructure" to a contract that doesn't exist.

Hogan is an Unrestricted FA

I agree, but my pipedream is a receiving corps of Edelman, Hogan, Amendola, Gordon and Patterson for next year. I know it's a long shot, but all for the right price of course.
I think if you’re going for a pipe dream it you can do better than that...There are a handful of decent free-agent wide receivers out there this year, so I think the Pats need to do that, and then obviously hope to hit in the draft.

Yeah, i'm assuming he will be gone but he will always be a patriot in my mind.

Hogan had some big moments here but I think this will be a mutual seperation.

I think he's headed to NJ. His wife and twins live in NY or maybe even NJ I forget exactly where. So he probably headed to his fourth AFCE team.
On Long Island.

Hogan seems like a great guy and I really want him to do well, but other than a few teasingly great plays, he just can't seem to get open. I would be very surprised if he was back next year.

This is completely rational to every fan, which is why you can expect Belichick to take a 180 view somehow and be right.

Hogan's wife is an intern and should be free to go to another location soon. I wouldn't be surprised if he went back to Miami were it all started for him and think Chad O'Shea would be glad to have him.

Agree. My point is a rookie player like him. Talented, quick study, gains Tom's trust. Produces.

Hogan's current situation reminds me of that of Blount. I liked both players and am grateful for the good things they each did for the franchise. But both players' skillset dictated that upgrades were/are needed.

At the WR position, it is critical that we upgrade the position in 2019. With no deep threat, the Rams showed what taking away our wheel routes does to our offense. We need a decent free agent signing and at least one good young pick in the draft that can hopefully contribute 25-35 catches his first season. With the first round of the draft looking like its going to be very heavy with players on D, we should be able to pick up a good young receiver or two.

Thank you to Hogan for all he's done for us. Good luck with your next franchise, unless its the Jets!

I would rather roll with Dorsett. Guy caught nearly everything thrown his way. Thought in the superbowl with hogan struggling they shouldve gone to him more.

the TD catch in the Chiefs game was a nice one.

Overall I think his tenure was successful for both sides. I am not really sure what happened after he sustained that shoulder injury last season. He hurt his shoulder and didn't do much aside from the Eagles Super Bowl since. This season was particularly odd considering how bare the cupboard was the first 4 weeks and he still had no production. Make what you will of him sitting alone on the bench and the occasional helmet toss coming off the field but I would assume a separation is what's best for both sides.

For comparison, in his three seasons with the Pats Hogan has caught 38, 34, and 35 catches in the regular season, and contributed 17, 9, and 8 post-season catches. How is a rookie catching 25 to 35 going to be an upgrade? At 25 catches that would be about 28% fewer receptions, quite a drop off. At 35 it would be an even swap, not an upgrade. You can argue the upside of future potential, but that ignores the downside risk of a flop, and the existing trust between Brady and Hogan.

I’d say Hogan, like Amendola, deserves a shot in camp, along with some youngsters and other free agents. See what they show, let the best performers rise to the top and skim the cream. Hogan and ‘Dola are both FAs so they very well might not be here even if the team wants them here, if some other team is willing to open the checkbook to bring in vets with Super Bowl winning experience. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them here, wouldn’t be surprised to see them elsewhere. Maybe a bit more expect the latter, because of Bill’s “better a year early” philosophy.

I like Hogan but he’s not that good anymore. No separation at all and we need to upgrade.

Look at the Super Bowl. Rams had a great game plan before the Pats changed things up in the 4th. Wade Phillips took away Gronk and James White. That left Edelman and our outside WRs. Edelman had a huge game and Hogan had 0 catches on 6 targets. If we had a good outside WR we win that game by 20+ pts.

If Gronk retires then Edelman will get more double coverage. We really need more talent at the WR position.

Give them enough bonus money and sure, Amendola and Hogan would be willing to take "shot in camp".

Probably wouldn’t be structured that way. There’s a tail of dead money that the team would want to avoid. The determining factor won’t be what the Pats offer, it will be what other teams offer. That’s why it’s silly to say “keep Hogan” or “bring back ‘Dola” as if it’s purely up to the Patriots. Question is, how strong a run to make after either of them, and I can’t see the Pats going after them very much if there is strong competition.

I hear you but I am thinking 2019 and beyond. Not just 2019. I watched every game this year, as I did the last two years and it certainly looked to me that Hogan's skills are in decline. Speed is one thing but his lack of quickness is what really jumped out to me this year. A young receiver with speed and "quicks" is what this offense badly needs. Not only does this help Brady in the pass game, it will help in play action and it will pay big dividends in the running game too.

Yup, the writing is on the wall for hogan to be replaced by amendola for next year

Of course I can still appreciate the catches he made in the afc championship game. He definitely had a good run for us, it’s just run it’s course

According to Chatham Hogan was open a couple of times against the Rams most infamously on that forced throw to Gronk when facing 4th down.

Apparently Brady just never saw it. Which seems to be a theme of the year for Brady and Hogan. A lot of missed potential big plays.

The amount of times someone writes Amendola will replace Hogan is kinda confusing to me as both are not playing the same position. Dola is a bonafida slot receiver, Hogan is supposed to be a speed guy.

This is like when people wrote that Gilmore was replacing Logan Ryan last year. Made no sense.
