Ranking all 6 Super Bowl wins

Based on my favourites and importance to the franchise.

1. SB 36 - following this team through all the lean years just dreaming that one day we could win. Nothing will beat seeing Vinatieri’s kick split the uprights.

2. SB 49 - Deflategate. Brady slicing up the best D of its generation in the 4th. The interception. Brady tieing Montana.

3. SB 51 - Greatest comeback ever cements Brady as the GOAT

4. SB 38 - great game with Brady leading the game winning drive

5. SB 53 - kinda like the cherry on top of a delicious piece of cake. A Belichick masterpiece

6. SB 39 - the game that made them a dynasty. We could only dream it would go on for another 15 years.

Lots of recency bias here. SB 53 was not exactly a blowout but we never trailed and it was our largest margin. The game was always in control.

A lot of people ranking SB 38 waaay too low. It was a bloody fantastic game with 4 or 5 lead shifts in an explosive 4th quarter. I guess it is already too long ago.

In terms of quality of game, I would rank:

1. SB 38
2. SB 49
3. SB 51
4. SB 36
5. SB 53
6. SB 39

While SB 51 had a dramatic finish it was a fairly sloppy game (pick 6 from Brady and multiple blunders from Atlanta to fail to close the game like the hold to get out of FG range).

All I know is LI is never being outdone ever.

I still watch it from time to time

LIii is up there as well because of what it reps.

No more smug steeler fans can say anything and next year when we take home 7. The conversation will be us tormenting them

Like others said the next one.

The previous ones, well they are all great but here goes.

1. 36 - Long time fan that didn't think they would ever win a SB. I mean the Sullivans were bad enough but then the Kiam debacle and Orthwein almost moving them to St. Louis. The first one was unreal.

2. 49 - I guess I'm vindictive... after the 2 weeks that dbag Goodell and the rest of the NFL put the team through and watching that ass clown have to hand the trophy over made this one oh so sweet. Plus I was there.

3. 51- I mean who comes back from 28-3 with 2:12 left in the 3rd? then OT to boot. Some great plays and drama. Just an unbelievable game.

4. 38 - Gritty team, survived some injuries. IMO, one of the most entertaining SB's to be played of the 53.

5. 53 - Just a gutsy performance by a team that persevered. IMHO one of the most mentally tough teams of this run.

6. 39 - I guess I'm penalizing this team by putting this one last because IMO this was the best team of all the winners. Solid veteran group some young standouts. I guess 6th only because of the high expectation and even though I was there.

36 for importance to the team and fans, no doubt.

49 and 38 were the best all around games to watch moment to moment. Both teams doing great things on both sides of the ball.

49 was the beat quality team vs. team matchup with the best villain team and coach. Carroll and the Seahawks were a real ENEMY.

51 was insane.

53 was the greatest coaching vs. coaching triumph in football history.

39 was just sort of there as an actual football game, but becoming a dynasty with 3 out of 4 was so historically important, and the playoff run that led to it was amazing.

Most enjoyable win-

1. vs Seahawks - deflategate revenge, first win after the awful losses in 2 past SBs, epic 4th quarter comeback, and the fact that I will never feel as happy as I did after that Malcolm int. Surreal moment.

2. vs Falcons - down 28-3. Will never see that again

3. vs Rams (2) - counted out. Proved everybody wrong.

4. vs Rams (1) - first Boston sports championship I experienced. So unexpected. I was just happy they made it to the SB.

5. vs Eagles - shut Fredie Mitchell and TO up.

6. vs Panthers - great win especially coming in the heels of the Grady Little debacle
I just wanted to say thanks for using the teams’ names instead of the game numbers.

They’re all great of course, but the first, Seattle and Atlanta stand out to me a bit more.

