Post Game Thread- Pats beat the Chargers

Develin had a helluva game blocking and picking up short yardage when they put him on the field.

I'm glad that McDaniels stuck with Michel for most of the carries in the game. By far, the best usage of Michel to date.

Would love to see Dorsett get more targets. He reminds me a lot of David Givens, though he's not the blocker that Givens was. Dorsett just seems to catch the ball when it's thrown to him.

The one guy who seemed to have an off-game was Dwayne Allen. He missed a couple of blocks later in the game that allowed Michel to get hit early.

When I saw that play, and both Jules' reaction and the Chargers' reaction to it, it instantly reminded me of Tedy Bruschi stripping Edgerrin James in the 2004 Divisional. I knew right then that the Patriots wanted this more and knew what it took to actually win it.

I was waiting for Edelman to interrupt Brady's TV interview after the game and say, "We play! That's what we do. We don't talk. We play. You come to Foxborough, it's gonna be snowing. It's gonna be cold. C'mon in here! You wanna say all you want? You wanna change the rules? Change 'em! We still play. And we win. That's what we do."

Great moment!
It was actually Dominic Rhodes, not Edge James who got the ball ripped away.

I sort of view this Pats run like the Packers in 1967. A very veteran team with players approaching the end. A very proud and determined team. Not necessarily the best team. But one that emptied their tank for one last run. Who knows who will be back. But this seems like the last hurrah for some key pieces.

Amazing game by the Pats. Really proved all those ****tards in the media wrong. Just thinking about stupid Kellermann saying his typical bs about Brady makes my blood boil .. anyhow, I didn’t expect them to come out THIS sharp. Just fantastic execution on both offense and defense. Honestly, if you pick against Brady and Belichick when the game is at Gillette and in January, you should be checked in to a mental facility ...

That being said, I think the Chiefs should be favored next week. Can’t stand them and that new poster child Mahomes with his side arm throws that make Collinsworth jizz into his pants every time, but that offense is explosive as hell. We’ve struggled mightily on the road this year, and Arrowhead is a very uncomfortable place to play at. We also don’t tend to make it to SBs when we have to go on the road to do so, so that doesn’t help either. Regardless, I m so freakin proud of this team already. This isn’t the most talented Pats team we’ve seen by any means, yet they spanked a really good Chargers team today. Just a privilege to support this team, honestly.

Outside of Gronk, who are these key veteran pieces who will potentially be gone?

It's actually their 8th straight. @TB_Helmet is correct. They lost in the Divisional round during the 2010 season.

2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018.

(hint: just count the last digit of each year ;) )
Which means it was 9 years ago when they last lost (since they won the past 8 years - 2019-2010 = 9)

Gostkowski, Allen, Simon (who had a good game), McClellan, Malcolm Brown

Goskowski and Allen are, by far, the best players available at their positions in free agency.

I think Hightower could go. Possibly McCourty, Slater. And I am not convinced that if he wins his 6th that Brady stays. And I realize what he has said publicly. Maybe they all stay - but time is catching up with them quickly.

It's certainly possible that one or more of the Hightower, McCourty and Slater trio go, though I would be surprised if they were to all go this year. But Brady's not going anywhere.

Oh.. the one QUALM I had during the game was in the 2nd half when, for some inexplicable reason, the Pats moved JMac to cover Keenan Allen. Other than the 1 miscue on the 1st series, Gilmore had shut Allen down. So, why switch things up. Allen burned them and landed at the 1/2 yard line.

Side note: Coulda sworn that Allen had more than 2 catches, but that's what NFL.com says currently..

Why do you think Slater would go?
I understand Hightower and McCourty because of their salaries, but Slater is relatively inexpensive for such a big team character guy.

Slater has been there a long time. If he becomes a 3 time SB champ .... do you want to keep doing it? I don’t think the Pats would force him out, I just wonder if he would go. Some players play until their bodies are broken and they can’t and some go before that.

It's crazy to think i may have very well just attended Gronks last home game ever. Would suck but that's what it looks like. Hey at least I was there for his very first..and last game at Gillette

I found this comparison tidbit to be amusing:

28. Rivers’s touchdown pass to Allen was the 12th of his postseason career, tying Dan Fouts for the most in Chargers history.

29. In case you wondering, and even if you weren’t, Brady’s 12th playoff touchdown pass came on an 11-yard pass to Troy Brown in a wild-card round victory over the Jaguars on Jan. 7, 2006.

Satisfied? Patriots emphatically answer the skeptics | Boston.com

let's face it, as we've been told by our chicken little scumbag fans here all season, Andrew Luck is a far better QB than Brady and the Colts are way way better than the Pats. We will, however, get one of THESE next week to even thing sup a bit, even though the scumbag loser CL's will probably disagree...

LMAO @ all the grumbling about Brady's decline including many on this forum. That throw over the middle to Edelman...he zipped that ball perfectly. The man still has it.
