Trick plays.

The hilltopper at the end of regulation was cool. One that no one noticed is when Chung went back for the punt return but Julian was on the other side of the field with the fake fair catch. Impossibly difficult over the shoulder catch by Chung IIRC.

Of course the Brady toss....and that is the one that got him hurt in 2018 against Tenn so a big 0-2 on that one.
The Chung punt return is the greatest hidden Super Bowl play in history. If the Pats fell short that anonymous Falcon is the unsung hero. And 99% of people probably still don’t know it happened.

The Brady attempted reception is from the Philly Super Bowl.

I like the Faulk era fake bad snap/direct snap. It's a classic.
My concern would be that they may have gone to the well one too many times with that play. It’s served its purpose and then some, but there’s a decent chance that LA may be prepared for it.

Saw that in SB46. Would not recommend.

On that note, let’s not have any trick plays where we give up a safety on an “intentional grounding” that goes 30 yards in the middle of the field...
No need to throw to slater. His greatness is on special teams not offense.

McVay will change up the entire offense for this game. 2-weeks to prepare. He is the best coach in the game right now not named BB. Pats had better be ready for anything.

I think that would be a mistake with his young QB so I hope you are right.

This is the last game of the season and it’s for all the marbles. I expect Sean McVay to have some tricks up his sleeve just like Doug Pederson did last year. I don’t feel like we prepared for that well last year. As long as your secondary doesn’t bite on the eye candy and stays in position, foles doesn’t score there. Remember McVay tried a fake punt in the nfccg and it worked. Also, if we try a trick play, can we please not try to throw one to TB? That was painful seeing him try and make a catch.

the only reason the trick punt worked is because the outside defender turned his back and he was the only one out there.....the defender really misplayed that...either you make contact and then turn and run or you keep the gunner in front of you

Forget about last year. Butler not playing was the huge problem in dealing with the Eagles, not trick plays. I trust that BB and the players learned some painful lessons from that debacle. Feeling good about the Pats and their ability to deal with whatever gets thrown their way this year.

I re watched those highlights and it was Eric Rowe who got burned on a lot of those plays. Rowe gave up the td to Jeffrey and I think that TD to Ertz. He just fell down. Would it have been different with Butler out there? Who knows? We will never know.

Agreed, but benching Butler affected everybody's play, IMO, not just the "not ready for prime time" guys who replaced him. I'm glad we'll have a new game to talk about next Sunday night.

Not technically a trick play, but I don’t want to see the “fake to RB, fake to end around, screen to RB” play. It has a bad playoff history.
it was the first play of 2017 SB. Brady got sacked.

It’s takes too long to develop. With the athletes on their pass rush, won’t have enough time to run it.
it showed we had the wrong game plan. As dominating as the 2007 O, it was too one dimentional.

What are the chances the Rams pull out the Philly Special on the Pats? Why do I have a feeling? Ugh......

I think the TD to Ertz was on McCourty.

Brady got hit but not sacked, and it was incomplete.

It also led to the early INT in the 2010-11 Jets loss.

No more play-calls involving Brady running patterns please.

Nothing involving Slater on offense either.

I still wouldn't mind seeing Edelman throw another pass, however.

I like to think of trick plays, gadget plays, or misdirection plays.. as just PLAYS.

ALL PLAYS have to be practiced and blocked correctly. Trick means you surprise the defense or special teams. Surprise is a good ingredient in any play.

The difference with so called trick or gadget plays is it takes balls to call them and recognize the correct situation. I think a good offense should call 3or 4 per game maybe more. Even if it goes incomplete you serve a purpose... if it causes safeties to step back