Super bowl 36/2001 - While the game wasn't exciting until the very end, it was similar to the '85 team in that we were this massive and unexpected underdog. We went from a 5-11 season to SB champs with our starter QB out for the majority of the season. And he lost his job. The expectation was little to none and the reward was awesome (Given the backdrop of 9/11, the break from tradition as they all charged out of the tunnel together and RK saying "We're all Patriots tonight") And seeing TB with his hands on his head barely believing he was standing up there as a champ.

Superbowl 49/2014 - given the backdrop of all the scandals that we as fans had to go through and the prior losses 2011/2007, it felt good to have the monkey off our back and start to turn the conversation around.

Super bowl 38/2003 - 2001 wasn't a fluke and you knew we were built for long term success and we had our guy and a stellar defense

Superbowl 51/2016 - Really the most pure fun and exhilaration as a fan. 28-3 - enough said

Super bowl 39/2004 - Three peat and I would say that this was my favorite team of all the BB/Brady years.

Superbowl 53/2018 - Just icing on the take. The one thing I appreciate most about this season is the way the whole team came together. I think of all the seasons, this group of individuals really define what a selfless team that competes for each other really can achieve. There's never been a more synergistic team than this year's Patriot team. While the 2004 team was probably the most talented, this one just felt like best and most likable group of people.

Are we ranking them as far as our favorites/most memorable? Or by best/most entertaining game?

Most memorable:

1) 2001
2) 2014
3) 2016
4) 2004
5) 2018
6) 2003

Best games:

1) 2003
2) 2014
3) 2016
4) 2001
5) 2018
6) 2004

I agree with your memorable list. Best games those top 3 shows just how spoiled we are having a "problem" like picking between them. I would probably flip 03 and 14 only because of who the opponent was and how it ended. That Seattle team was the defending champ and with all due respect to the 01 Rams the best team we've defeated in the run. I can't disagree with your ranking. It's really a matter of perspective or taste.

Back to memorable, when that kick went through the uprights in 01 I was so stunned I just that there and kept saying OMG they just won the F'ing Super Bowl. Being a fan since 76 it was so surreal. For fans born circa 1990 who would be old enough to remember the dynasty from the start the surreal part is when they finally aren't winning at this clip, which in turn is surreal for me. :p

1. SB51
2. SB49
3. SB53
4. SB36
5. SB38
6. SB39

The last three with my son were just that much more memorable for me, having a sidekick who cares as much as you just makes it more fun.

Exactly. Because of my wife and kids watching with me, my top is SB 49 by far. That ending was fairy tale and the game itself was great quality. In fact me and my son watched the Micd up version of that SB last night. Wow. Still gabe is chills.

1. 36
2. 51
3. 49
4. 38
5. 39
6. 53

I remember just wanting to get that 4th 1 and tie Montana, now we are looking at possibly getting a 4th 1 in this decade...

Wow that happened fast. My mind went "They got 5, not 4!" I forgot Steve Young.

So for everybody keeping track, Tom Brady is Montana plus two Steve Youngs, in San Francisco years.

I took some points off LI's "good game" rating because it was really just each team playing one amazing half and one terrible half. I wouldn't call any of these games "bad" though. 2001 lost ranking there because it was only really a game at the very end.

To everybody else:

53 was not exciting... except if you're excited by watching the other team smothered (much as Chi. smothered us in 85-86, but without the TD for our side.)

53 was not insanely heroic at the end... the door just pressed shut, slowly, inexorably.

53 was won before the final whistle, it was a matter of keeping the door shut, because "anything can happen," but they made sure it didn't.

53 was like winning the last game in the world series on an absolute pitching gem.

I dunno. I get why 53 is at or close to the bottom of every list... yes, shutting out the other guy is boring unless the offense is running up the score. I get that.

But I can't tell you great that game feels with every bozo with a microphone saying the Pats are over when, one day, Brady hangs em up.

This game is Brady getting us 13 points... or really, the running game + Brady... and whether we can win like that if need be.

Be afraid, NFL, be very afraid.

It’s like asking to rank which of your children you like best.

