Nice article on Curtis Martin and life after football..

She doesn't like his attitude and his hair. She knows I have a thing for Lisa Bonet. We discussed it.

She has the hots for Captain America and Jake Owen.

Ummmmmm, who, like, doesn't have the hots for Captain America?

I remember a rumor that one of the reasons he felt compelled to take that big contract with nyj is because he was still with her at the time and she was going through financial issues. I was still a kid then so bought into it and hated toni braxton for a while
Yea shes had a couple of bankruptcy issues.

He was dating some glam model from the UK for a while. I forget her name but she was quite attractive.

Yup, spoken like a true married guy....
Damn straight. I only bring out the big guns like romance and the art of seduction once every other year.

Yeah a great guy and fabulous chess player. Don't take this the wrong way, but he was one of the first NFL "Metrosexuals". I mean this in a good way. He was not some dumb jock, not by any measure.

The Pats were d***ing around and low balled him before he was a free agent as @fnordcircle said.

I've also heard the rumor that had the Pats signed Martin to more money, they wouldn't have been able to keep some of the guys on D like Law, Milloy and McGinest to name a few.
Pats had serious cap problems back then

I wonder if BB took over the team in 1997 what he would have done with those big deals. Christ they even shelled out big money to Todd Rucci and Max Lane.

Those contracts to Rucci and Lane were brutal.

Edit: It was Lucy Pinder. Y'all can go Google her at your leisure

Proof that Notorious Bobby Idiot Grier and Waczynchuk had no idea what they were doing.

Wow, I had completely forgotten the name Andy Waczydnsdfjsd;dlkfj;.

Grier had a great draft in 96. 98 wasn't terrible, just made worse by what happened to Edwards. 99 wasn't terrible either. But I think 97 is the worst draft this team ever had, when you factor in everything. One part time starter in Brandon Mitchell and that's it. Canty, Denson, Rehberg, Ellis, ugh.

Not too long ago he was dating Jenny Slate, which was doomed from the beginning. It must be on tough on your ego constantly reading that you're not good enough for another person. The comments she was getting were absolutely brutal. Anyone not familiar with this, people were criticizing him for dating her because she wasn't "pretty enough". It's no surprise it didn't last long.

I would guess I am lucky my wife does not have a clue as to who Jason Momoa is..

Plus his mgt of the FA process was brutal. Terry Allen? Zefross Moss? Henry Thomas?

That's cruel. No need.

Why would you feel any loyalty to a company that was trying to lowball you?

IIRC Martin's offer was like 2-3m a year for 6 years. Which is like, not that much more than Parcells gave to Dave Meggett like 3 years earlier.

I swear some of you seem to be completely unable to grasp that this is a business when it's the player making a choice that hurts the team.

I've just come to the conclusion Triumph works for minimum wage while everyone around him makss four times as much and he constantly barks "disloyal rats!" at them for taking the company's money.

You talk out of both sides of your mouth.

Its no different that how BB runs the team. BB has routinely lets RFA like Martin leave to bring back another teams deal to match if they choose. Do you understand what a RFA is? The team controls the rights to said player. The same with the franchise tag and Bell. The Steelers own the rights to Bell and he can do nothing without their consent. UFA are free to go and Martin was not a UFA.

You cant have it both ways - Bad treatment of Curtis, but good work by Belichick getting a bargain on that contract. Martin not only brought back another deal, but with a clause that would have busted the Pats salary cap making it impossible to sign him. Parcells convinced Martin to play for him and screw the Pats.

Because a poison pill in the contract that Parcells put in. He knew what would happen if the Pats signed it.

Martin was the messenger for Parcells. A guy who has tried to screw the Pats every which way since he walked out on the team at the end of Super Bowl 31.

Actually I can have it both ways.

I can be glad when the team gets a player to sign a bargain contract but I can also understand when a player views a bargain/rip-off contract as a slap in the face.

Because I'm just a fan.
