Why Patriots could win the next few Superbowls.

I’d say we had our share of injuries/misfortune this season.

Two big ones:
Isaiah Wynn
Jeremy Hill

One that hurt:
Josh Gordon

Minor:
Burkhead, Michel, Gronk, Edelman lost a few games each as well due to injury or suspension.

At one point we were down to James White as our only healthy back.

I think the biggest non injury compared to last year: Hightower. He was huge in the playoffs.

Hard to think Jeremy Hill was a big loss. He’s been a terrible player the past few years and likely would have been much worse than Michel.

The Patriots contrarian approach on offense could punch their ticket to more consecutive Superbowl appearances and heres why...

The NFL has become a spread em out passing league with many elements of the college game becoming part of the pro game.

This proliferation of passing offenses has forced most defenses to evolve into smaller but faster defenses. 255 lb+ linebackers like ted johnson, Brandon spikes, james farrior, larry foote are mostly considered obsolete and have been replaced with linebackers who are basically glorified strong safeties (230 - 245 lbs). Nose tackles like wilfork, casey hampton, ted washington have been replaced with smaller penetrating DT's.

I believe the Patriots noticed this league wide shift and decided to turn the clock back offensively by commiting to an old school hat on hat running game with heavy usage of the fullback. It is going to be incredibly difficult for teams designed to stop the modern day passing attack to stop the patriots approach. Once our guards and fullback get to the second level they will physically be able to dominate these lightweight linebackers. Sony michel aint lying when he gives all the praise to develin and the oline. all sony and the rbs have to do is make one guy miss to turn a good run into an exeptional run.

Heres why this is great news. Because it will take the league a few years through the draft to evolve enough to stop it. Also the college game would have to evolve to provide the kind of defenders needed and that could take a few years as well.

I think the Pats will continue to overwhelmingly invest in their strength. I wont be surprised to see them draft a powerback and a blocking tight end.

We just need a WR to replace hogan who poses more of a threat downfield on playaction.

Sounds right. It also chews clock on O, another good strategy for hampering the opponents high-flying pass offense and to exhaust the opposing D by end of game.

Well, they definitely have to win at least one more, so that the championship documentary that will eventually be made doesn't get confused with The Brady Six.

We really need to see the roster next Aug to get a better view on this. I think a nice sprucing up of the WR options is in order.

But clearly, having a run heavy attack when it suits the game at hand is a huge plus. You have to recognize that very low scoring games can easily turn on a single score as we all fidgeted through on Sunday.

Oline, RB and defense gets me warm and fuzzy though and come draft time Bill can be very creative.

And this revolutionary approach led to 13 points in the Super Bowl too!

I liked the SB Defense, not the SB Offense.

I am keeping my fingers crossed. The OP does not post here much, but it’s just not realistic to “win the next few super bowls.” I can see maybe 1 more in the Brady era.
why not? We have been in 4 out of the last 5? The AFC East is trash next year again and probably for a few more.

We have been in AFCCG 8 straight years winning 5? Amazingly your post is the one that sounds out of touch. (No offense)

We (as always) basically have a bye for 2019 to at least the 2 seed and the AFCCG.

The odds of us going to 5 super bowls in a row are against us (what the OP is suggesting when he says “a few more super bowls”). AFCE has always been trash. The reality is we don’t know what type of roster we have for 2019 as of now. If Gronk calls it quits, McCourty twins decide to leave on top, and Flowers leaves via free agency, it’s a lot of major holes to fill in one offseason. Oh, and there’s this pretty good team that plays in Kansas City...

Brady has always said how difficult it is get to the SB. I am hopeful but am not expecting it. This team owes me nothing.

Edelman is kinda important too[/QUOTE]

While Edelman did a nice job filling in at CB before I don't think he would have been the difference in allowing 41 verse 3 points on defense.

We have beaten them 4 straight games twice in playoffs, and once in AFCCG in their house. I think Pats will be successful being in their heads

We’ll see. I’m not saying we don’t have a shot to get back to the SB, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves...

This team owes me nothing.
the team has never owed you or me anything. But you should not expect it OK for them to suck for 20 years just because they gave us this dynasty. They have set a standard that I will always hope this organization strives for, even when they will come up short more times that not, as they current still do. (6 out of 18, means they failed 12 times. But it is unimaginable success and I hope they always compete. So no they definitely do not owe me or you anything but they never did.

I loved the Patriots for 26 years before they ever won a championship same with the Red Sox and Bruins too. I have loved all 4 my whole life because of my dad and brothers.

I guess the thing to me is I already hear talk of how THIS time was the last. WTH? (Not you, but there is some of that in the media, mixed with the Pats worship too.)

I think this year proved once and for all no one should predict they won't be in the mix any more until they aren't. They have been in the final 4 for 8 straight years.

right, so two more in a row pretty reasonable to believe.

Yeah, I don’t know. The mathematical odds seem against it. We’ll see. The league changes so much from year to year. An average team could pick up a few key free agents and have an amazing draft and then maybe threaten us. We don’t know.

I don’t expect them to suck at all. They’ll be in the thick of things.
