OTish: Mitchell racks up 10th surgery, still hopes to make it back to NFL

The definite potential for a solid career that injuries just would not allow to fruition.
Who knows, maybe he achieves what is seemingly very unlikely. But even if he doesn't succeed he'll always have that rare NFL rank of unlikely SB star. That's one damn exclusive club.

Too bad. The kid looked like he was going to be a fit but he was a hope and prayer at best with his knees. It’s good that he’s hopeful but deep down, doubt must be starting to creep in at this point.

Always thought he had a lot of determination. If there’s a chance one can come back from injury, he’ll find it. Malcolm GO

What kind of surgery, I wonder? Clowney came back after microfracture surgery which had previously been a desperation move.

Really thought this guy was going to be a solid contributor in the David Givens level of production - Givens always came up big in the biggest games. I had hoped Mitchell would be the guy to bust the Pats string of garbage WR picks...

Terrible draft pick.

The insurance company could have saved a ton of money by installing a zipper after operation number 3 or so.

I would love to see the kid make it all the way back. Know it is unlikely but he is a great kid.

There's certain players that it's just hard not to root for and you can see it echoed by the team. Mitchel and Gordon spring to the top of the list of players who it seems like the rest of the team has rallied behind.

Patriots have had some good guys with hard luck 1st/2d round (?were these all 1st draft picks?):

Robert Edwards
Marquise Hill
Malcolm Mitchell
??

Add those to all the lost firsts and it's a wonder.

His situation is rough, but draining his knee, arthroscopic surgery, which is nothing, might be counted to make a more dramatic article. Hope so anyway.

What was his original injury?

Wouldn't mind if he came back here. He was huge in the 4th quarter of the super bowl.

Mitchell was a 4th rounder.
