Cole Beasley calls out Cowboys front office

Assuming he sees the error of his ways?
What error? He's got 2 rings, another franchise offered a huge pay raise and Dola decided to cash in. No "error" there. And as far as I'm concerned, no bad blood. It was time to go get his, he earned it, let him enjoy it.

If he decides he'd rather finish out his career playing relatively cheap but competing for the Superbowl every year, he'll come back at the price BB sets. If not, I wish him all the joy of his financial reward for helping us in 14 and 16 and the "veteran cred" other franchises crave and will overpay for. I'm sure that catch on the 2 point conversion in SB51 added a few million to his future earnings, and God bless him for it.

No defending NFCE champ has repeated the following year since '05. It's been the same story every year for these teams (rash of FA departures, rash of injuries, suspensions, locker room troubles, etc). Dallas isn't going anywhere next year.

I find the idea of the front office dictating this in football to be very odd.

Bill, I want you to give #__ 32% of the offensive snaps this year

Sincerely,
Bob Kraft

Bob, all the way up with a red hot poker

Sincerely,
Bill Belichick
Here, sure. I wouldn't put anything past micro-managing Jerry Jones. As Mr Spock says, only a theory to fit the facts.

He's walking it back.

Today, Beasley went back to Twitter and said his comments had been misconstrued.

“Some are misunderstanding my point,” Beasley tweeted. “EVERY team’s gameplan in pro sports is dictated by the front office. Big free agent additions, high draft picks, etc are going to get the most opps. And I’m not mad at that! Lol I just want to help my team win. All good players want the rock.”

Beasley becomes a free agent in March, and it seems likely that he’ll go elsewhere. His “clarification” today may have been an attempt to convince other teams that he’s not a diva wide receiver.

Cole Beasley backtracks on comments about Cowboys’ front office

Seems a bit cowardly, but I expect either he or his agent thought it best not to burn that bridge too much.

Jerry Jones was the smartest guy in the room when the Cowboys has an all-pro team in the 90s and won 3 SBs.

In the cap era, he still thinks he’s the smartest guy in the room. The micromanaging is so embarrassing and stupid. This guy is a buffoon who likely would have another ring or two if he just shut up.

Sign the beast

Just to elaborate on this point a bit:

Danny Amendola 5’11” 190 lbs.
Julian Edelman 5’10” 198 lbs.
Cole Beasley 5’8” 180 lbs.

(according to pro football reference)

Just not sure that Beasley would be able to take the physical toll that the specific position requires in terms of being both a human pinball and an excellent downfield blocker.

There have been others who are small but I think they’ve played a bit of a different role. Taking it one step further, I don’t think anyone has been under 5’9 or 190 lbs.

Troy Brown 5’10” 196 lbs.
Phillip Dorsett 5’10” 192 lbs.
Deion Branch 5’9 193 lbs.

Sup, you forgot the guy who has caught the most passes in team history. I don't think Wes is taller than 5-8.

One On One, underrated imho.

I like Beasley but the fact that he plays for Dallas is the only reason I know who he is. If he was like, a Bear or Raven he’d be journeyman or out of the league. I’d pay him a little to come to camp and prove it with a real team, but I’d say 50/50 he makes the roster. Amendola was considered “disappointing” by some measures in NE I would expect Beasley’s max production to be significantly south of that.

How could I forget Wes? Good catch.

The site that I used (pro football reference) has him at 5’9” and 190 lbs. Just for the heck of it, I looked up Braxton Berrios, too, and he’s coming up with the exact same measurements.

Hunter Renfro please and thank you

7 years in the league, average of about 2.2 million gross per year, turning that NFL old age of 30, quite short for the NFL. This is likely his last shot at a multi year contract in the 8 figure category. It's quite possible (though I'm totally guessing) his agent told him a 10 figure multi year with solid guarantees for a short 30 year old with his 2018 numbers/ranking will not make for a sellers market.

Nothing wrong with a player that is closer to the end of his career looking to maximize his earnings. Yet I'd strongly advise him to give a solid discount in order to sign with a perennial SB team :)