I love 49 the best. I’m not even completely sure why but I think Brady’s reaction shots were a big reason. It had been long enough and there were enough disappointments along the way that it felt almost like the first time. Difference was I was so much more invested in Brady as a person and in some of the players and coaches whereas in 36, he was still a fresh new face. To me that’s the best one. 36 and 51 are up there as well.

1. 36... The only one I was able to attend. No one thought they'd win. The Snow Bowl, Brady's hurt, the kick by Adam to seal it, Tebuckey's fumble return after the flag, Willie's subsequent sacks that took them out of FG range, Madden saying they should play for OT, Ty punching his ticket to Canton with a pick 6, and the sheer physicality of the D. u2.
2. 49... The best opponent. Brady leads the comeback, Malcolm, Pete's vapor lock, BB playing chicken... That crazy catch. Oh yeah, Malcolm too. Don't forget Malcolm. Did I mention Malcolm?
3. 51... Horrible game until 2:08 in the third. Tom Brady's finest moment. Jules' catch. Julio Jones. Gaga.
4. 38... slug-fest of a game. Might be the best game of the bunch.
5. 39... Best Pats team, Freddie What's-His-Face, Vrabes finds the endzone again, terrible clock management and McNabb dry heaving.
6. 53... Kinda forgettable. No real iconic moment, maybe the pick. Love the defensive effort.

I always rank 39 last. I barely remember anything that happened during the game except McNabb puking. It was my favorite playoff run though.

Are you Dave Brown from Twitter? Or did you copy his list? That guy is awesome and he just posted this exact list last night around 7pm. If not, funny timing!

It's hard for me to really give the first 3 their considerable due because i was much younger then (27 now), never really went through the struggle of watching the team be perennial losers, and was really just accustomed to them always winning. My first memory is the 96 super bowl against the packers.

With that in mind, i'd still go with this list:
1) SB 49. After all of the "haven't won since spygate" with the new made up framegate scandal lurking, this one was so sweet. I was also went out to Phoenix for the game (didn't get in bc of the price) and the city was overrun with loud-mouthed seahawks fans. It was such a pleasure going out that night running my mouth and celebrating a long-awaited 4th ring
2) SB 51. It's hard for me not to put this as #1 given I was at the game, but given the bs of spygate, deflategate, and the gap in winning, this one has to take 2nd. I will say it was the greatest night of my life, however.
3) SB 36. Even though i was really young i still remember my dad, who was a diehard pats fan, jumping for joy when they won. I never realized what big of underdogs they were until i got a bit older, but his reaction and celebration represented what all pats lifers felt i'm sure.
4) SB 53. This one separates Brady as the winningest NFL player of all time and ties the franchise with the most super bowl wins. That is absolutely insane. This game was also really entertaining, i don't care what anybody says. After the D let down Tom and the team last year, they sure earned their due this year.
5) SB 39. I despise the Eagles and this win made them a dynasty.
6) SB 38. I don't really have anything against the Panthers and although this one was probably the most entertaining game start to finish, i think it might be last on my list.

1 - XXXVIII 03
2 - XXXVI 01
3 - XXXIX 04
4 - LIII '18
5 - XLIX ' 14
6 - LI '16

They're all great in their own way. 2003 remains my favourite football season and Pats SB win. Miss the era when defenses could play football

1. 51: I have watched that 4th quarter + OT at least 20 times. TB12 master class.
2. 36: First one. Unexpected and the birth of a dynasty. The whole season was magical.
3. 49: Spectacular game. And MALCOLM GO!
4. 38: Fun fun, back and forth. First SB I watched in my OWN apartment and not at my parents. Friends, booze and a bunch of pissed off haters hahaha
5. 39: TO mouthing off then playing great. Pats in control pretty much all game long.
6. 53: Meh game. Great defensive performance. Glad we won, but felt anti-climatic at times. VERY happy we have tied the Steelers though. VERY happy that Brady put MORE separation between him and Montana.

Let's be honest, they all are super awesome.
