So as an “outsider” (Jags fan) looking in its rather easy to be enviable of the Patriots and their run of success. But all good things end, no?

This isn’t a thread to try and take pleasure or poke fun at the eventual end of the Brady era; but curious, what do you think happens with a Belichick once Brady leaves? Does he retire?

If he stays, does he patch with cheap veterans and squeeze every drop out of them like he does often with other positions? Does him and the FO go all in and tank for a first overall pick at QB like the Colts? Maybe draft new age QBs like Lamar Jackson in the later rounds and run creative new offenses on the cheap then move onto the next one?

I can’t help but think of the Dolphins having been mired in mediocrity since Marino leaving. How do you think the Pats avoid this?

I expect Belichick will stay on, not retire when Brady does, just to show he can be successful without TB12.

Not sure how he will approach building the team of the future, other than expecting he will as usual assemble a diverse set of flexible pieces and use them all far better than anyone else would have them perform,

I do think he’ll be trying to build for a long term future at QB, but he won’t overspend or mortgageeiyher present or future for anyone.

It's 3-4 years down the road, so I don't know what to tell you beyond that.

I can tell you that a lot of the problems in Miami have been because ownership there has been a **** show for decades.

BB has a pretty std strategy when he has a surprise shortfall in a position: 'throw everything (multiple draft/FA/UDFA) at the wall and see what sticks. '

Now with QB position, the league has made it too key. So i am sure BB will try to draft an heir. But if it looks like that heir is a Sanchize in TB's last year; he will hope out and get a solid FA QB and draft another qb too. He got to 11-5 with a backup before, so I could see it happening again with an avg FA or rookie or 2d/3d yr developmental.

Belichick won playoff games with the Browns and coached a Matt Cassel QBd team to 11-5. He'll figure it out. Neither he nor Kraft are tankers like the Colts.

The real question is what in the world compelled you to become a Jaguars fan? Doesn’t seem like something one would do voluntarily.

Funny.

I’ve been in Florida most of my life. My parents said I picked them as my favorite team when I was super young and never looked back.

I’m basically engaging in self torture at this point. Last year was our one good year for every ten lousy ones that we get. We always have the misfortune of meeting up with the Pats when we’re on a roll it’s seems

The Kraft Family has secretly agreed to indefinitely fund the storage and revitalization of Bill Belichick's cryogenically frozen body with the organization's goal to reunite Bill with the 27 time Super Bowl Champion Tom Brady who refuses to retire. During Coach Belichick's absence, the selfless Brady will assume interim head coach responsibilities until Bill thaws completely.

I think Belichick will retire in 3 years. I think he meant it when he said he wouldn’t coach in his 70’s. Like it or not McDaniels will become HC with Caserio the GM. Hopefully McDaniels will fully understand his role at this point, but the key to the continuity will be Caserio. And I think Caserio will take the cue from Belichick and hire his own Ernie Adams, if they haven’t done that already.

We will never see this kind of success again but they will still be successful because they have built a program that will continue after Belichick and Brady.

In the past he has said he has not wanted to coach into his 70s. He'll turn 70 in 3 years, which is about the same time Tom said he's quitting.

He said this once about 10 years ago. Beat guys and national guys have said again and again that he got refreshed when he got his sons onto the staff and they are expecting him to be here for quite a while. Hell he even said it himself at some point according to Curran that he hopes that all of this continues for a long time (see QuickSlants interview with the Krafts).

If health allows he will be here for another 5-7 years at least.

They had success with Cassel and love Hoyer. No reason to think they will move away from a QB that understands situations and is good at diagnosis and decision making.

I predict they will continue with a powerful run game to transition into the new era, especially if as we see now, defenses geared towards all out pass defense can be exploited and continue until base defenses come full circle again.

Caserio as GM, McKid as HC, Harrington as Adams. Same show, new faces. That will be the ultimate test of the new dynasty and Bills empire building.

You can't help where you are born and the team you grew up with.

I'm sure there are a number of fans in my generation (Gen X) who started following the NEP during the lows of the early 80s, the highs of the mid-80s, the lows again thru the early 90s till now who would have rather been die hard 49ers fans.

The Jags have good ownership and Coach Coughlin leading the org. You'll get there. Just need a QB.

Well BB may be getting for Patriots life after Brady.

While the rest of the league moves to light D's. BB is implementing a Heavy run D O. A great QB isn't as necessary in that sort of system. The rest of the league will figure it out
in a few years.

Why does everyone always assume this about a guy who never puts his ego first? He just deferred the biggest decision of the Super Bowl to Brady, who deferred to the kicker instead of his own offense or sneaking himself. Both these guys are the most ego-less superstars in professional sports. Maybe BB will coach longer than TB plays, but this idea that he is trying to prove he can win without Brady?

Belichick going to coach as long as he can until he feels it’s time to retire.
Brady is going to play as long as he can until he feels it’s time to retire.

They aren’t playing a game of chicken to outlast the other one. This just stems from an oft-repeated, but completely unfounded idea that one needs to win without the other, for legacy purposes. I mean, do you know how Vince Lombardi did before and after Bart Starr? Yeah neither does anyone else, nor do they care because it changes nothing about his legacy.

I've been a fan of Tom Coughlin's since his days at BC and I root for him whenever his teams aren't playing the Pats.

I'm not sure when Belichick will leave but once Brady leaves the party will be over. As great as Belichick is as a HC he won't have anywhere near the same success as he's had with Brady.

..... until Bill thaws completely.
Belichick will never “thaw completely”. That would be like a leopard changing its spots.

I wouldn't take the word of beat guys and national guys. All I know is Bill said in the past he didn't want to coach into his 70s. Maybe he change his mind, but I wouldn't trust the media to know his plans.
